The "Whispering Jack" album and pretty much most of his stuff, is fantastic for driving to. 1987 I was moving up country - a process that took a few months to complete so did a lot of 2 hour drives and this CD was my road-trip music! 'Let Me Out', 'Pressure Down', 'One Step Away', 'Reasons', 'No One Comes Close', 'Going Going Gone', all smashing good songs! ~ love from "John's Red-in-💙" CHOOKAS! 😎
Brett Garsed is such a great guitarist and long standing member of John’s band and one of the best guitarists I’ve heard, highly underrated or just not very well known. Awesome performance all round.
Another great reaction Charlie, thank you. :) Yep, Brett Garsed was part of John's band for a long time. Working with John was his first break - he had sent demo tapes into record companies, and it led to an audition for a small tour with John, he then worked on Whispering Jack which was John's comeback album in 1986 - this is the 1987 tour for that album. Interestingly, he was also a plumber like John before starting his career in music. I love this tour partially because this is John taking his hit album and running with it after years and years being ignored. It must have been a special tour for him, doing sold out shows in big venues. We know that he only went from strength to strength for the rest of his career, but at this point, he had no way of knowing that. He'd already had the fame and adulation when he was younger, and then lost it, so he knew it could disappear at any time. My understanding is that John wrote this song when he was with the Little River Band. Whilst he credits his time there with making him 'grow up' about his career, there was definitely conflict, hence this song. And bonus points to John for getting a mention of Marcel Marceau into his lyrics - clearly a man of culture!
John has openly admitted to suffering from depression (possibly Major Depression…not sure) and this song ‘Let Me Out’ suggests it was written by John as a musical and lyrical portrayal of how he felt/feels when depressed. John and his wife Jill, discuss Johns’ depression in the documentary ‘John Farnham - Finding the Voice’ - Depression is at a minimum, a dehumanizing illness to say the least, and as someone who suffers from Major Depression, I can relate to how John had/has to deal with this difficult illness. Music, lyrics, family and close friends, combined with an incredible voice that is becoming increasingly admired globally, has undoubtedly helped John through ‘The Black Dog’ periods of depression. The passing of Glenn Wheatley, his best mate and manager hit John hard, and then cancer stepped into the worst possible part of a singer's body - the mouth! Setting depression aside for a moment in order to wish John Godspeed in his recovery, because the increasing number of global fans hope and pray for John to sing as good or better than ever, and we hope ‘The Black Dog’ of depression remains distant from Johns’ journey to full recovery. Best wishes to Jill, Robert, James & the many friends who unconditionally love and support John as he sings his way to a full recovery. May the pressure stay down and you are lifted up by Angels to receive whatever help you require to regain the voice and make it loud and make it clear, again!🙏👍🇦🇺❤️
One of my favourite songs from Whispering jack❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰 Brett garsett is amazing!!! One of the best guitarist in Australia & he's been in john's band since 1984 by memory.. Hes actually in john's documentary, I won't spoil it for you but yeah he's been with John for a long time..
Another great reaction to the great John Farnham. Everyone in John’s band are epic, Brett Garsed on guitar, they are all the best of the best at what they do and John, a vocal God, John’s belting range is endless, those notes he hits are so high.
John's go to band was Angus 'the mongrel' Burchall drums, Brett 'Rambo' Garsed lead guitar, Wayne Nelson bass guitar, David Hirschfelder pianist, Lindsay Field BV & acoustic guitar, Venetta Fields BV, Lisa Edwards BV and then other musicians when playing live.
Brett Garsed. He was playing the guitar in the MSO concert (remember the guitar and violins answering each other?). He was also playing for his duet with Lisa Edwards. He was still playing with him 30 years later.
The last time the stylist put him in a silk shirt under those lights.... I thought he was going to melt into a puddle by song three.... This concert was amazing... John as usual was just his perfect self... Thanks Charlie !
