Although he is the cheesiest, corniest, most cringe dude in music haha, shirt tight on biceps, jeans tight on his ass, all the "woow baby etc" . Respect for guitar playing tho!
@@ezarariawan12 the gibson there aside just watching is so satisfying... o god, how much it's satisfying, that's what they deserve with their politics U.U
For those who don't know about Keith. Go watch You'll think of me live by Keith Urban. YOU'LL BE BLOWN AWAY. All his other songs are amazing as well and I don't like country otherwise but his music. Tonight I wanna cry, Stupid boy, Blue aint your color, Somebody like you, Till summer comes around, long hot summer, days go by, etc. This guy has amazing songs. Really talented guitarist as well. You can see him performing live on Ellen show as well on RU-vid. Start with You'll think of me live performance by him on RU-vid. Amazing song and guitar.
@@troymakowski what are you talking about his #1 is a Tele and he has a stack of tele’s and cabronitas if anything I think of a Tele when I think of Keith he does play a few Gibson’s and has a few Strats but he’s a country boy so Tele would be his main sound
The hard rock style of Keith paired with the blues / soul style of John are a match made in guitar heaven. Two of the best axe men of this generation , thanks for giving us this gem
@@zacharymorris6478 no offense but shut up…. & this is coming from somebody that makes a living having been a fan of John since I started playing professionally. It gets old & a bit cringe to see people constantly want to compare players every chance they get as if they’re the gatekeepers of all things related to guitar
Yes.. It fell at 3:26 For that I continue not usiing strap locks... It's expensive and not confidenceable. I prefer those rubber bushing that fit perfectly every guitar I play. Never had a problem. And the best, they're cheaper.
It was smooth! It reminded me of when Stevie Ray Vaughan snapped a string mid-solo, kept going, and had his guitar tech (Rene Martinez) come out and put his strap back on with a different guitar! Legendary
@@Hezzadude12 You reminded me of when BB King broke a string mid song and kept singing while he put a new one, I think it was during a Live Aid show, you've seen it?
@@faustoorieta I've seen that but not the whole video. I mean, he tried putting on the string on the headstock first and then the saddle...but how did he tie the sring to the saddle without threadung it thru it first??? Both SRV BBK are legendary moments. Cheers
These two stars are so bright that I hardly even noticed the rhythm player! I notice something new about this video every time I watch it and it’s in large part thanks to comments like this! Thank you!! He looks thrilled hahah
@@seirayuki9370 its the only other video on YT of this song being performed by mayer, but here it is :p enjoy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lrbqdwwQGtQ.html
I dragged my husband to a John Mayer concert almost 20 years. He changed to a huge fan. I have seen him 14 times since! Hoping to get to a Keith Urban concert someday!
Watch "You'll think of me live", the live version by Keith Urban on RU-vid. You'll never forget this guy. Then see his performance of "For you" on the Ellen show. Then see his Piano performace on "Tonight I wanna cry". I think Keith is really an underrated musician.
Appreciate The Beatles for more masterpieces than any band will ever give us. I hate to imagine what music would be like without those four lads. And The Beach Boys, specifically Brian Wilson, for his pure genius talent in the studio.
John Mayer really is like the garlic powder of music, you put his voice and his guitar on literally anything and it sounds better. This guy worked with Ed Sheehan, Kanye West, Common, and Alicia Keys and brought the best out of all them.
What makes this perfect is the imperfections. The strap coming off (with straplocks btw) and Keith standing in for John when he doesn't hit the high range with a smile on his face. True musicianship.
Undoubtedly. Both are amazing musicians. I read somewhere that John Mayer had just recently had undergone throat surgery some time before this performance.
The guitar solos are really soulful I like John Lennon's singing and Billy Preston's Rhodes Piano fills of the original. In a great parallel universe it would've been nice to see a mixture of both
I think John Lennon would have liked this. These guys ain't posers. They have the chops, the attitude, and the sincerity to play a song like this, and it really shows.
