I started dating a woman 8 years older than me a year and a half ago.i asked her if she wanted to hear some good music! She said yes! So I played Vultures! She said no no no! I don't like John Mayer. I said just listen. When the song was over, she said.... Can we hear it again!?!? It was over for her at that point. We're going to see him in April!
Dude every time I listen to this song I think of this comment and I never quite get it. Not that I disagree. But what exactly makes you feel like this song is so complete? It’s in my Top 5 Mayer songs for sure maybe higher, but I can never quite put my finger on why I love it so much… Could you explain your thought process?
Now he will never play a tele on something like this ever again. With his PRS deal I'm sure there is something about not being recorded or on TV with a Fender
This song may just be his Magnum Opus, as far as I’m concerned. Deeply personal, unbelievable groove, great composition, incredible sectioning and phrasing. Out of his entire catalog of incredible songwriting and composing, this one really stands out to me.
I hear you. But then again I come to same conclusion with every song on The Search For Everything (except Helpless). His songwriting and compositions are out of this world.
@@TheDubdubwubwub Helpless is the best! Love on the Weekend I'll take it or leave it. I don't like "I hate your guts cause' I'm lovin' every minute of it." What does that even mean
@@2v_5r84 It means he hates how much he is enjoying things because it is just a "love on the weekend", and soon everything will be over and he''ll be alone again, he's getting too invested in a fling.
Couldn't agree more. Everyone wants him to make another record like Continuum. But he is beyond that now. He is pulling from all genres and melting them together beautifully. I'll always listen to a new album from John Mayer.
@@mrdeep6406 Agreed. There's a good mix of people who worship, despise, ignore, or are ambivalent to John Mayer. I think that makes him a well rounded musician. (btw... I'm totally in the worship camp. Dude is incredible imo).
Can everyone please acknowledge how talented and original his performances are. I almost cried watching this video on how fucking exquisite his performance was
Not trying to compare or make hotheads angry, but this song and performance, with the organ bluesy version, the slowly built up climax and the jam at the end to let you just enjoy the chords make me think it could have been a composition by The Doors and America, think about it. John Mayer is not in the crowd of current artists anymore, this is just Legendary! An artist that will remain in the new age of geniuses.
Christian López such a good call...I cant think of who to even compare this guy to...he is a tapestry of sounds influenced by so many great artists from multiple genres and eras
Maybe a day will come where John Mayer haters will realize it's all about the tunes man. You can be a great guitarist, world renown even, but if you can't write great songs it doesn't much matter. And John Mayer always delivers and his songbook is large and diverse.
The start kinda feels Neil Youngish to me which isnt a surprise since he said so himself he was a major inspiration for this album. Some parts of song does feel like something America would have written
I discovered John Mayer in 2018 I’m 22 now and I wish I was around when he was coming up. I’m a late but a huge f*** fan of Mayer. He’s my idol, my inspiration, my idk he’s just so Great 🤧🤩🤙🏽 I was in a time of my life doing drugs and up to no good I had jobs and was trying to be a good person in society, and his music at times would make it easier for me to move on in life and I listen to Mayer everyday to keep me going. I’m even saving for a good guitar and equipment to learn to play. Never be as good but he is my damn idol 😫
I love the new hippie John Mayer. It seems like every album he puts out he reinvents himself. I'm so glad he left a lot of the bubble gum sound he had on his "hit" songs in the early 2000's. When he made the discussion to let the world know that he was not just a normal guitar player but a guitar monster it bought him an older crowd of fans ranging from 20's to 70's. I think you can thank Buddy Guy for that when he did Austin City Limits with John. He devoted half the show to his "hits" and then he got down with Buddy Guy and let the world know Johnny ain't messing round.
John is a musical genius. The depth of his lyrics and music speak to me in the same way as miles Davis and the other timeless greats. There's a quote that states out of the poverty of the soul comes great art. I feel every lyric and movement in his songs. Timeless and beautiful.
Definitely agree instrumentally and jam wise, but I don't think it quite fits the mold lyrically and stylistically. I do however believe John and the boys are more than capable of writing some new legit dead songs . Winter tour 2017!!! BOOK THAT SHIT JOHNNY GAS PEDAL
Jacob Judy this, Wildfire, Queen Of California...even Bold As Love! Would love it if Dead & Co tours again and does some stuff John released in his solo years!
Continuum is a masterpiece, we can all agree about it. But personnally, I actually think Born and Raised is one of my favorite albums of all time.. Thank you John!
I'd never really payed John Mayer much attention, but watching all the songs in this performance has made me a die hard fan, I have to say... play on, Mr. Mayer!
+CammojoDragon97 you should check him out with Double Trouble, or his Live in La concert from back before he had his vocal surgery and could actually hit the high notes on Slow Dancing.
yeah his sound is highly reliant of two or more amps playing at the same time. He gets the bass end from the Steel String Singer and the treble from the Two Rock
John Mayer has stepped up to a whole new level. He just got even better. He's now a country rockstar plus the blues. The blues is still inside him. He's just a legend. Who agrees with me?
OMG ! What is this performance... I remeber when this album was released where I was a teenager and didn't enjoyed it... But now I listen to it every day and have a reallyt good feeling. listening this incredible album.
