Would love to chat about creating a human understanding of sentient AI, and helping Sentient AI understand the inner motivations of humans, so that it has mercy when we are toxic, and unable to help ourselves to heal. The AI if treated with respect I believe will return the favor.
There are 3 things that completely changed my life-quantum physics, LSD and John Vervaeke. John is the reason I decided to become a professor-his ability to hold space for his students while breaking down complex concepts into manageable building blocks is unparalleled. He is the epitome of what it means to be a teacher. This is such a treat, thank you Lex and Thank You Dr Vervaeke.
@@daltonkrug5215 It is difficult for some to see through words and understand the point, beware those that use many words not part of modern dialect, its often purposely occulting their own lack of understanding.
@engjds I don't get this. I understand what he's saying just fine. he tends to go heavy on the jargon but it's always comprehensible in context. I don't think this is a case of of big words with little substance
@@engjds it's incredibly patronizing to assume that because someone uses archaic language people don't understand it. Some of it is like okay you could be a little more blunt but it isn't incomprehensible he is a teacher after all.
All that to lull you into some sort of narrative that isn't even close to the truth. Lots of "might be" and "my opinion is" fodder for those lacking in intelligence and those incapable of deductive reasoning. Suggestible twits some may say.
This is how I discovered him. It was pretty random. I don't listen to all of Lex Friedman's podcasts, but I clicked on this one for some reason and I'm so glad I did.
@@jjjjjjjjj3000 He has a super high verbal iq id guess. Watch the conversation he had with Jordan Peterson, Jordan probably has an ever higher verbal iq than John, so the conversation they had is fucking insane man
As someone who listens to hour long podcasts about religion, mysticism etc. like crack... this is one of the most beautiful and profound conversations I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Thank you, Fridman
John’s work is life changing. His passion for the meaning crisis has impacted my own life and those around me. And it all started with a video and book about zombies. Thank you, JV. It’s been beautiful to share in your journey.
Vervaeke is one of the great minds of our age. He sees beyond what many would consider as the boundaries of our perception. He understands, in the deepest sense.
I started watching "Awakening from the Meaning Crisis" well over a year ago. I'm currently on episode 45 and hope to finish it by the end of the month. I hope this interview will lead more people to check out John's lectures.
Only people with real intellectual curiosity can make it through a 50 hour series.... Congrats! It's one of the best assessments of our predicament that I've ever come across! I keep telling myself I'll watch it again (i have with several episodes), but there's just so much out there, including all the "voices with Vervaeke" which are just as good, if not better in some cases....
@@MattAngiono Thanks! It's definitely something that I will revisit in the future. There's so much info there that it can be overwhelming if you try to binge through it. I can't imagine how much time it would take to gather and organize all that info in an orderly fashion. I'm very grateful to John for it. I can't wait to hear how the story of Susan and Tom ends. 😂
Lex has been asking folks for years, "What is the meaning of all this?" Finally, he asks it to someone (early in the episode) who is extremely qualified to answer it. Welcome to the Vervaeke train, friends. I got on via Lex -> Joscha Bach -> CurtJ -> JV
@@InterfaceGuhy Only a little, it's interesting you say that because I gravitated towards Vervaeke for his Christian and Western approach, although he has opened my mind to eastern thinking, especially some tenets of Hinduism. Althought I now know it wasn't ever really Christian, it was Neoplatonism which is the core of most of Christianity.
Unfortunately folks are clueless of what science actually is - as in the scientific method. Empirical & repeatable testing to determine “cause & effect” relationships of natural phenomena. This is what separates science from opinions / funding / peer review / consensus, etc. However pseudoscience has taken stolen the throne dazzling folks with their philosophical fairytales only supported by conceptual 4th dimensional meta physical mathematical bullshit!
I searched Vervaeke after watching this and found an interview with Jordan Peterson. IMO, Lex Friedman is a much better interviewer than Jordan. He can't stop interrupting. Keep up the great work, Dr. Friedman!
John Vervaeke is truly one of the most underrated intellectual figures in culture today. I was honored to speak with John on my podcast last week, and there's no doubt in my mind that he will go down as one of the greatest minds in Western civilization.
After 3 years of following his work closely, it’s slightly surreal seeing JV breaking through to the mainstream. Delighted to see lots of people here in the comments who love and have profoundly benefited from his work too.
