After an extended visit to the hospital, Obergruppenführer John Smith learns a horrible truth from doctor Adler: his son has an incurable muscle disease which will lead to paralysis in a matter of months. The doctor gives John a syringe in order to euthanise Thomas, which is required to happen under Reich law.

This series, like almost all postwar literature, is a complete misrepresentation of the ideology in question. The euthanasia program applied in Germany (it was suspended in 1941), was only done in cases of severe mental or physical disability, which is obviously not the case with Thomas. And it also started when parents themselves sent letters to Hitler asking for euthanasia for their children, just the opposite of what is shown in the show.

People forget that Hitler isn't some idealist who will walk every word he preaches in his manifestos and speeches. His ideology adjusts to suit his political and personal needs. As is evident when he moved up the Japanese as similar in rank to the White Aryan race because it was politically beneficial to ally with them during the war. He didn't like it, but he did for his own benefit. Hitler, just like any dictator, is a selfish opportunist. I imagine he would make exceptions for himself if he had a child with medical deficiencies

i like it when in games or shows that involves a nazi or former nazi realizing that their ideology of the Reich is wrong when it comes to their children. One character that was involved in this situation was a character by the name of Klaus Kreutz in the reboot of Wolfenstein. He was a nazi officer married to a lovely wife who were trying their best to have a child, When his wife was pregnant, Their child was born with a clubfoot. Klaus realize what would happen to his newborn baby, the doctors reported it in about the baby's defect, and Klaus and his wife fought the hospital and officers to save his baby, but Klaus lost both his baby, and wife to the hands of a nazi officer who shoot both of them. Very naive. He is giving him a house kit to kill his son while not registering it in the official documentation. So suppose Obergruppenführer does it and the good doctor dies in the meantime, there is no record of why the boy was euthanized. If I was in some perverted state told to harm somebody on the legal grounds I would ask that request very well documented through several instances of the legal system. Even than I probably wouldn’t do it. Doctors character description is idiotic and no wonder Mr. Smith killed him at the end.

well, this was simply euthanasia... so why not? he would die anyway, and in atrocious suffering, so I don't see why it would make such a big drama

@@ArnoldTohtFan yes... even to make him live an extra year or 2 in a very bad way and in pain he went so far as to kill the doctor (and it was of no use anyway) 😅another dead man for nothing (and a dead man who, as a doctor, had and would continue to help other people)... the most selfish man in the world, perfect

feel bad for the doctor. He was just the messenger.

Eh, more than that. He was legally obligated to euthanize John's son too. Only because of John's high ranking he let him do it.
