[Stereo] Mr. Prine and his backing band perform another great composition of his on USTV. Line after line in this song are so great, and the arrangement is quite nice, as well.
I first heard John Prine in 1976 and he quickly became my all-time favorite songwriter. I saw him in concert about 5 times (not nearly enough) over the years. As I learned more about him, I grew to admire him greatly. He was a genius with words. He was down to earth. He was a kind, caring human being, and he made you think that he could have been your best friend if you could only meet him. He was unassuming, compassionate, considerate and was very generous with his time when he'd meet fans of his no matter where he was. The stories are endless. I will always miss him, the best friend I never met. RIP John, and thank you for sharing your amazing talent with the world for over 50 years.
First heard this song while waiting for a ferry on Vancouver island. Beautiful sunny day, no rush, watching seals in they bay. Have never forgot that day and love his music
Good stuff cuz, I enjoy watching you play haven't seen you in person since 1969 you and lil came up to gram an pap Shultzes at 316 north 4rth street Sunbury Pennsylvania in your luv truck and you had that fox whistle in you pushed or pulled that was cool then
great find. thanks for posting. my grandson and I would drive down the road singing this. he was 4 or 5 and loved it as I did too. the studio version has much more groove but this is a PRine find. sweet.
Breaking Away from The Herd Only too happy to hear from another fan of Mr. Prine, and learn that his music reaches all age groups :) Thanks very much for sharing that anecdote, and stopping by to make a note of appreciation for the clip. Glad it brought back sweet, sweet memories with your grandson!
This is what I was listening to at age 18 (Yeah, I admit my age). I just imagine what a concert featuring John Prine, John Hiatt, and John Mellencamp on the same bill would have been like.
Some of the very best songwriting of our modern times. Everyone in the band sounds really good.. but the bass part/player really makes this tune for me.
LiZa Sims ''There's artist who wrest us up & place us into themselves. These are the 'One's' who continue to wrest us up... Even beyond their rests in peace!''-gilpin 21218 Stay thirsty for these 'One's' my friends... For they are the very currencies of Heaven.
Larry Crane (from John Mellencamp) on guitar and backing vocals with David Steele (from Gary Allen) on slide guitar. A couple of great Southern Indiana guitar players that got to play with a musical legend. RIP John Prine!
I was wondering about that - the video is a little foggy, I was thinking it might have been Mellancamp himself on guitar. I know he and JP were friends. But when Leno said nothing about Mellencamp it had me scratching my head. Thanks for clearing it up.
