"Lawns" performed by John Scofield Trio Blue Note Milano 21-10-2014 John Scofield - guitar Steve Swallow - bass Bill Stewart - drums www.bluenotemilano.com
No one plays like him. Just been listening to Combo 66 and he's still got it! Hendrix and Holdsworth have been my biggest influences but Sco remains the best in my book! I've had the pleasure of meeting him on 3 occasions too. A great man!
When I first started listening to Scofield’s rendition, I thought ‘He’s playing it too fast; it’s not an uptempo song.’ But I’d forgotten how lush and fat Scofield’s notes are. The way he plays it, takes the song to a whole new dimension. It’s soulful without cheating the song of its essence. Simply amazing! And Swallow’s bass is totally in sync with Scofield’s guitar.😮😮😮😮
I think what sets Scofield apart from many other contemporay jazz guitarists is his timing; he has an incredible sense of groove. Also his blues bends.
Fantastic playing by Bill Stewart. He's really playing for the music, very sensitive drum part that goes perfectly with this tune. And that ride cymbal tone and technique is just excellent!
Mr. Scofield turns all the scales into sweet warm bubblegum that stir together so nicely the autumn wind outside does no better with the leaves. Yah as another gentleman in comments said- "his playing is wonderful".
I love this because it sounds like it’s a ballad but it’s also got that country thing going on with it with the guitar and it’s just relaxed. It’s beautiful!
I love the black Ibanez AS200, beautiful instrument. Doesn't sound quite as good as his #1 IMHO, but its still a nice looking/sounding instrument. Love Sco's arrangement of this Carla Bley composition also.
i believe rosenwinkel popped into his head at 2:25 , a little nod to that classic rosenwinkel lick. scofield is such an endless font of "the flow".total master
