Its a wonderful driving road and I nearly went off it aquaplaning in an Austin Metro after heavy rain at night! Probably on the same night John Shuttleworth went off! If not the same night, the same week. 1991 March 3rd. Pigeons In Flight was at No.6 and climbing in the imaginary pop parade. Boring addition. Edit: Aquaplaning the Metro on the Snake Pass was true by the way, and blinking terrifying, as it was pitch black and you couldn't see what was obviously a hell a lot of water. The Metro stayed straight as the average Brighton resident and went fortunately slowly sideways across the centre lines with what felt an eternity of sliding, till the tyres gripped tarmac again and we could steer back onto the right lane just in time - and just carried on - a little slower and looking wide eyed at the road ahead. I would have been doing 60 for sure. I was young and stupid. Funny enough today I was driving down the A21 in heavy rain and knew very well there would be plenty of standing water and plenty of chances for young fools to fly off the road. The noise and feel as you hit the water is unmistakeable. The A21 can be dodgy.
I prefer his more serious stuff, Can,t Go Back To Savoury Now is a social comment, and a political one. This is just too lightweight, although it covers a serious subject, it doesn,t stack up against his early material
