John Hospers was professor emeritus of philosophy at the University of Southern California. He was also the first Libertarian Party Presidential candidate in 1972.
In this lecture from an International Society of Individual Liberty conference in 1996, Hospers compares John Ross's novel Unintended Consequences with Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. Hospers was a personal friend of Rand during her lifetime. He passed away in 2011.

"unintended consequences" is not a book about revenge.

If i recall correctly, the killings in Unintended Consequences where not exactly pure revenge. Yes, i'm sure that the characters may have taken some pleasure from exacting revenge, but they did have the goal of stopping and eventually completely reversing the course of government policy.

I can’t say enough about how good this book really is . I am on my eight time reading it and have loaned it out to many of my friends . Each time I seem to find something I missed. The book has somewhat shaped me as a person..

@33:00 the Ray Johnson character in Unintended Consequences exists primarily as a consequentialist who is less focused on retribution, than on achieving the goal of individual freedom. (Henry Bowman's character then buys into Johnson's plan, because he sees that Johnson is right. Before that point, he's still not primarily invested in retribution, but in self-defense. He feels a pang of regret at killing the agents, and then says "fuck 'em, did they regret killing the kids at Mt Carmel (Waco)?")

Some preowned copies of Unintended Consequences hit Amazon this year so I was able to get a copy I wish I had got a copy 13 years ago

Discovered the book 25 years ago, bought a case of copies and gave them away. Got a autographed copy by John, loaned it out, never came back.

I'm continually surprised at the high quality and intelligence behind the web efforts at Cato's libertarianism website! WOW! This is excellent!

I found it shrink wrapped at a Hastings in Denton Tx. I bought it because of a cover blurb by Vincent Spinoza of Balled of Carl Drega fame. I keep hoping he will write another.
