I do this song in Kareoke from time to time. Might be time. I first acquired this recording on an album "A tribute to Steve Goodman. It appeared on Bonnie Raitt's Road Tested the on a double best of album of John's. The story behind it is entertaining, as he too an image of an angel statue on top of a Montgomery Ward store in Chicago and created angel from Montgomery out of that idea. To write such a beautiful song out of just fooling around shows Genius.
My little brother was just killed 2 months ago.. This song popt in my head shortly after and i wasnt real familiar with it .. I knew it said something about an Ángel but .. Hes my Ángel now and its an everyday song
My mother often played this on her stereo when I was a child, i still come back to this song atleast once a year. Sad that John Prine was one or the first musical celebrities to succumb to covid.
Nice Ozarks shout out... God bless heaven in sound formations and broken bottles... Too much love and too many free drinks too Prine in heaven and the team here on planet earth...
It's a cold snowy day where I am on March 7th. I so wish I was at home with my book and a blanket by the fire. Listening to John is warming my soul instead. He was a great gift to the world.
