Super talented for sure. Dave Mathew’s has this incredible type of talent to sing and play some wildly different rhythms on the guitar. It’s some incredible writing for sure.
And he keeps it going without any help from a backup musician. He always had incredible bands but to see him perform on his own must be a very special experience.
i don't think is that hard to be honest i would say just really tricky. John did a live on ig where he said that this song started as an exercise, so if you treat it just like an exercise, learn it note for note, and play it at different speeds while watching videos or a movie without thinking much about it, you'll quickly develop the muscle memory to just focus on singing!! takes patience tho, you need to get the guitar part right to the point where you don't even think about it, but it's really achievable!
@@ignadrs I agree, I learned the song called “The Stone” by Dave matthews band and it’s exactly like you said. Just learn the guitar part until you have it down without thinking about it, and the singing will come after.
I’ve been doing this exercise for 5 years now, could only sing the parts like the beginning of the verse, end of chorus, but not the whole. It’s hard. While i can sing and play Neon pretty much every bit except on times my thumb detaches and falls apart.
Sweet moment of at 0:29 when a woman yells "Thank you for 25 years of memories!" And John responds back immediately like "I should be the one thanking you"
They’ve been back for a while it’s just that he doesn’t have to use in ear monitors here on stage because he doesn’t have a bassist and a drummer on stage with him. He has on stage monitors, which make it a lot easier to stay on pitch. But yeah his vocal performance during this tour has been one of his best ever.
I feel like the era of john mayer live videos > studio versions is coming back with this new acoustic only tour. These songs sound so mature and sure of themselves as to almost isolated and cold sound when he was younger. Love seeing this type of growth in music with artists
Absolutely love me some Mayer, a lot of his so ga that seem cold and distant are amazing. Sometimes it takes a couple hundred times to fully understand what he's saying. I swear he means one thing and then all of sudden it all clicks
The amount of times I’ve watched this and uttered “how the actual fuck?” is embarrassing. This man is a guitar God. His playing, his technical ability, his lyricism, his singing, and the emotion that he evokes while doing all of the above, is supernatural.
I hope someday there's a release of one or two or three of his concerts in these acoustic stuff with a professional cam and in full length of all setlist
A Where the Light Is 2 would be my every hope and dream. The Seattle show was insane, hope to relive this brilliance he's capturing over and over in the future.
I would have never expected such a huge wall of sound from just one acoustic guitar. I was generally really impressed with how creative they got with the one man band set up.
He is using an electric organ pedal keyboard to play the bass with his feet. You can check how he stops tapping the tempo with his leg at 4 minutes mark and starts playing bass notes. Sounds so amazing
I was at his Toronto show, and obviously loved the whole night; one thing I noticed is that his voice hasn't sounded this good in a long time! It sounds like he's been putting in some real work with it, maybe with a vocal coach, but he's not struggling to hit those higher notes. Huge props, we always knew the guitar was never gonna be an issue lol
I personally believe this riff is harder to sing with than Neon Nevertheless John is brilliant in conveying full band songs to just him and his acoustic guitar, simply masterful...
@@sinjon Yea man I mastered neon in like half a year and it all comes down to that right hand feeling and rhythm, But this song.... I just can't get it done, let alone singing along with it 🤣
Sometimes i can't figure out if he is getting better with age, or if i am just better able to appreciate how good he is as i age, but i believe it's both. I have always loved his music, & this song in particular. Maybe someday i will be lucky enuf to catch a concert 🤞🤞 - crowds are not my favorite, & they are difficult for me to navigate, but i would consider it to see him in person. 👵🙏
@4:00 that strobe light they started doing when he is playing the instrumental was so surreal - the camera can't capture all the frames so you miss out the experience but man, when you are there, it's seriously phenomenal
They have been specifically asking people NOT to record- which makes me think they are doing a movie (documentary) or something. But this song made my husband an official fan.
Young and full of running Tell me where is that taking me? Just a great figure eight Or a tiny infinity? Love is really nothing But a dream that keeps waking me For all of my trying We still end up dying How can it be? Don't say a word Just come over and lie here with me 'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe There I just said it I'm scared you'll forget about me So young and full of running All the way to the edge of desire Steady my breathing Silently screaming I have to have you now Wired and I'm tired Think I'll sleep in my clothes on the floor Or maybe this mattress will spin on its axis And find me on yours Don't say a word Just come over and lie here with me Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe There I just said it I'm scared you'll forget about me Don't say a word Just come over and lie here with me Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe There I just said it I'm scared you'll forget about me
I never envisioned this song on acoustic, but it's really perfect, and sounds so good with the palm-muting and a lil reverb. Hope he comes to Sweden with his acoustic tour.
I about to see this show. I'm so damn excited! Thanks for posting vids with decent audio. Best I've found from this tour. John better make a live album out of this one!
Absolutely ty 4 being so kind 2 post this - so grateful when people share their experiences since it is likely i will never get to hear him in person myself. Very generous 🙏
I saw him in Pittsburg last month and the show was fantastic. If there were 2 songs that he would’ve had the full band for, it would be this and gravity. Born and raised was probably the best sounding song of the night. The harmonica with the guitar gave me chills!
I feel like something like Olivia acoustic is a bit harder to sing and play than this. Edge of desire and Neon by no means easy songs to sing and play at the same time but something like Olivia is on another level.
I didn’t unfortunately but I did find the outdo on Reddit: www.reddit.com/r/JohnMayer/comments/11t5sgb/in_your_atmosphere_full_outro_at_the_garden_315/?