@jackringo1 they're playing blues scales, not just pentatonic.. but nothing compares to john lennon who is very well-known for his outstanding guitar playing, right? I mean the guy plays this song solely with open chords which is plain genius.
@jackringo1 hahaha you're just an old man that is scared because there are actually better musicians than the Beatles!!! ha the Beatles weren't even that good man....
They each have their own different styles so its really hard to debate on which one is better. Personally I think JM is but Keith is right up there with him. Agreed though, together they are awesome!
1:31 Urban is thinking I've waited for this moment all my life.... belting out "a love that lasts forever" when someone else is unable. Beautiful moment. Real love does last forever. No doubt about it.
I love that at 1:30 John reckons he doens't quite have his vocal range back to sing the next lines and he just looks at Keith and he understands immediately hahaha
Cody Church It's a high pitched part (don't know if that's correct english), and back in 2013 when this was performed, John wasn't recovered yet from his granuloma (vocalchord problems). So that's why, I guess. And Keith's smiling, so he knows hahaha. but that's my guess
casper van helvoirt Haha, I always thought it looked like the next line was actually Keith's part, but John noticed that Keith was nowhere near the mic, so he covered for him as KU rushed to the mic.
***** Hahaha that could be it aswell ;) But since they both have 4 lines to sing each time, I guess John just realised he could hit the high notes yet ^^
and to think - the Super Bowl doesn't like live guitar because of "mistakes" that can be made that mess up the performance... man, these dudes both turned a handful of mistakes into absolute gems. This is what music is all about it. Improv at its finest. So much soul, so much feeling
As a musician myself, I actually am ok with the mistakes in a live music session because that is what makes us all human!! It's a real, organic feel together.. mistakes and all :) you can't emulate that feeling and vibe right there with that crowd, in a studio. Never. gonna. happen.
I think Flea from RHCP said they don’t do live instruments because setting up and taking it down would be way too hard in a short period of time, and not even including sound checks and stuff.
air fits as perfect it's what your breath says haha but fr put a glass where i am i'll move out of the way for you hoping to be the next up and comer maybe have a hit with these guys someday
Usually covers don’t do justice, but they made this their own. As a musician the original song leaves so much room for embellishing and adlibbing. Beautiful
No words. Absolutely my favorite video to watch over and over. If I found out they would both perform this again together, there would be nothing stopping me from seeing it live but I have a feeling this is a once in a lifetime performance.
My wife drug me to my first Mayer concert. Been a fan ever since. First show I ever went to was Ozzfest. I like going from Ozzy to Metallica and then a little John Mayer.
As far as I'm concerned there are only 2 kinds of music in the world: good music and bad music. This is good music performed by amazing performers who appreciate good music. Top shelf.
By chance I saw him in a Melbourne pub before he became famous about 25+ years ago. I always remember that night because its rarer than rare to see someone so gifted and so his success didn't surprise me one bit. I've been playing guitar for 40 yrs and its difficult to impress me but he blew me away that night. I was lucky to see him playing as a rockin guitarist but these days he's more of a singer doing ballads and country pop.
What an odd formula ... Blues Guy John Mayer + Australian Country Guy Keith Urban + Old Beatles Song = Monstrously Great Jam! I couldn't put this on my playlist fast enough!
My Granddaddy was at this show, and he got to meet John. He described him as a “nice kid”. If he got the old man’s endorsement, he’s got mine. Rest easy, Granddaddy.
Would NEVER have picked these two to blend so perfectly on THIS song! Not competing or showing off - just making incredible music. Makes me want to hear a lot more of them together.
Kriss Gennrich I want more also. Both are in my favorite guitarists, singers, humans. Number 1 Is and Number 2 is ... I can’t decide. Jimmy would have love Eric Clapton in this.
