Me, too!!! I was with a painting group in Inveraray--and I painted a rowan tree--and I gave it to the boy who helped me at that old settlement--the name won't come right now! It was and is a lovely tree!

Wow! What an amazing song! I've known since I was five that I was adopted & now at 56 I find out that my true biological last name is MacNaughton & that this song is the official song of Clan MacNaughton.

My mother in her late 80’s told me of a memory she had from when she was about three years old, sat on her mother’s lap in a big school hall in Glasgow, listening to her big sister Annie singing this song on the stage. Annie died from TB not long after. The family had been unable to afford the medicine or doctor’s visits that could have saved her life. No NHS in those days.

Me! This song speaks to me. Living is the best movie in years. Bill Nighy is a superb actor in all his roles. He sang this song like an angel.

This IS So beautiful, but very sad as well. I'm 60 years and raised 6 children, but I see them as babies like it was yesterday. It makes me very sad. I also remember my wonderful parents who raised 8 children. We're all still kicking. Thank God. My mother never sat down at the dinner table, even though my father tried to get her to do so. She fluttered around us, serving us, in her full body, Edith Bunker. Apron! I miss HER SO MUCH ! Life IS Fleeting.

I had the pleasure of seeing John McDermott in concert several times. On one occasion, he sang Danny Boy without a musical background and just relied on the power of his wonderful voice. That is true God given talent.

Rowan Ash trees were sacred to the Druids. Customs involving the Rowan survive still, people just don't realize it. Even in the early 20th century it was known to pass thru a circle of Rowan boughs to cleanse one of bad juju. Other very interesting customs have survived over the many, many years since ancient Druids met in sacred groves to revere and invoke nature.

I saw a very very strange tree that seemed to be looking at me.It looked at me with all it's decaying bark. The yellow journalistic wrinkles on it's sides were bent and very dark.I ran to get away ,but when I stopped and turned to see,the tree was bending from left to right to get a look at me.ADonovan43

Well sung but only spoiled by using some English words instead of the original Scots.

@@kevingrocott7228 Scots and Gaelic are two separate, and very different, languages. Scots most certainly is NOT Gaelic. Educate yourself about these two languages before you hurl insults to those who obviously know more than you.
@molecatcher3383
@molecatcher3383 Год назад
@@kevingrocott7228 Scots is a Germanic language derived in large part from Old Northumbrian and much less influenced by Norman French than is English. Scots. even today, when spoken in it's current broadest form, is mostly unintelligible to English only speakers. It is a matter of opinion if Scots today is a language or a dialect. This song was originally written using more Scots words than how it is sung in the video, where some of the Scots words have been replaced by equivalent English ones .You may call this "poetic license" others may consider this unnecessary cultural destruction. Gaelic is a Celtic language , completely different from Scots or English , and is not used in the song. Clearly you still have not educated yourself on the languages of Scotland Kevin. I know that I am not a xenophobe, but you obviously do not know what that word means so I can make allowances for your ignorance. However your comments have allowed me to know that you are a moron.
@molecatcher3383
@molecatcher3383 Год назад
@@kevingrocott7228 You started with the insults, and my national identity and political affiliations are none of your business. Also, the original inhabitants of what is now Scotland were not the Gael interlopers from Ireland, who invaded in the fifth century, but the Picts and the Britons - neither of whom originally spoke Gaelic. The Angles of Northumbria (incomers who also arrived in the fifth century) were incorporated into Scotland through it's expansion southwards in the 11th century. If you genuinely believe that Scots is Gaelic then you are at odds with the opinion of most scholars of language, or you clearly still do not know the difference between these two languages. There are plenty of sources for you to educate yourself but it seems that you can take a horse to water...
