No one deserved this more than he did and there will NEVER be another Moritz like him ... he owns that character, anyone else portraying Moritz has huge shoes to fill!
Robert Sean Leonard's character in Dead Poets Society reminds me so much of Moritz (both angsty and depressed schoolboys), so it makes me really happy that he's the one who presented JGJ with the award :D
It was the runaway hit of the season, and John Gallager Jr. was considered the standout performance in an impressive cast of new talent. Check out the soundtrack if you haven't yet. Or look for videos of the original cast.
I WANT TO CRY BABY BOY HE DESERVED IT SO MUCH every day he just spread light and he seemed so happy to be in the show he was so happy he was softly rambling and Jon was crying and I just UAGH
Aww he sounded so shooken up like he was going to cry! I'm so happy for him! A Tony Award at 22 is pretty amazing if you ask me! Very well deserved, too
All eleven times I've seen Spring Awakening I've thought of this speech when Mortiz says "Truly, truly, heaven must feel like this"...... wow.... hahaha
Thats so funny, his words are so jumbbled together, and in the mix of it all "I want to say 'happy birthday' to my friend Seth." I dont think he knows how funny that was. :D
oh yea you better believe it. jon and lea were hysterical, just tears streaming down their faces. all of the actors were crying. gallagher was so overwhelmed by everything. the screams in that room were so intense for him. he was crying so much. i wish i could describe that look on his face during the curtain call. it was a look of such love, humility, generosity, sadness and joy all wrapped into one. he's also one of the nicest, funniest sweetest guys anyone could ever meet.
Well, Aaron Tveit was rejected for being too attractive. He actually auditioned, and he was rejected for looking too much like an Abercrombie & Fitch model, and not enough like a Midwestern high school student.
SO WELL DESERVED. this musical is by far one of the best ones broadway has ever had to offer. so sad it only lasted two years but what an amaaazing two years it was! :)
I doubt I ve seen most of the other acting performances but i feel that even if i had, I would think John Gallagher jnr absolutely 100% deserved this award. Lea Michelle and jonathon were brilliant but John was the stand out. He was brilliant.
awww he really deserved it. I wish this was still playing. lol though he sounds like he's trying hard not to weep and Jon looks like a proud mother/boyfriend
I would LOVE to see that, I would probably start to cry. If you ever find a vid of it, let me know! You're so lucky- I was there on the 15th, the day right before.
yeah last night was his last show. i was there. words cannot describe how incredible it was. there must've been like a 5 minute standing ovation. everyone in the audience and all of the actors were hysterically crying. he left because apparently he was cast in another show so they found a replacement. unfortunately that show was canceled due to the strike but because someone else was already cast as Moritz he couldn't renew his contract.
Is it embarrassing to say that I was really excited to see Robert Sean Leonard and JGJ in such close proximity together because, well... I thought to myself "too much hot talent in one spot"?
i don't know if you've seen them already but there are a few vids of his curtain call on here. just type in john gallagher jr curtain call and click on the 2min:43sec one. it's not the best quality but that one shows basically the entire thing and you can get the general feel of how emotional it was for everyone :)
The Tony Awards are way better then the Academy Awards. Less pompous, self-congratulatory atmosphere. People with actual talent are rewarded unlike Hollywood.
yeah i know he seems to be ok with it now though. he's been touring around with his band Old Spring's Pike. They're an amazing high energy and hilarious group. I first saw them back in April and again just a few weeks ago. They have a lot of videos on here if you wanna look them up :)
