This one is better than where the light is. Where the light is is a perfect one because its a dvd but this one has the uniqueness and feel. I mean 4:58 cmon boii
So much practice, so much time to absorb his own song, I love how fast and effortless he plays this. John fucking Mayer, what an inspiration to anyone who've ever picked up a guitar!
I have a few more. I tried to just experience most of it in real time. I'll see if I can get the entire night from a friend who recorded it all. Thanks for the comments, you guys rock!
This version is even better than WTLI. The vocals may not be as showy but its more honest and the solo is better, Amazing, is it possible he's even getting better as a player? Christ.
I know a nobody who can play this and more . . . Corey Heuvel - not only can he play it - he can sing it too. He's got some Mayer DNA inside him. Let me rephrase that ! Maybe long lost brothers or something...
One of his best versions of neon. I've heard it hundreds of times in different venues but this was something special. I keep checking for a complete version of the new stuff but I can't find it yet. Thank you for the upload, as you can tell its very much appreciated by all.
Really feel like his voice's coming back, he's nailing some of those intricate high note riffs, that he was struggling with while live on tour. Can't wait for the new album!
Adhy Nugroho well imagine practicing something for thousands and thousands of hours. If I put as much effort into something as John puts into the guitar I’d sure hope I’m the best at whatever that is.
He has been playing and releasing for music for at least 22 years at this point. You dont play and release music that long, especially the kind of music he puts out, for 22 years without getting good.
Short answer is internal timing. You can get that by getting used to playing and singing as more "muscle memory" than they are about you consciously thinking about what to do next.
All these answers about the hours of practice. Yeah sure without that he wouldn't be where he is. But initial talent isn't distributed equally, my friends. Most of us could practice 6h a day for decades and the only thing we'll get is tendonitis. Mother nature isn't fair.
Lucky you. I have all those videos of his surprise 2011 Hotel Cafe show, but I wish there could have been 2 of me. One to enjoy the show in real time, and one to capture it for John's fans.
***** Thanks so much. Glad people are still enjoying them. I'll never forget how gracious and sweet John was after that show. I was bummed I missed him this time, but good of Brian to film and post.
***** I have watched your videos a lot of times too! =D I've even learned how to play "don't think twice it's alright" by watching your video of his cover. hehe Thanks!
***** props to you man! With your videos i learnt most of Born and Raised before it even came out, haha. I also listened to the 30 second snippets on iTunes, but your videos helped me heaps
Here's The Set List. Working on getting the new songs. Who Says Queen of California Slow Dancing in a Burning Room Dear Marie Done Changing (New song) Roll it On Home (New Song) Still Feel Like Your Man (New Song) Free Fallin' (Tom Petty cover) Heartbreak Warfare (Stopped at points where John forgot the lyrics.) Whiskey Neon
I would be so incredibly grateful and happy if you can get the whole set up! You are awesome for sharing what you have so far! We all know his fans are anxious for his new music!!
Man thanks for recording this btw! I did get to hear "Still feel like your man" but only 15 secs of it because someone posted it on instagram. Dam I was so pleased and overhelmed it sounded so cool & groovey!
reading the set list I noticed he already had: done changing (I assume it got changed to changing), still feel like your man and roll it on home almost 2 years ago before releasing them, that's how you can tell how much goes on John's mind, how seriously he takes his music and how much work goes into every song we (probably) hear on the new album.
crazy how often when I watch this (which is pretty often, by the way) I just cant help but to laugh. Hearing his phrasing is just almost funny to think someone could possibly come up with something like that on the spot.
That would be amazing. Of course love to hear the new ones and would love to hear what he had to say about Heartbreak Warfare. Your videos are being shared in a group called John Mayer Knows Best on FB. If your a big Mayer fan check it out. I'm an administrator there and it's a cool fan page. Thanks a million for the footage!
Maybe with the new album closer than ever, we'll get to see performances of those new songs from this show pop up around RU-vid? One can only wish. Thank you for the upload!
The first 2.25 minutes before the song starts are so damn satisfying to watch. Too bad i picked up the guitar at age of 19 because imagine playing like this man at this moment in time