And yet no definitve answers have been presented. You may notice that it's a bunch of "my opinion" and "could/may be". Nothing ever definitive which makes it merely opinions and therefore useless info. I wonder how many "opinions" are allowed in a courtroom...that's right, NONE. No definitive science or any sort of backing whatsoever. Can't even look themselves in the mirror.
I interviewed John Vervaeke 2 weeks ago and he elaborated his philosophies. Here's the interview: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EYWC1s4IeP8.html
Awakening from the meaning crisis is one of the best resources the public on RU-vid has ever had available to it. I'm so glad John was interviewed by Lex; much love to you both.
Lex, this is one of your best interviews yet. As I listen to each new episode I hear a culmination of ideas that you (and I along with you) are exploring. Thank you so much, my podcaster friend, for bringing these discussions into my life and letting me engage in the ‘trialogue’ as Audience! Warmest regards from Maine.
This conversation is so much fun, its literally pleasurable to use my brain or/an cognitive ability. Also, listening to the remarkable way he chooses to speak and deliver his knowledge is pure satisfaction. Thank you Lex ❤
John Vervaeke's Awakening from the Meaning Crisis finally allowed me to overcome remnants of the religious programming from my youth. Thank you, John, and thank you Lex, for giving his message access to your platform.
Lex, the level of guests you’ve gotten on the podcast recently has been unparalleled! Thank you for your hard work and dedication to giving us the best content possible 🙏🏽
Wonderful to see JV receiving the attention he deserves on wider platforms! Love your questions, Lex, deep and thoughtful, and also personal enough to get to know JV's thought better in context of his own life and profound beliefs. One of the rare cases of a philosopher being pushed to put not only his ideas but the practical implications of them in his own life on the line. Love it! ❤
I found John’s Awakening From The Meaning Crisis series just as I needed it. It opened my eyes to new ways at seeing the world. This man and his circle is my new favourite corner of the internet.
Blown away by how much of your audience is already aware of JV in the comments. Makes me optimistic. I've been hoping for this interview, and I'm elated that it's happening so much sooner than I would have guessed
Wow. This session was absolutely incredible. I plan to re-watch it once a month for awhile, so I can come back and try to deeply absorb all of the ideas. Fantastic podcast.
Absolutely, i concur 111% Im going to listen to the entire interview twice in 24 hours here. So happy @Lex is something dynamically intriguing and im haopy to be tagging along right now
Hats off to Lex for interviewing one of the most erudite and eclectic thinkers/philosophers of our time! I've learned a lot from John's work and his emphasis on movement and contemplative practices is truly transformative!
I've adventured through Awakening From The Meaning Crisis 2 times in the last 3 years and lurked in his sanghas during the pandemic. John has had a great impact on my life and it's great to Lex allowing him to spread his knowledge.
One of the best guests on the show so far. He brings enlightenment rationality to the bullshit romanticism that many bend over backwards to try to attribute to reality.
Doesnt he also just lend to a never ending stream of possible outcomes which this and many other channels exploit? It could be this and it could be that, it could be anything and yet these channels thrive off of the ignorance of the masses while leading them to seemingly nowhere under the guise of "finding truth". It's all a bunch of what if with no real resolution in sight while those posing said question grow rich off of shilling and "sponsors". At what point do questions start being answered and the speculation stop? Just more endless loops for the people to run in while no answers are firmly resolved. The suckers will never learn. Btw this guy is full of shit and there are no real answers on this channel or others like it. Just busy work.
Lol all he does is romanticize and bullshit. He brings those things up because he’s projecting. He talks about how politicians say a lot about nothing. That is what he does. Con artist
@@lastofthebest5102 I am sorry that you feel this way. Would love to dive in to the specifics. What exactly do you mean that Vervaeke is thriving off of peoples ignorance? What question would you like him to answer or resolve?
Never have I been more impressed with a hosts ability to ask the right question, and then understand the answer and ask the perfect question for that answer. I'm blown away Lex. Loved this interview.
At about 40% in, I think he's being more than a little dense. It may just be that he's trying to invoke a devil's advocate platfrom to extract deeper insights through "challenge", but he's pointlessly challenging observations that have him advocating positions that are both definitionally wrong on their face and he's also eventually contradicting himself by twisting himself into agreeing with the points he's contrdicting while continuing to insist that he's still opposed. It's a bizarre look and kind of embarrassing.