Still dumbfounded me why john Farnham was responsible for the LRB debts accrued before he joined the band. It left him penniless. Watching the documentary Finding The Voice doesn't explain why John had to share a band debt accrued before he joined. They definitely took advantage of his generosity and kindness. His very first manager used him. Heartbreaking. Thank God Glenn Wheatley mortgaged his home for the release of whispering jack album 🤦 and then radio stations wouldn't play john Farnham. Crazy times
Thats the thing about Johns songs. They are so diverse that there are little gems that just hit you in your feels, and you never know when you'll come across one of those. He has such a huge catalogue of music, there's something for everyone. I keep finding new songs to love all the time, and I love it. ❤
My favourite song!!!! He never sings it at concerts either. So good! We need to all get together and produce a Farnham Festival!!! To bring all of us together to relive all of this
Heya really appreciate your reaction to our wonderful John Farnham ,Jimmy Barnes and all unappreciated Australian artists. Saw recently on your channel your wonderful surprise from John and his thanks to you getting his music out. There is two only channels I see a lot of Aussies follow….yours and That Singer Reaction ….you are both extremely good at your craft and very entertaining for different reasons. I was wondering if through your connections you could suggest to the people connected with John that perhaps they show him Nicks ( That Singer Reaction) channel as well as at the moment he can probably do with all the moral support he can during recovery. You seem like you have a very positive and decent personality and love your accent . Know this is a big ask but this 69 yr old grandma would have no idea how to suggest this myself to the people who support John. Thank you in advance if this is something you feel you would be prepared to do. Kindest regards Londa
At just 40 yrs old i have grown my whole life hearing farnsy , all his songs are just a natural built in part of my mind .even when not hearing for sometime as soon as a song starts i know it .just awesome talent
This is one of my fave songs of his and I saw him do it live at a concert a few months after this was recorded and it was mind blowing! Bret Garsted is the guitarist and was with his band for years! They played this concert on tv and simulcast it over the local FM radio and I recorded it onto a tape and played it to death... and then when they released it on VHS.. I played that to death too!!!! This song is about frustration and coming to the end of your rope and saying ok..that's it and I've had enough and I'm letting loose. You can hear the frustration in his voice and the music and its just faaaaaantastic!!!
Charlie, THANK YOU for playing this song. How have I not heard it before? - or at least, not remember hearing it? I'm also constantly surprised to hear how many of John's repertoire he's written himself. I love your Reactions. And your puppy dog eyes. 🐶😊
Great reaction Charlie Let Me Out is written about John’s time within the Little River Band from 1982 to 1986 . The song be directed at LRB’s founding member Graham Goble who has downplayed the John’s situation with the band . Members of LRB stuck down John’s microphone lead from 30 metres to 3 meters so he couldn’t move around on the stage , some LRB members believed that John was upstaging the rest of the band , plus LRB was in the red financially and only members that wrote songs got paid through royalties . John being only a casual songwriter only had few songs that he wrote himself published Playing To Win 1984 and Blind Eyes 1985 most of all the other songs was Graham Goble written songs . So John didn’t get a single pay cheque while in LRB leaving him broke . Let Me Out definitely about John’s frustration around that time .
I thought Playing To Win was his time with LRB. never knew that this was about that too but when you listen to the words it so fits he’s time with them. 😊
Well I didn't know that he did not get paid for singing his heart out, thanks for that piece of info. Life isn't fair at times I know that but not to pay one of the greatest performers there ever will be, not right at all. I've heard John say in interviews that he made stupid decisions in his younger singing days so I guess that didn't help. But, man am I pleased his whispering jack album took off, he's loved over here in NZ just as much as he is in Aussie. Also for them to shorten the mic cord for an icon like John was just a down right scummy thing to do. We all know he loves to interact with the crowd that's how the legend shows his appreciation to his fans. Just one question if you don't mind, while John was with LRB did they get into the American music charts at all?
Did you see Graeham's recent comment that he was surprised to be asked about the taping down the mike story when he was interviewed for the documentary? I was surprised that he was surprised lol. That incident was just so symbolic of the problems they were having from both sides (which doesn't justify it at all, it was a very disrespectful thing to do). It's really sad because GG wrote some incredible songs for John and he sang the pants off them.
@@aussiekat6379 playing to win was his last hurrah with LRB just before leaving. He wrote it to say I'm out of here and this time I'm playing to win. By the time LRB band members got their mitts on it they took 49% of it away from him.
@@brendonburgin5250he had to work as a session singer outside of the band to support himself. Which is when he did all those movie soundtracks and theme songs
I'm always up for a John Farnham reaction from Charlie, I think we have to call him an honourary Aussie. I have to say, I don't think I have heard this song before, it's a shame because it's a belter.
