Recently had this '87 Flatiron Festival mandolin refurbished by Tom Dobrovich. The original black lacquer was fading ( it would turn green when the temperature dropped below 60F), so he wet sanded it down, reinforced the bridge, taped the binding and applied new lacquer as well dressed the frets and replaced the plastic nut with a bine nut. I think the tone has improved considerably. Here's quick run at the John Reischman tune "Indian Arm" , which is an inlet on the British Columbia Coast near Vancouver.