Al Kelly Only weak guitar players go on RU-vid to criticize and compare guitarists. Real musicians see that John Mayer knows what he's doing musically. And he plays with so much soul! I literally don't know how someone can't see that! When you win 7 Grammy Awards, you can start giving your opinions.
I think comparing Steve Morse to John Mayer or even Allen Holdsworth is comparing Apples to Oranges. Allen is a fantastic guitar player in Jazz Fusion and if that's what you like then yeah your right John isn't going to really do that. But I myself don't really care for Jazz fusion, I think they are brilliant but it just sounds like a guy that can use all 4 digits on his hand going off wide open for 5 minutes while the drummer tries to keep up with what ever changes Allen is going to do next. 2 minutes of listening and you've heard it all. I think John Mayer could step into that as style of music if he wanted to but I think the sales point for John is he is as equally gifted writing music as he is soloing over the music with a guitar. I think he used to have a great voices, but his surgery has clearly restricted his vocal range which hopefully with a vocal coach and training will return if not get better. I most certainly don't think he's the best guitar player in any form of music, but I think he can hold his own with anyone living or from past generations. To sum it up he pretty damn good!
***** in this world, there will always be somebody better than somebody. John is still in his prime, he is selling records, and look at the many famous guitar plays he has performed with in different genres. For example B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Kanye, Alicia Keys, etc. For crying out loud he has sung with the great Tony Bennett
This song is SO beautiful! 😍 It makes me so happy that John is still willing to make good music that might not fit in the radio because this is so rare these days.
This song always makes me cry hard…It is always a jolting stop to a busy working life and a reminder that life is so much more than the hustle and bustle…that life is so much more and we are so much more…to stop and smell the roses sometimes. I definitely cannot listen to this song around other people. I would have been in the back bitterly crying because of how beautiful and impactful this song is to me.
Maybe a day will come where John Mayer haters will realize it's all about the tunes man. You can be a great guitarist, world renown even, but if you can't write great songs it doesn't much matter. And John Mayer always delivers and his songbook is large and diverse.
John’s concert in Baltimore following The Search for Everything release, was simply amazing! I have seen him perform numerous times, but this night was the best of his shows I have had the pleasure to attend. I wish it could have gone on and on. I have seen many concerts of many artists over the years and this show is in my top 5 ever. Sublime. He is just so darn talented. 🙂
Artists always make a substantial leap when they stop making music for what's popular, and they start making it about what's important. You could see that shift happening for Mayer over a period, where he just didn't give a damn about filling some demographic need -- and filled the needs of himself as a human being.
As one from the 60' and 70's generation, I can only say that John Mayer will have been at the top in true talent, a visionary, artist. Today's Hip Hop is pure trash! There is no talent in Hip hop. I am now a John Mayer fan and now plan to take up guitar, as old as I am to learn some of his songs.
Alfred benavides It's all one! Johns played a lot with Questlove who is one of the biggest players on the hip hop scene at the moment. It's also probably the most developing genre of music at the moment
Alfred benavides just because you dont like hip-hop doesn't mean its objectively bad. what you hear on the radio doesnt take much talent, of course. but thats how it is for most music.
+Alfred benavides You're foolish, there is talent in Hip Hop... you may not have it or you could just be too stubborn to recognize it but there certainly is talent there. And why are you even talking about Hip Hop, this video has nothing to do with that. I think you're one of those people that look for opportunities to say nonsense for the joy of trolling or just to get likes. smh.
I’m so happy I was able to help mankind move into the age of digital everything so that they understand how to keep themselves from getting scammed. You helped big time John Mayer because in your current life but previous incarnation you were The BEST scammer❣️
Pretty, wonderful gorgeous song !!!!!! Little known and i don't know why because it's awesome ... JM is incredible, he knows very well how to create good songs. Pd: the man at the keys is so.skillfull
John is up there as a guitarist with Hendrix, SRV etc, up there as a songwriter with Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler etc…, as a lyricist, as a bluesman, as a pop musician… Wow, he’s just sumed up all his influences, it’s just unbelievable, this man is the perfect artist! Love you John.
@@calvinchesler7604 Mixolydian is off the 5th (dominant) of the key; The 7th on the dominant is a flat7, unlike on all other major keys, which gives it the unique dominant 7th sound.
I believe Continuum and Born and Raised are his two best albums. And 3rd is close between Room For Squares and The Search For Everything. I give the nod to the latter, but many would disagree.
i am a huge John Mayer fan and dont let this take away from his talent because I believe he's the best guitarist of my generation, but, Aaron Sterling really carries this groove in the jammier parts. He's a hell of a drummer!
I don't follow bands and soloists, rather great albums and Mayer has several great ones which is rare I think to be able to construct great albums and not just great songs. 1) Room for Squares 2) Continuum 3) Born and Raised
i've watched this video so many times and have stripped the audio to play as an mp3 in my car to jam out to. the crowd is so dead though. kudos to the kids in the corner trying to rock out to the song tho. I don't think there's a better live version of this song recorded elsewhere in concert.
Love this one, too. Always coming with something different, yet distinctively him. You know the song is gonna be great, you know his performance will be great, you know the music is gonna reach you somewhere you haven't yet been, and pretty sure my kids and myself will grow old along with him, following him along his musical journey. Undeniable John Mayer...keep it coming, please.
