This was my Auntie Helen's favourite song. She died of breast cancer in 2003 and I miss her every day of my life. When I hear this song I see her singing along We went to a John McDermott concert and it debatable as to who was the loudest singer.........John or Auntie Helen. Thank you John for the memory! God Bless
The most beautiful song I've ever heard. I, too, feel a connection to the land in which I dwell... if ever I should leave, let this land know that I *will* be back to die.
This is actually a song written by Scottish singer/songwriter Dougie MacLean. This is from his first album, Caledonia, recorded in 1979. If you like this you should pick up some of Dougie's music. You can probably find his version here on RU-vid. It's worth looking up.
Dougie Mclean wrote it and now has the definite version - though it was the Scottish rock singer Frankie Miller who first made it famous. He sang it in an advert for Tennent's lager (which can be found on youtube) which became so popular that the single was released.
Beautifully done, as is always the case with John McDermott..In 2009 the Scottish Home Coming prompted a series of adverts, promoting the event. The best version of Caledonia that I have heard to-date is by" ReGael " and can be found on RU-vid by searching " Caledonia 2009 Homecoming " Give it a listen.
@sparti47fan You said what I was going to say! I usually associate it with Irish singer Dolores Keane, but this, beautifully song in a Scottish voice, leaves her at the post, wonderful as she is!
