Anybody that hates on this style doesn't know what music is all about. Bringing out your creativity and being able to flow in it is amazing! Jazz is hard to beat.

I once had an instructional video by John Patitucci. I wish I still had it. He is an awesome player and a fine teacher.

Music lover since the craddle. The thing about jazz is, I don't think it's meant to please at all, but rather to impress, which is besides the point, to me and many other music lovers, sadly. Although I enjoy each performance individually, there is no real pleasure in listening to the collective gibberish they produce. Sure, it's sounds like jazz, nice background for your cafe laté and croissant, but it's so boooooooooooring. No stance, no statement, no root feeling. Clean elevator music. I still and always will come to dig the technique and general craftmanship, but few pieces will ever make it into my top 100. I'm sure most folks here will think of me as an ignorant clueless peasant, and you'd be right I suppose, but it is my honest opinion, nevertheless. Thank the gods for the emergence of fusion jazz though. There is still hope. Let go of your scales, you master them. Now, shut your big brains and unleash the heart, please.