Great reaction Charlie. John co_wrote this song about his time in the Little River Band. They shortened his microphone lead & taped it down so he couldn't move around on stage. Very frustrating for John as he always uses the entire stage. Love from Australia. ❤
So cruel that the only thing he got from LRB was their debt. It sickens me that Graeham Goble earns from John Farnham videos on RU-vid. Loved the analogy of someone banging on a vessel Charlie...brilliant.
Yeah, he wrote this about Little River Band. The a'holes apparently treated him disgustingly, like leashing his mic so that he couldn't move properly to perform. They basically didn't like him showing them up. He was FAAR too talented to front a band containing such a'holes. And far too nice a guy to have to put up with juveniles like those people.
Hi I’ve just subscribed to your channel and I’m hooked!! I had so much to do today but I can’t stop watching. John Farnham is HUGE over here. Your reactions to his voice are priceless haha 😂❤
I recommend making a reaction to one of the coolest female vocalists in the world. Diana Ankudinova - Queen of Goosebumps - Diana received such a title for her extraordinary unique voice. Diana's best performances - Derniere Danse, Wicked Game, Can't Help Falling in Love, California Dreamin', Sweet Dreams, Human Each of these speeches garnered over a thousand reactions. Diana is in the TOP 3 world vocalists in terms of the number of reactions (about 17 thousand reactions).
The coolest performance that will shock you and give you the biggest goosebumps! ru-vid.com/group/PLQJJG9TMmSOB4YXRUgdxA-H-Fo_sjB3kZ Protection of the video-image about partial blocking for some countries is preferable.
There is so many song, it takes awhile to get around to all of them; and that is just from his time with Little River Band to now, there is also the time before that from when he was Johnny. Great son, great critique.
Firs time responder on this channel, and your love for John is as much as ours in Oz. The clip I’m about to share is from 2018, at Celine Dion’s concert in Melbourne. His voice is as strong then as it was in 1987. Gosh, I hope he can sing again soon, now he’s cancer free. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UxWdqk1Suac.html
John Farnham says the guitarist's name before his solo. It's Brett Garsed. He is a regular feature in John Farnham's band. He also spent time in America - not sure who he played with there. Brett started with John with Whispering Jack.
After John left Little River Band......Graham Goble missed having a tenor like John to sing his songs. When it came time for Graham Goble to do some solo records.....he hired a very Farnham-like tenor named STEVE WADE. Search Graham Goble - Steve Wade and have a listen....Steve Wade is a BRILLIANT singer very similar to John.
Gteat reaction Charlie. This was John's reaction to his time with Little River Band. They used him up and spat him out and left him in debt. The disrespect they had for him is ridiculous. Why ask a man with a voice and presence like that, to stand in one place and not stand out. You have this great voice ..but don't use it cos we are the LRB and we don't want you to stand out more than us.
Hey Charlie, just to let you know that Rob Farnham and Gaynor Wheatley gave an update on John's health and progress today 24/7/2023. The video is from the 7 Network morning show Sunrise and you just have to search for it on RU-vid if you wish to catch up on the news. Cheers!!!
I'm telling ya Whispering Jack is all killer no filler!!!!!!!! I really have a renewed appreciation for this album over the last few months. That was such a great comment about the percussive elements in the song, what a clever arrangement and I hadn't appreciated that connection before. There's some great inteviews with Brett Garsed on youtube where he talks about his work with John and the development of his playing style, they're really interesting for anyone who wants to nerd out.
I have been binge watching your reactions to John Farnham - the legend! Check out this 2019 fundraising concert to see him still belting out the big ones at 70 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ilAyoo2wOT4.html
This is one of my favourites although I love everything on the Whispering Jack album because that's my favourite album!! lol 💗💗💗 Brilliant musicians and together with the background vocalists just give me goosebumps. The guitarist who knocked us out with his solo is Brett Garsed (aka Rambo), picked up a guitar at age 12 and taught himself after hearing Deep Purple's 'Speed King'. Love your reactions Charlie, (John Farnham, Guy Sebastian, Jimmy Barnes, Olivia Newton John, Vanessa Amorosi...) Have you checked out Jessica Mauboy yet?? I only recently discovered you and had to subscribe🥰🇦🇺
Another one with a stellar guitar solo is We’re No Angels from the Classic Jack Live DVD. It’s on You Tube and runs about 7min. Sometimes the solo is separated off. But stunning vocals from John as well.
