hello, today you can't believe any thing , what they eat , drink, poke. Money & lime light is priority, Lot of bull shit happening around the world, last 40 years. In a big way, i said the greatest tennis Talent, not Numbers, @@WelshKnight1066
"I'd like to improve my serve. I certainly need to work on my volley. I was brought up on clay so I feel comfortable in the backcourt." Young John McEnroe, who would go on to be considered perhaps the greatest volley-er of all time and who specialized on fast surfaces and couldn't quite get a French Open title.
Then i remember a very old interview of kid Djokovic saying he considers volleying being one of his biggest strengths back in the day! Lol Oh the irony…
@@robertedwardn WHAT????? Bud Collins has died???? I thought I was keeping track of his life. I keep track of all the Grand Slam tournaments yet didn't hear of his passing. I'm so saddened.
@@nikemac84 ; I didn't know of his passing either. Great writer, passionate about tennis. McEnroe was an artist and Collins describes him perfectly. Dual great careers.
Didnt know Mac played doubles with Arthur Ashe. So many people RIP. Including Ashe, Bud Collins and Mac's parents. Mac's mother: "I wish I had a little Arthur Ashe for a son." Meaning Ashe's on court demeanor.
Agreed Yes that was an interesting fact, who knew... Been enjoying watching the Connors McEnroe Borg matches lately, I need to revisit AA Brings back memories for sure
A really good doc film on John’s early career with all the focus on the Davis Cup that McEnroe has always believed it deserves. Bud can get a little melodramatic and the music is classically dated coffee house schmaltz, but it’s still a very well done report.
Interesting documentary, very much of it's time. Full doc of MMcenroe's career would be fascinating. Mac's parents seem like really nice people. Bud collins was a great journalist.
McEnroe is my most favorite tennis player. His bad behavior on court catapulted tennis popularity. He gave tennis aggression grit and guts. The was the best and almost unstoppable. Server and volley against him and he will hit passing shots all day. Try to play long rallies against him- he's arguably the best of all time playing the net. Then he got married... and he was done.
Had no idea that they played doubles together! But it sounds like Arthur truly understood John; wish he had been able to take his well-intended advice about his mental game.
You will enjoy this film a lot more if you turn the volume all the way down! You'll know what I mean after hearing a few minutes of Bud Collins blabbering away!
Was he wonderful? Of course he was. But he lost his drive when Borg quit. He said he felt like a lover who was left by the one he loved. What might have been....
Sadri wasn't the first or the last to learn the hard way that a big serve might be an easy path to the finals but - it isn't enough to take the final match. (someone should have told him how to pick the right cowboy hat) Did you see him refuse the offered handshake from one of the coaches? - They called John a bad sport. What putz Sadri showed himself to be.
Fantastic if you’re a fan…well worth the full hour and a half…would have been even better if it went into the multiple Grand Slams. I heard, somewhere, that upon video review of his questionable calls he was actually right in the majority of cases….that he could see the ball that accurately. I believe that…his eye hand coordination was so quick that he was simply arguing for what he truly believed. In today’s times his commentating is half the entertainment. I’d much rather listen to him than Bud Collins 😊 Just cuz he doesn’t have 20 Grand Slams (Federer et. all) doesn’t mean he wasn’t one of the most talented to ever play. In that regard I like Agassi vs. Sampras, Becker vs. Lendl etc. They just had lives to live as opposed to machines who nothing but. Best.
When I first watched this movie, I thought, "this would be a perfect 1970's pastiche if it JUST had some bare -chested Ron Jeremy look-a-like walking around in a pastel crushed velvet track suit." Then I watched it again... And well, for your entertainment, I submit minute 4:01...
