“At some point while making this recording, John said it was to be his last. To me, his statement was HUGE. I suddenly realized that we needed to recognize this and pay tribute in a definitive way. The image came quickly and vividly: John sitting on stage, microphone in right hand, left hand resting on his mic stand. The mic stand is outfitted with his mother’s scarf and his father’s cane and bonnet. It is the same one he’s had with him for every show, on every stage and all through the years performing with “my father’s voice and my mother’s good looks!” I imagine this song as a love letter from John to his parents.”
