I miss John every single day since he's been gone. The good thing is that there treasures (as everyone here has said) like this out there. I had the pure pleasure of meeting him a few times either before or after 1 of his shows. He truly was 1 of a kind. His music was my kids lullabies. This was 45 yrs ago. Now, I play them for my grandbabies. I will NEVER get tired of Mr Prine ..the man that has walked in everyone's shoes. He is a LEGEND. ❤

My mid-70s roommate turned me onto John Prine's music. Since then, I've beeen lucky enough to catch John 10 or 12 times in concert. One of the best such memories was Sunday night, June 19th of 1988 at the Somerville Theatre, just outside of Boston. I tried to get our gang of 6 or 8 people to join me for a nightcap at Johnny D's Uptown Lounge, a great little club directly across the street. No takers, so I went alone. I was a happy clam upon saving the $3 cover charge just by showing my ticket stub to the John Prine concert. Alright ~ that's a free beer! I was sitting at the corner of the bar when John sauntered in just a few minutes later. Saw him shake his head "No" to the bouncer, then dig in his front pocket and pay the $3 cover charge. He apparently didn't have a ticket stub to his own concert...lol. The bouncer obviously didn't know him. Next thing I know, John Prine is sitting next to me at the bar. Then, John Gorka, who had opened, came in and sat on other side of John Prine. I thought I had died and gone to heaven! What a memorable night. Thanks for posting this special concert.

I first saw John Prine in early 1970s (74 maybe) at an outdoor concert about 100 miles from Washington DC. In the sticks as they'd say around there. Not a huge crowd, but a very appreciative one, we were all there mostly for John Prine the headline act. Before he went on, he came and sat in the grass with my friends, we chatted, smoked a bit, shared some wine. The coolest experience of my life up to that point. He was so funny and so very nice. After that, I traveled every other year or so to see John Prine play, Big indoor venues and smaller college venues. Everyone there avid fans of the great John Prine. Last concert I saw him was in 2013.. HIs voice now had a gruffness, after his recovery from cancer, but he was the same John Prine. Sang the old ones and his new songs and went on for couple hours. He died two months after this concert and God I miss him like a brother. An American musical storyteller without peer. This video is a gem.

Great story! He was a gentle soul that is missed by all. I saw him first at a Kent State Folk Festival in 1997. He was touring the “In Spite of Ourselves “ album. Went on to see him at least a half dozen times since! He is an American treasure that should be honored in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! An artist that is in my top 10

An Amazing Songwriter and Story Teller and was definitely Smokin' whenever he performed especially in the 90's even after he beat the Cancer , I agree with all of the stones being said here and believe in all who Loved him!!. Only thing I find inaccurate is the comment stating that he was a man with no peer/ His true friend and Peer unfortunately had died many years ago/a lifetime ago in fact So to honor John I would like to do as he always did an give a shout out to Steve Goodman!! a man his buddy and his peer , and he always made sure an audience would remember him and the giant Footprint the little jew from Chicago had implanted in this Life. Lol , That's what John Prine called His buddy. Not my thought at all. R.I.P. to them both!! They belong and perform in Heaven Now. At least we all have something to look forward to when we die now , Always knew it would pY to believe!!. Lmao....

@@andywilliams1578 I was being a bit hyperbolic when I said Prine had no peer. As you pointed out, Steve Goodman certainly stands out as a peer of Prine's. I agree with you; and, Goodman and Prine are now performing in heaven. What a nice thought about hearing them again.

@ziggymarlowe5654 Thanks for taking the time to read the opiniated book that I wrote on your comment LOL. Was not meant to be critical in any way. In fact I should've simply agreed and added a story of my own!! My apologies for that. I too feel a huge Loss (even today) that John isn't within driving distance to see him live. Been listening to his music and Goodman 's since I... can't even remember when back in the 80's for sure. Can never seem to get enough of what is in the Songs that he gifted to us all. Have a very cool picture of him and Billy Bob Thornton that I'm gonna share when I find it . They're both Laughing and having a good time at a Gordon Lightfoot show from up here in Canada back in the 90's. I will shoot it your way if you like?. Thanks again there Ziggy....

In a bittersweet way this is the best I could ask for. He was scheduled to be in San Jose CA and it was the one time I would get an opportunity to see him in person, but sadly (dammit!!) he didn't make that date. In a broader perspective our cotinued existence on this Earth is precarious at best, and Covid I think has opened peoples eyes to that idea. Enjoy as best you can each day you're given.

Watching this concert in the context of time and place, it is wonderful and heartbreaking for me to be grateful to be able to witness the wonderful John Prine in this concert, his friends and family, and feel his spirit still alive in my heart. I saw him live on the stage of the Wilma Theatre in Missoula, Montana many decades ago when he was much younger (and much more drunk at the time!) If I had only known ... wait, I did know! Life is temporary! Embrace it! Sing along and let your heart soar and the tears flow! We love you, John Prine, and all the gifts you left us! We miss you!

It was an outdoor venue and the day of the show was beautiful but there had been a week of rain leading up to it, so they had to cancel the festival due to mud. Covid was starting its ugly March through Europe and making its way around the world at this exact time. But the time Mr. Prine made it back to the states, Covid was here. Country is sadly strange in that its success relies largely upon the chance that your audience will directly relate to your lyrics. What's unfortunately pervasive, is the following =Dumb just gets dumber and dumber as long as one holds tight on remaining stupid. Like for instance, a crowd of farm boys yelling their approval for song lyrics, describing heavy duty smoking..when the singer himself is wearing a jaw bone eaten out by cancer caused by heavy chew & smoking. We ought to be learning how to get better yet some cultures just love marinating in their own stupid ignorant crap. Even in Sweden! Well there are plenty of farms there!
