tambem, estive fingindo no show do rock am ring, tocando tiny dance e os maiores hits, é um momento incrivel que só quem admira de verdade nao ver o tempo passar.
So you know what feels like playing slane castle along, Its what i most like to do, recently learned Venice Queen and i'm loving play that, Sorry bad english hugs from Brazil
John seems like such a warm, down to earth man. I would love to sit down and have a conversation with him, about nothing in particular, and listen him laugh.. He's a musical genius without being egotistical about his talent.
Shadows Collide With People is one of my favorite albums of all time. I’m always surprised that it wasn’t more popular. Also, Murderers has been my ringtone for at least a decade. I love this guy. Such an influence on my guitar playing.
Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever heard John sound so animated and joyful in any interview before. Maybe the fact that this isn’t an interview is why? He sounds really happy. I love this.
I noticed how much he mentioned pushing into the absolute limits of the guitar, as per a lot of the prog players. Making noises with the guitar that have nothing to do with the guitar, a new approach to the instrument. I like that. I think thats where his head is at for the album right now. Im excited
John I'm so glad you're back with RHCP, I loved your experimental/side projects too. Just know that you are loved by so many and are an inspiration for aspiring musicians around the world.
Yes but jimi is realy the real number 1. I love John and ik think John is the best ever second. When there had been no jimi Hendrik John Nederland picked update a guitar
While listening to this i kinda zoned out and noticed how Johns voice really is similar to Flea's voice. I wouldnt know how to accurately describe but they both have this pinched tone in their voices while sounding very clear I love it :)

John, you are such an inspiration in so many ways. You are loved by all, who's lives are richer because of your contribution to the World. You've more than answered the question we ask ourselves, what are we here for? Your's is a real tangible contribution with purpose, to those who fight their Demons, your handling of your own personal battles bring hope to many that people can come back from the edge.
Best part about John for shante is that he takes the lesser and makes it more and for me as a guitarist that has never really done anything great and also play many instruments it makes me feel absolutely satisfied with the minimalism that I'm creating. Everyday
Nick: Damn right you should take pride and be proud of anything where you do something that brings you joy or some sense of achievement. I played Clarinet and Sax when young through the grade system right to grade 9 by which point I just stopped, was sick of the whole thing. I was 16 when I just abandoned them. Last summer, bored to death working very little and from home, Ibought a second hand guitar in a charity shop (I was searching for vintage vinyl.) I just played around with it and recorded a few of my very poor renditions of songs I just felt out not knowing or ever having held a guitar before. (I'm in my 40s) I mean, I sounded awful......but the satisfaction from just feeling my way and sort of managing a (shite) but recognisable song ........The joy was something else, seriously. Way outstripped any feeling despite a fairly accomplished Clarinet and Saxaphonist I once was when rather young - because I chose to give the guitar try. The early achievement was under duress of a music teacher who convinced my parents I was "musical" whatever the fuck that meant??? and suggested I took up Clarinet (leading to Sax soon after.) Anyway, my pal broke the guitar around Christmas time; and really, I'm not likely to buy another. It's not my skill or passion; that's something away from music. Doesn't make my experience any less joyful though. You sound like you're very gifted at most musical instruments; like you can pick up any instrument and play instinctively. That's precious a gift and rare. There aren't many who can do that intuitively. Don't ever measure your worth against what someone else can do. That makes us all losers! The only person you need to please or satisfy is you. Fuck everyone else. Peace and love brother.💙👌.
@@iamcaseywood7960 I read the whole thing and I am a.. 37.1 mother something anything else other than this would be a copyright but I'm still 37.1 and if you're real then you reply back pretty much thoroughly confused sexy saxophonist
@@nickdumont9891 I'm somewhat baffled as to what I'm meant to articulate in the requested reply; though of course happy to reply. ????? Hope you're well. Peace brother.💙👌
It seems that progressive rock has been very important part in John's spiritual journey. I can definitely understand that when thinking of songs like Supper's ready. No wonder John was wearing Foxtrot t-shirt in the recent promotional pictures and Larks' Tongues in Aspic t-shirt in some podcast/vodcast.
I remember seeing steve hackett live and Yes on the round both we're really good concerts. I wasn't in to RHCP until I heard john play in 2011 .And my other favorite guitars of today is Tom Morello Such a unique style of playing the guitar .
This is a very interesting interview, I would love to hear John's opinion of the new generation tho. Particularly Tim Henson, but it seems like history is repeating again, guitar players pushing the limits of the guitar 👍
John, if you see this, I know you might turn it down, but who knows, maybe you'll think about it....please PLEASE could you start a podcast? It would be so awesome!
