“John Mayer opens” is an insane sentence. Then this crowd gets an acoustic full set, they don’t know how great that was.

The kids there at this concert have no idea how hard it is to play the Neon verse riffs while singing. Legend and mad respect!

This was truly an Ed Sheeran crowd. JM barely got any applause for some of his classic songs! Unbelievable having John Mayer as your opening act…

When he got tired of writing pop albums, he hired Steve Jordan and Pino Paladino and went full on blues. Then Johnny joined Dead and Co, and the deadheads were furious and didn’t get it at all. And now they will guard him with their lives. John won their hearts. This guy has never taken the safe route and always seems to win.

I was shocked to see the words "John Mayer Opening for" until I saw that it was a favour for a friend. John Mayer is the main event.

This is so sick! John is such a legend for this.. and the best part is he just walked on stage by himself with a few pretuned acoustic guitars and absolutely crushes. Then, he comes out plays with Ed for a bit before hopping back on a plane to play with the Dead in Boulder the next day!! We’re not worthy.

If i was there, i would left after this opening. John Mayer is the best. What a talent.

He KILLED it with "No Such Thing" here, which is one of the GREATEST pure pop songs of the '00s. Listen to the slick chord changes and hook-laden melody. Also, the bass line is superb. Say what you will about the dude, but John Mayer is one musically-talented MFer!

Me and my wife had the pleasure to see this live. We were belting out every single one of his songs. What a great show! His appearance was very last minute and I think a majority of this audience was very young and weren’t super familiar with his songs, but for those of us that are, it was an amazing set.

Wild to see John Mayer as an opening act at a show and people just talking like they're at some kind of club with Spotify playing in the background.

No one plays, sings, grooves and solos on an acoustic guitar, all at the same time, better than John.

Confused on why Ed Sheeran fans did not seem to know the song Neon. John's guitar playing alone should have been enough to win over a crowd that didn't know some of his songs. He's a true talent. I bet Ed Sheeran was watching and listening to John during that set. :)

Wow, it was actually nice to hear a John Mayer set without people screaming between/during songs. And it was interesting to watch him try to grab the attention of a new crowd, he actually got a little more adventurous with the solos and freestyling than usual I'd say. John Mayer is a class act. And it shows that he loves music and performing more than he needs to be the top dog. This is a lesson in ego-reduction. So happy that you posted this video. It makes me love John Mayer even more.

Went to this show. John Mayer was fantastic! I enjoyed the rawness of just his voice and guitar.

Loving up on John for all the hard work and effort he’s putting forth this summer! He’s really covering all the bases, proving what a unique and organic human being he really is. He’s a headliner himself right now, twice over. There’s no need for him to do this opener except out of love and friendship for Ed. I love it. Love him even more.

Amazing John Mayer doing an opening for his friend. He is such a genuine to his guitar so he doesn’t care about anything else. Great to see such concert!

I was there that night, and he was PHENOMENAL. Only problem was that this concert started at 6pm on a Friday night pre 4th of July weekend. It was way too early when he went on to perform. Nobody was ready for him at that point. Later in the evening when he came back out to callabo with Ed, he killed it and he was shown the Love and Respect that he deserved for sure.......

good job filming this for the rest of us. great performance. I love the fact that he got to have that feeling of being an opening act and experience the humbleness that comes with having to win over a crowd. He is a world class musician and songwriter having to acknowledge that maybe the crowd hasn't heard his songs. He's so used to the crowd reacting to him. but.. he does it doesn't he? he works for the attention of the audience and gets it. no star fit about it. a pro. humble.

Do you know how challenging it must be to go from touring with the dead to the next day playing your classic (always the same songs) and then going back to the dead the next day? John Mayer is one of the greatest of all time.

Funny how our taste in music just keeps evolving... I never really got John Mayer before... Kept me entertained up until he sang Gravity... And then he had me. The passion behind those lyrics is something else. Had a true fan out of me by time he left that stage.

Disclaimer: I like Ed Sheeran a lot; his style, his skills and the way he performs live are fantastic. JM's performance of Gravity here is an education in live guitar playing. He blends rhythm with melody and solos in the moment without a pedal in sight. I cannot fathom the skill involved in doing that while singing at the same time! The man is a master. What a treat to see shows like this, thanks for posting.

I didn't realize until watching him play simple chords, but it isn't what he plays but HOW he plays that brings out emotions in me. Such a perfect mix of skill and passion.

At first, I was perplexed by John Mayer opening for Ed Sheeran, but he appeared youthful, and seemed to genuinely enjoy performing. Seeing this, my fondness for John grew even stronger.

Ed Sheeran's music is mad popular and garnered world's attention to the billions, but John Mayer's songs make me be lost in a billion galaxies with such awe. Ed Sheeran's concert would be fun and entertaining as hell, but John Mayer concert would be extraordinary, breath-taking, reduced to tears of joy; appreciation and gratitude. John Mayer all the way!

I have a feeling this John Mayer will be big in the future. People should keep an eye on him!
