About Austin City Limits
Austin City Limits (ACL) offers viewers unparalleled access to featured acts in an intimate setting that provides a platform for artists to deliver inspired, memorable, full length performances. Now in its 45th Season, the program is taped live before a concert audience from The Moody Theater in downtown Austin. Austin City Limits is the longest-running music series in television history and remains the only TV series to ever be awarded the National Medal of Arts. Since its inception, the groundbreaking music series has become an institution that’s helped secure Austin’s reputation as the Live Music Capital of the World. The historic KLRU Studio 6A, home to 36 years of ACL concerts, has been designated an official Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Landmark. In 2011, ACL moved to the new venue ACL Live at The Moody Theater in downtown Austin. ACL received a rare institutional Peabody Award for excellence and outstanding achievement in 2012.
Austin City Limits is produced by Austin PBS, KLRU-TV and funding is provided in part by Dell, American Airlines, the Austin Convention Center Department and Cirrus Logic. Additional funding is provided by the Friends of Austin City Limits. Learn more about Austin City Limits, programming and history at acltv.com.

When I was a kid my brother in law used to listen to John. I never really appreciated the sound until I got older. John Prine is great listening for a wise person who's been kicked by life a few times. A dumb person who knows nothing about life won't really appreciate him. Thanks for sharing your gift, John. I get it now

I've only become a Prine fan recently. But he has an ability to not just HIT the mark on his subject matter, but if you look closer, there are lovely nuances of humanity satire and plain comic relief. That is how he could write songs like Sam Stone and Bruised Orange that can choke you up and laugh by turns. I think he was sincerely and wonderfully gifted. You can't help but love him! R.I.P. John🧡

Sam Stone came home To his wife and family After serving in the conflict overseas And the time that he served Had shattered all his nerves And left a little shrapnel in his knees But the morphine eased the pain And the grass grew round his brain And gave him all the confidence he lacked With a purple heart and a monkey on his back There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose Little pitchers have big ears Don't stop to count the years Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios Sam Stone's welcome home Didn't last too long He went to work when he'd spent his last dime And Sam, he took to stealing When he got that empty feeling For a hundred dollar habit without overtime And the gold roared through his veins Like a thousand railroad trains And eased his mind in the hours that he chose While the kids ran around wearin' other peoples' clothes There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose Little pitchers have big ears Don't stop to count the years Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios Sam Stone was alone When he popped his last balloon Climbing walls while sitting in a chair Well, he played his last request While the room smelled just like death With an overdose hovering in the air But life had lost its fun There was nothing to be done But trade his house that he bought on the GI bill For a flag-draped casket on a local hero's hill There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose Little pitchers have big ears Don't stop to count the years Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios

John and Jerry Jeff passed so close to each other. THAT was a tough time, as I felt such sorrow Johnny died bc he seemed like a friend, not an artist I greatly admire. I know the news chirons have to be short, but something bothered me when they pronounced, JJW, the writer of Mr. Bojangles. I just felt he was so much more than that. To me anyway. There's no historical evidence that a man called Jesus of Nazareth even existed. But since you don't seem to really understand what that line means in the context of that song, I won't bother taxing your limited cognitive ability trying to explain it. Christ, you people are more offended by "blasphemy" than by children dying in the streets.

@@robinhood1016 Well if you think Jesus didn't exist, why are you using his name in your last sentence? You don't have to explain anything to me about Jesus. He died for YOU and ME and JOHN. God instituted the sacrificial system. Without the perfect "lamb" being sacrificed, you, me or John could not have our sins wiped clean. I learned not to judge a book by its cover. Years ago as a young kid i went to a concert in evansville indiana. I kept seeing this nasty ass looking person standing down front of the stage feverishly smoking ciggs and chugging jack Daniel's. I thought to my self that us one knarly looking roadie. Then they call came for john to come on stage, and to my big surprise it was the man i had seen down front of the stage. I was spell bound how one man and his acoustic guitar could demand and hold the attention of such a large audience. He came out abd set his bottle of jack down on stage under the microphone ,and went to work. I smiled,i laughed out loud ,and my life was changed forever. Stil to this day i look back with a fond memory, and say to myself. I was blessed to be in the presence of a master songsmith and storyteller.
