Really enjoyed that! Hondo was my favorite player growing up. A better highlight video that really showcases his scoring talents is his 54 point game against the Atlanta Hawks in the 1973 playoffs, it shows an assortment of mid range jumpers, long range, shooting off the dribble, off screens, leaning shots, fast break. It doesn't show his rebounds and assists ( he was a great playmaker) but really demonstrates his offensive prowess. That was the year he injured his shoulder in the playoffs, they won 68 games that year in the regular season and it's highly likely they would have won the championship had he not gotten injured.
@@ericnieves511 lol yes I am..but hey it's a drag getting old yet better than the alternative...I'm glad I watched certain athletes and musicians back in the day
And he was an incredibly good defender. First team All-Defense 5 times, Second Team All-Defense 3 times. Yet the all defensive team didn't even exist during the first half of his career! You read that right. He was almost past his prime when the All-Defensive team was created and he STILL made it 8 times!
You never ever ever heard of Havlicek? Wow!.... I don't mean to offend you but if you love basketball, maybe checking out some basketball history once in a while won't hurt. I also started watching basketball in the 80s and always watch old film and do lots of research about old players. You'd be amazed of what you might find.
He's the best swingman in nba history... Scored over 30 000 points counting playoff points 11th on the alltime list.. without threes and with hand checking... Lock down defender... Thirteen time allstar.. 8 and 0 in the finals... Solid passer and rebounder... I saw him tear apart all the great at guards and forwards when he was. In his thirties... He was the real deal... I lived in buffalo in the 1970s and he destroyed my braves and Knicks regularly.. I've been watching since 1969.. I don't get impressed too easily but he was the real deal and only maybe bird and Jordan hit more clutch last second shots than him
If the 3 point line was invented in his era, he could be in the top 10 nba shooter list of all time. Just look at those corner and long shoot which now is 3 point spot. His shooting form is smooth as well
@@Wixom2200 LMAOOOOOO so a guy that's 8-0 in NBA finals isn't better than some woke turd that's 3-9 1/2 cause the bubble ring doesn't count 😆😆😆😆 either way Lebronze is 4 for 10 🤣
8x NBA Champ, 13x All Star, 11x All NBA, 8x All Defensive, 73-74 Finals MVP, HOF, NBA 75th Anniv. Team. John played every game the same, as hard as he could. That Celtic Era was one in a million.
I met this man in his house on Cape Cod when he was very elderly. Helped change the batteries on a huge wall clock he had. Didn't say much, but he was still very tall. R.I.P. Hondo
It's crazy to see how much the rules have evolved. Could you imagine the players nowadays playing with the restrictions and rules from back in the day? Almost every single player would get called for carrying/travelling, and their play style would look just like these so called "plumbers".
Didn't realize how cold he was. Could easily play in the NBA today. Seems like his only weakness is he can't dribble well with his left hand but other than that I see why he is a legend.
@@ChronoNinja7 why can Duncan Robinson and Tyler herro but he can’t? More athletic more skilled and a better playmaker than both combined and they aren’t scrubs either btw
Players did not want to guard Havlicek. When they took an x-ray of lungs they were way larger than typical. He would run nonstop the whole game. Even during timeouts and half time...ha
Hella random me and my friends been playing play now on 2k23 with all Time teams and I be using the Celtics I be shooting lights out with this dude lmao I wonder why a video of him just popped up
He wasn't a fancy ball handler.. but you what I watched him play in the 1970s live and very few guys ever stole the ball from him.. and by that time the NBA had a ton of black players ... He torched them the same way he torched the white players .. he never tired ran all day ..he was eas the perpetual motion robotic man
@@manny4552 People today are impressed with flash and don't appreciate the tremendous efficiency and consistency that was the hallmark of Havlicek's game. Havlicek would have adapted and excelled in today's game, he's an all star and all time great in any era!
They they had hand checking..they were not allowed to travel with a euro step.. the were not allowed to palm the ball either.. all this stuff was to create more offense today so the guys run in and carry the ball like a football running back.. and no one can dare bump into them
Better than Curry in all phases. Scoring( clutch baskets) , defence and rebounding. Better leader. He took over after Russell retired. HIGHGEAR. Not the greatest, but better than Curry for sure.
What kind of logic is that. People put hip hop music over highlight reels all the time. It doesn’t matter if they listened to it in their career. Ok boomer