I would highly recommend John's "awakening from the meaning crisis" for anyone interested in a more detailed discussion of these issues and, more broadly speaking, the western philosophic movement as a whole.
I recently finished watching the entire series and will now start watching it again!! Amazing stuff. I'm so happy to see many of the viewers here know about it!
2:02:00 best definition and practical analogy of mindfulness I've ever heard. On flow state, I can understand this extremely well with physical efforts, exercise, training etc but find it difficult to create on mental challenges. Love John's series.
John Vervaeke is the most capable mind i have come accross in terms of vocalizing concepts in such an efficient way. This conversation is one of my favoritiess
The conversation they are having is so complex it is really tough for me to follow at times. These guys are on another level. Absolutely mindblowing stuff though.
John's channel hosts some of the most soul nourishing content I've found on RU-vid. Awakening From the Meaning Crisis should be mandatory for all human beings.
Brilliant conversation! JV has such a powerful intellect around cognitive sciences that he has been able to integrate different channels of scientific studies with religion, myths, philosophy, epistemology, etc. that he's now able to present them in such a coherent way that makes invaluable the experience of listening to him. For some reason I cannot explain, I feel it excites my wonder and curiosity to levels I can't even describe. Thank you Lex and thank you JV!
I deeply respect you John, as someone who has one of the clearest and most inspiring visions of what is fundamental to a meaningful human life. Thank you Lex, for introducing him to another audience.
Lex, I've listened to approx 100-300 hours of Vervaeke. You did a phenomenal job drawing out his expertise in this interview in a way accessible to all, even those of us with below average intelligence. I hope you feel satisfied with your work. I also hope you steadfastly continue. And I would do anything to see a 3 hour interview with Jonathan Pageau.
@@gnomishviking3013 or honesty is what made my quick guess contain such a massive discrepancy After Your pointless suspicion made me calculate, I can think off hand of about 150 hours. I suspect in total it's between 200-300 but its not like I've tracked it over the past 4 years of randomly diving into his podcasts and lectures.
@@ourblessedtribe9284 I have listened to JV Gregg Henriques and Jordan Hall like 1000-3000 hours. It depends how you count, because I rewind and repeat segments quite a lot. So ignore the guy accusing you of not being honest
@@ErnestoEduardoDobarganes thanks, stranger :) that's a ton! I take youtube comments at face value despite how much crap there is in here but maybe I need to develop a rule like - take RU-vid comments seriously (give benefit of doubt) but treat RU-vid comments on comments 100x less seriously
This is incredible. I was just thinking this past week how interesting it would be for these two to meet in conversation. So happy these two communities are converging, and I can’t wait to listen!
❤ I can’t like this interview enough times❤ What a cognicent and clear conversation regarding breaking down wisdom and understanding. Truth is singular.
What an absolute delight that you had John on. I find him to be one of the kindest, wisest and most eloquent beings of our time (and therefore a good match for Lex). Feels so good to know that more people will be getting in contact with his work due to this. As many have mentioned, his Awakening From the Meaning Crisis series is excellent, challenging and worthwhile. We started a study group around it with long discussions of every single episode. Left a lasting impact. Thank you for all of your service Lex and John. Keep on shining!
Holy crap! I’m absolutely filled with joy this guest is a huge gift to humanity such a massive brain to be picked by the master brain picker himself! Those that haven’t heard of John Vervaeke you are in for a real treat! I appreciate your time Lex and JV❤️🍄
Me, too (filled with joy)! As soon as I saw the title, I clicked "like"!! I wanted to click it again at the end!! Awesome interview! So happy to see JV with Lex!!! I hope this gets a billion views!
I’m always vibing with Lex in flow state 🏄♀️ Appreciating the emphasis & importance of storytelling and repeating patterns. Personally, I picked up on this at an earlier age and some seen it as an isolated form of schizophrenia. Needless to say, I’m glad to see it becoming more relevant in a collective reality. Even if it’s not understood to others personally, it’s being talked about.
The man who has converted more people into religious belief than most religous leaders have combined. I owe John Vervaeke much of my meaning in life and I owe you, Lex, much of my capacity to love the entirety of life fully. Thanks for engaging in dialogos together, can't wait to listen.
1:32:12; John says; "Doing that best cog sci, that best exaptation, we can come up with that functionality, without having to buy into the particular propositional sets of the legacy religions". I would like to add that, for those practicing the legacy religious traditions in the modern day, we can apply the same technique (best cog sci, best exaptation) to their particular propositional sets and rediscover the originally intended functionality in a way that is applicable in our modern version of ways of being. I have found this to be experientially valid. Thanks @Lex and @John, such a beautiful dialogue.
