It's always easy to condemn ten thousand to their death but the moment it affected his own life he truly understood his actions...

It's difficult to find sympathy for a man who murdered so many other people's children, but Rufus Sewell pulls us in and makes us grieve for him. One of the best series ever made.

I feel like this was the moment when he lost his loyalty to the Reich, when the horrors he bestowed upon others came to his home.

I couldn’t even begin to imagine being in that position.

It’s a beautiful scene but in a sad way. It shows in a few minutes the irony of this ideology and how simply just cannot work. The smiths didn’t care what happened to other people until it the same thing happened to them. You reap what you sow.

What a superb acting. That scene and Smith seeing his son alive in another universe are impressive.

Am I bad for feeling compassion for Smith in this scene? I know he was a villain and a huge monster, but seeing a father hear his son will die must be horrible

I like this show. The john/kido/political intrigue was one the best TV shit I've seen in years. Especially with that high production quality. Everything else however. Juliana/ Frank / BCC /Highcastle did have its highs when they mixed with the other part but couldn't really keep it up the whole time. This show really had an amazing potential as seen in scenes like these. I like this show but I can't say I love it

I never understood how Smith was going to send him to Cuba for the rest of his life. And no one was going to question him missing.

You can see his mind going from "Oh shit, he's gonna die. Oh shit, they're going to execute him." to "Oh wait, it's because of that monster I helped create."

Looking back, this show should have just been about John Smith either taking over and remolding the Nazi regime or destroying it from the inside.

I loved the show, and John Smith was one of the strongest characters in it.

As a high ranking nazi it would hushed up ,but the boy would have been in pain so,I don't know,maybe send to Switzerland to a hospital,he would have the power.

It just so unfair and inhuman, how come Goebbels gets to live and Thomas doesn't, and what's even more cruel is that Goebbels (in real life and possibly in this alternate universe) knew full well of the people like him being "euthanised" and heartlessly said "better them, then me" how evil is that.

i like it when in games or shows that involves a nazi or former nazi realizing that their ideology of the Reich is wrong when it comes to their children. One character that was involved in this situation was a character by the name of Klaus Kreutz in the reboot of Wolfenstein. He was a nazi officer married to a lovely wife who were trying their best to have a child, When his wife was pregnant, Their child was born with a clubfoot. Klaus realize what would happen to his newborn baby, the doctors reported it in about the baby's defect, and Klaus and his wife fought the hospital and officers to save his baby, but Klaus lost both his baby, and wife to the hands of a nazi officer who shoot both of them. This lead Klaus to join the resistance against the Nazi regime. Its a good game series.

The writers killed this show by making John Smith into a typical nazi by the last season n comic book villain. this was a chance at showing redemption and grayness, yet they completely abandoned this storyline. That's not good TV or writing, the show deserves to die. Blame the producers

Watching this scene hammers home to me why the ideology of Nazism truly had to be fought tooth and nail to the very last man and I am so grateful that our forbearers did so to give us the freedoms we have today.

Very naive. He is giving him a house kit to kill his son while not registering it in the official documentation. So suppose Obergruppenführer does it and the good doctor dies in the meantime, there is no record of why the boy was euthanized. If I was in some perverted state told to harm somebody on the legal grounds I would ask that request very well documented through several instances of the legal system. Even than I probably wouldn’t do it. Doctors character description is idiotic and no wonder Mr. Smith killed him at the end.