I would venture to say that Mayer is a better guitar player than a singer and I mean that as a compliment because he's a good singer, with a good voice. I decided this after listening to him playing blues music. I used to think he was just a good looking white boy pop singer, but he's a hell of a player, and Urban isn't bad either. Mayer is also a better song writer than for which I initially game him credit. Gravity is damn good. Very sparse, but it says a lot in a few words.
Made by Dan Strain in Nashville. Check out the Keith Urban Rig RunDown where they describe the guitar. I have 4 of Dan’s guitars (2 teles) and they are great instruments
2:17 John face reacts to a guitar lick even if it isn't him doing it! Seriously though you can tell john is the type of artist that really 'feels' the music and just reacts in the moment. Not many genuine artist like that around anymore. I'm glad he found a fellow artist in Keith and Jammed with him (and recorded it)
People are gonna watch this forever and comment about how Keith helps John out in the second verse, but it should be noted that he also takes the first guitar solo and crushes it
1:31-1:34 Keith helps out with a high pitch note is the most wholesome scene. Point, JM was a year into his throat surgery and was still finding his feat
Another preference...WOW Keith Urban can be fabulous with each artist he lets into his already divine style which I LOVE, have for many generations. Keepem coming Man, you are my Blessing 🤗💗😘
Of course I am a very ardent fan of the Beatles, but these two nailed "Don't let me down" like hell. Their guitar handling is simply magic not forgetting their vocals
Betty Pendegrast What are you talking about? .... He has already done several covers of Hendrix - his style is based on Hendrix/SRV... He has also done a pretty cover of Comfortably Numb where he plays the solo... Please stop being so ignorant :-/
Great version. Keith’s guitaring is one of the best I’ve ever heard. John’s piece is brilliantly soulful and compelling. Together they create a glorious song.
@@BryceRogers_ That was not intended to be a dig at all on Keith :) .. or country music. But more of an affirmation that he plays with so much soul. He literally has so much talent.
For those of you surprised at how good Keith is here, this doesn’t even remotely do him justice. Keith has been melting faces since the mid 90’s. He’s a legit shredder.
It warms my heart to read these comments. Keith Urban for some reason is known as a pretty boy to many. But he is a hella good guitarist. Kudos for John Mayer on the vocals as well. I've missed his voice. And at 4:24 those guitars are talking to each other
Hello 👋 Tammy. How are you doing? Hope you are fine, I'm Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
Let’s keep in mind how tense of a time this was for Mayer. Any big JM fans know that though this performance is mind blowing, but the vocals lacked. John was going through a real tough time here: a year from his throat surgery and rediscovering his voice and some of the missing pieces he lost. The world saw him as an ego-headed womanizer, but that’s not who John is and this moment in time was a major turning point for him as a musician and a man
Why make excuses for John MAYER, this is one of the greatest songs! Two men making love on guitar’s as another comment had said! Seriously, this song is addictive
@@oneofakind9784 John Mayer had granulomas on his vocal cords which meant he was close to losing his voice completely. He couldn't even speak for around half a year, and was using an iPad to communicate instead, in an effort to give his voice an opportunity to heal. If you compare his voice here to say, 2007, you can see he's still really struggling here. It's only by 2015-16 that you can see some portions of his old voice come back, IMO.
According to Wikipedia John Mayer became obsessed with the guitar after watching Marty McFly jam out in Back To The Future. He was so obsessed with playing and practicing as a kid his parents brought him to a psychiatrist. Twice.
Still his finger style playing involves mostly Thumb and Index finger.....😂😂 but there's one thing he devolped his weakness into strength, this is why he is regarded as one of the best guitarist......
but I laughed hard at that comment and then watching the scene :-D Cause you know that's not true but looks like - that's what makes it funny. You know ... I think that face could easily be a meme :-D
ThatEraSound It's not weird lol. Everyone has their own preferences. I like this version more too. But I don't neglect the original either, in fact I have deep respect for that version because if that hadn't been created, this version wouldn't exist either.