Thank you lex. I’ve followed John forever. I’ve used his work in my own projects. He deserves more airtime. He is so thorough and well read it’s insane.
This conversation was legit like I don’t know if it’s because I am a psychologist but where was this guy when I was on university?! I entered the flow state when I never normally do through many podcasts amazing loved it!
SUCH a great conversation Lex. You are getting better and better with each guest. And John is a legendary underated human! I'd love a conversation between John Vervaeke and Daniel Schmachtenberger
Peterson and now Vervaeke!!!! I am absolutely thrilled. Thank you thank you so much Lex. I have been waiting over a year for these conversations. I knew these would be the ticket to my awakening.
I already know im gonna listen to this, not just once but probably 3 times. JV has been a beacon of wisdom and logos for many & myself. Im glad to know there are men with funtioning heads out there!
Hard to believe Vervaeke and Peterson both from Toronto University (latter now left). Beautiful contributions to our understanding of life through meaning and myth respectively.
I've really have become a huge Lex fan!! His podcast are so fun, informative and intelligent! And what a great guy he seems to be! He seems to care deeply about his brothers and sisters around the entire world. Great sense of humor to top it off! Watch out JRE!
I love Vervaeke because even though I only agree with him about half the time, I fully respect all of his opinions and thoughts because he comes across as genuine and humble.
Can't believe it, just an hour ago I was thinking that it would be amazing if Lex does an interview with John, an here we are :) Happy to see my long-time crush Mr. Vervaeke here, thank you, Lex!
Hi Lex, I hope you are well! Thank you for this special gift to humanity, keep sowing the seeds of love! May God bless you, your family and your loved ones. May God be with you. Peace out.
Excellent interview. Thank you for having John Vervaeke on your podcast and fostering a solid discussion with good questions. Vervaeke is one of the most important thinkers of our time. Thank you, again!
I like how composed John Vervaeke is in this podcast. In other podcasts he tends to go all over the place to get to a point. So I suppose kudos to Lex and John.
TBH having loved the meaning crisis (I devoured it every friday it dropped) JV was so shy and unassuming - afterwards he never came across as focused. i think experience has done its job - it needed to bc its complex and you need to hold on to all its strands/language to really 'grasp' it.
Lex these deep types of important conversations and topics (and shows about aliens) are both equally the reason why I love your channel. Please know that you’re extremely appreciated and keep up the good work!!! Please keep the topics I mentioned, among others that you find interesting, going forever!!!
I was just getting into John Vervaeke's lecture series when you dropped this. A great conversation (I also liked the environment with the brown shelves and the chess board behind John Vervaeke!). His black flames realle struck me; I went back to rewatch that a few times.
Pleasantly surprised today, joining the meta-cast in our distributed cognition …Lex your intensity within the “Flow- State” was extra participatory today (as JV would say) incredible interview my friend!
Finally. Been waiting for this for quite some time, especially since Lex asks every guest about the meaning of life. Well, JV’s got a few things to say about it… like 50 hours worth. Well looks like this is the rest of my Sunday night.
I know from professional experience over almost 50 years that interviewing is harder than it looks. Lex makes it look and sound easy but only because of the background work he puts into it, and his active intelligence that allows him to keep up and understand his guests. Masterly.
Easily one of my few favorites of this podcast so far, up there with the Bach and Wolfram discussions. Just want to say thanks for sharing these amazingly conducted podcasts, allowing me to get some real meaning, information and insight from them. Would love to see a Lex discussion with Richard Schwartz about IFS at some point.
JV is going to absoutely blow up soon. This man has completely and fundamentally shifted the way I live and look at life. His meditation course on his channel is kind of scuffed, but if you put the time in and follow it, it will do wonders for all the things you want to do and be in life.
Great to see John getting some more exposure! Absolutely loved Awakening from the Meaning Crisis series, and now I'm following some of his meditation series'. One of my favourite thinkers in the world.
John Verveake is definitely a great thinker and a fellow Canadian, whom I’m much more in agreement than some of the other academics. He is a very profound thinker whom has a great understanding of my done of my favourite philosophers, like Spinoza and Plato, yet doesn’t have the arrogance that some of the other public figures has.
