John Foxx's "Metamatic" is one of the greatest electronic albums ever recorded. Just love the minimalist analogue synthesizers and metal beat drum machines. Even the b-sides of the singles, "Film one", "This city", "Glimmer" and "Mr No" would've made a brilliant "third side". Best four quid I ever spent.

A massive John Foxx fan here. So good to see you giving him some rightful praise. I discovered Ultravox when they released the Vienna single and that led me on a journey of discovery. Early Ultravox (Systems Of Romance blew me away), John Foxx's solo work, Visage etc. Although Metamatic is seen as his classic album I really like the Garden. It is a throwback to Systems Of Romance but full of brilliant tracks. The interplay between Robins Simon's guitar and the synth on Walk Away gets me every time. Also worth checking out the two standalone singles Burning Car and Miles Away released in 1980. For someone new to John Foxx's work these two albums are essential. 1983's The Golden Section is very good. Not a million miles from The Garden but with touches of psychedelia. 1985's In Mysterious Ways is all over the place. So many different styles recorded over different phases and not everything works for me. John has continued to release many great albums right through to the present as you say. His ambient work is also excellent. There's so much to wade through for newbies.

Fellas this is another great one. Metamatic is a fantastic album that stands up today. I am a 1st generation Ultravox! fan. Vienna is a good album but Midge is a bit marmite for me. However, back to Metamatic. So many outstanding tracks. I never gelled with The Garden but have just ordered a copy after hearing the samples. Very Systems of Romance as you say. Good work fellas 😎👍

Hi mark and Andy nice one guys great video as always. John Foxx is one of my favourite artists of all time I love metamatic I bought this album back in the day 1980 loved this album then and still loving it today and the garden fantastic work. Your last video with EMT was awesome as well I have heard the new album it is so good I’ve ordered it Emma’s.vocals are brilliant emt remind of euyrithmics and Claudia b I’m also a huge dubstar fan please get Sarah Blackwood on your show that would be awesome. The best electronic albums that you guys have recommended this year I have been buying new albums thank you for making my ears happy this show is the best you guys are my internet buddies 👍💿🎧🎶🎵🎹🤘🥃

I listened to Metamatic every day during 80-81 on a kct I made from my vinyl. There was quite a bit of sound leakage from the walkman headphones and I would get all sorts of looks when Metal Beat was playing. It's among my favorite albums.

@@electroniccafemusic Shifting City from 97 is worth mention, it's his comeback record in collaboration with producer Louis Gordon. The songs are very similar in style to the Metamatic project yet the production is vamped up to the technology of the time. I believe it's an essential item if you dig Metamatic. Good work EC.

Two very different great albums. As someone else has pointed out that even the 'B' sides were quality. Burning Car & Miles Away were also great songs not released on either album. Great stuff :)

John Foxx does not get the credit he deserves, "Metamatic" still sounds cold and clinical today, there hasn't been an album released since, that is like it and it still sounds futuristic today, some 40 years or so later.. Mark Reeder did a brilliant remix of "Underpass". He doesn't like the album "In Mysterious Ways" but for me that is one of his best albums. I must say "Howl" is an awful album, I just cannot listen to it.
