And Moffat stated in an interview that he and Michelle Gomez are hilarious together. I sort of hope it mimics the Smith-Tennant dynamic from the 50th, while at the same time putting the Doctor in some big danger as well.
I wouldn’t say he hates them, but we don’t like to acknowledge just how much harassment and privacy breach actors who play famous roles are subjected to by fans. I’m sure other Doctor Who actors have also dealt with (as well anyone who played in a big and popular show or movie). He’s just talking about his worst experiences here which he can now look back on and laugh at. If he actually hated fans he wouldn’t have returned for the series 10 finale. Honestly, I feel like for the most part when actors play big roles like this and get a huge fanbase we stop treating them like real people. Stalking, getting called out in the middle of another event, being recognized, etc all becomes very common and I can’t imagine anyone who would ENJOY being subjected to that. Doesn’t mean they necessarily hate doing those roles or the entire fanbase. I mean let’s be real, you’re doing a play and in the middle of your performance people in your crowd start screaming about the Master. That’s just disruptive and disrespectful, but there isn’t even much the person themselves could do about it because all of a sudden everything they do (well I say everything; I mean every bad thing) is now in the public eye (for example if most people cheat on their wife they get a divorce and maybe their close friends and family know and talk about it; if a celebrity cheats it’s an international incident and it only escalates from there).
