John is an incredible musician

And it's so much about what he isn't playing. He is taking up just the right amount of space in the song, his dynamics when he needs to take a back seat during the singing, and the embellishments between the words. The call response is like another voice singing it as a duet.

@@cordia One of the reasons why John has remained a favourite guitarist of mine. Very rarely is he trying to showing you everything he is capable of doing and shredding. He is catering to the song. Giving the song whatever it needs to be the best it can be. Not trying to feed his guitarist god ego like some guitarists

You can really tell that they're good friends who are having a lotta fun performing together (you can even see Ed's face at John's licks and John overplaying a little cause he's just having fun). Honestly such a magical moment between two talented musicians

Bruh where does John not get enough praise😂. Selling out world tours in big stadiums. Touring with Grateful Dead.. jammed with all the greats like BB King. Even Clapton says he's a phenomenal guitarist. I don't know a guitarist from these days that's more praised than John Mayer.

I think a lot of average people assume he's just a pop star, but most musicians know he's got serious chops. Anyone that respects music theory knows he's legit.

He is termed as the greatest guitarist of our generation..and he is! I think that's praise enough

Yeah, I think he can basically show up for any artistic event live and solo guitar, sing backup vocals and do whatever necessary... He will literally elevate any event he's at whenever he wants.

I have to disagree. They don't make the nicest tone together at the same time I really like both guys but John's voice is really uniquely low

I had a friend there, and John was a last minute replacement that worked out beautifully. The higher level seats are still available at upcoming shows. They're pretty affordable, if you can get to one of the stadiums. He's doing smaller auditoriums on Friday nights followed by stadium shows the following night in the same city throughout the summer 😄

I was also there, and like the other poster, you were much closer than I was! I am a bigger John Mayer fan than Ed Sheeran. Regrettably, didn't find out that John Mayer was opening until we were driving up from NY, and didn't arrive on time to see him open. 😞 Was happy to see him for just this little cameo though.

Revives? He's still going very strong. He may not have radio hits anymore but the dude has a massive fanbase. He's about to jump back into a sold out arena shows tour by himself. 20k sell outs, I think he's still pretty relevant. Sob Rock, his most recent album is still genius. He has reached legend level. He ain't going anywhere.