Eye loved that Robert Smith (the Cure)had both Jimi Hendrix and the Sex Pistols, &(Jonathan Richman and Kim Salmon and the Scientists ) in his top 5 with Richard Kingsmill on Triple J in 1994 . It makes sense that these guitarists along with Fru feature in the same parcel of my heart 💚🌱🌱🌱
@@Bjarku Slow it down. Exercise słowly. Have fun.I remember when I had figured out Hendrix's version then I heard SRV's Little Wing I have felt really pissed realizing that there's another level of impossibility :)
JohnWeirdoe thanks for the tip :) only problem is when I slow it down I forget what I’m supposed to be playing and keep having to refer back to the tab/listen again. Maybe I need to listen to it over and over until it’s in my head. It’s almost harder to play slowed down because of that but I don’t have the skill to play it anywhere near full speed yet
Best guitar intro is RHCP "Walkin on down the Road"... that song rocks.. my fav all time song.. What it is , what it is... Walkin on down the Road is What Is it.. Everybody come, everybody say Sing my song. Everybody knows & everybody thinks, I've done wrong... Go the Chili's 🏄♂️🤸♂️🥳
He has mentioned D Boon in a couple of BSSM era interviews as well as an interview in 2009 :) John and Flea are also friends with Mike Watt of the Minutemen I believe. But yes, would have been nice to hear him talk about them again, bet there were a ton I bet he wanted to mention if he had more time :)
I am actually pretty sad that John thinks that rock is dead now and there is no innovation. I mean look at Polyphia, Plini, Animals as Leaders, Mateus Assato, Ichika - all these guys are soooooo innovative I wish he knew about them
Maybe he does. Maybe he just doesn't like them? Listen, I categorically am NOT digging you out AT ALL. I'm simply suggesting that if he doesn't rate any rock bands then it's reasonable that he might think it's dead because he has a low opinion of it, not because he doesn't know of such bands' existence. Or, maybe he doesn't as you suggested and if he did then who knows..... No offence intended just thinking about the possibilities. Love to you and to all.💙👌
@@iamcaseywood7960 For sure, we don't know if he knows about them, but knowing him I think he would enjoy them, as they also carry the legacy of Hendrix, so I assume he doesn't know about them lol If you love any of the Frusciante's electronic stuff - check out Polyphia, they are really cool and Plini is very psychedelic/cinematic in his songwriting
@@jkoleee7107 Thanks, yeah I agree Tricky Johnny is a tour de force solo and I love all his solo work. (Love RHCP also with and without John) I really dig that the finest guitar player in the world (arguably) is driven to not just bask in the glory and play his guitar in his astonishingly accomplished brilliance. I also like that he doesn't seem to be driven to be successful in terms of success as defined typically that is; by public adoration but rather, successful in terms that he decides matter. I wonder what it costs him emotionally to dig so deep inside and convey such bleak but exquisitely beautiful truths about life through the medium of music but also beyond the limitations of linguistics......I sometimes can't listen to his solo records because they hit so hard......it takes me time to get over it, no matter how well I know the record. So I'm assuming it must cost him emotionally/somewhere deep inside? You sound like you're possibly a musician? Maybe you can give me your thoughts? Nice interacting with you sweet soul. Love and peace.💙👌
@@jkoleee7107 PS: Are you from the USA? I'm guessing yes. Do you like any British rock music? If you haven't listened to The Jam, The Clash, The Libertines, The Smiths or Babyshambles; please bear them in mind.
@@iamcaseywood7960 I think he made his peace with the Beaty and ugliness of the world and the life and for him the act of self-expression itself is more important than the message he sends. Idk, I re-listen to The Empyrean on a regular basis, it sort of became a religious experience, so many lessons from that album I am not from US, I am from Ukraine lol I am not really into classic rock, but I love The Big Push, they are from Brighton and they do covers and originals that is very inspired by that sound, I think
Me and my friends used to call things we thought were great “sick”. “That’s a sick car!” One day we were in this woman’s yard looking at this big rooster she had and we kept saying, ah he’s sick. And she kept saying, no he’s fine. Lol
Interesting hearing you talk about your influences on guitar as I can relate to them pat smear I new little of at the time obviously he was an influence on many others of the west coast being of the midwest I'd not heard a lot about him he must be a man of skill without to much ego. As I've heard a lot about without noticing he was even playing and cherished by most of his musical family (friends) I cant pinpoint his style of playing what would be good example of his character on guitar? The others you mentioned adrian b. Jeff oh ya Frank had a newspaper or newsletter when I passed through hollywood in 80s on way to unravel in rainforest Hawaii and I found that cool Frank with his own column in the local music scene I think when I popped in blood sugar ... it didn't come outa my cassette deck in car for at least 1 year thanks for your input man cool energy and insights .d.c.
Love that strat sound you get I've had a few but have a hard time finding a good one as I'm not wealthy at allllll. I had a 62 and 63 at one time got in mpls mn Olympic white 62 Dakota red 63 thought they all sounded like that whoops their came that out of. My range feeling again they went up so high in value n I like the rosewood fingerboard s broken in ( to me means played to the point the bugs are worked out or left in for effect by that point. Like your style . David.sqeeze that sound outa um thanks for being here.
I don't know why people insist on calling the NY scene punk. I am around the same age and had access to east coast/west coast and I agree. The bands on the west coast were punk, the CBGB's crowd were so diverse from raw rock n roll bands like The Ramones to New Wave/Hybrids like Blondie and The Talking Heads, whatever label describes that band, I haven't found one... And I am not saying who's better, just that, like the 90's, bands were too different to categorize. The label was really just to help you find the records in stores by knowing which bin to look for them in.
Hey John I’ve always loved you so much! Loved your debates over Hendrix & how comfortable you are bringing it real! Your my fav chilli pepper .... and I’d Marry you in a heart beat!! Removing the songs he wanted to play was sort of counterproductive because a lot of what he says here is referring to the songs hes playing. Some of these songs i never heard so it would've been nice to hear them as he discusses them... but whatever haha 😄
Ive just been pausing and going on spotify. Theyre all here on youtube individually aswell. If the uploader went to the effort of removing the songs, we can assume theres some copyright issues
