Washington Wizards Point Guard John Wall has a foot race with London 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist Aries Merritt and Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson at the Reebok Headquarters in Boston.
The Hurdles and 100m dash is 2 different things. Aries Merrit doesn't win 2 gold medals because he won the hurdles and just because he won the race while sprinting.
+King Phil Yeah, how dare he not know the world record holder for something as important as running and jumping over pieces of plastic. what a fuck boi
panner11 Most sports are methodical Track&Field is mainly athletic ability where as a sport such as Basketball or Football are both about 40% athletic ability and 60% mental approach, if you don't have the right mindset or instincts you're not going to be as good as you think...
@@freddycalipari4242 John also didn't have the right placement before the run started. Look at the positions both runners took. John was in a position as if he was running a suicide . That's when the gold medalist knew he won.
Peep what aries merritt says @ 1:20... jokingly says "yall hurting my kidneys" because of laughter. this dude actually had a kidney transplant this year. power in words yall
Aries merritt is on another level of fast. basketball fast is different. its more about quickness in basketball because your only going soo far. accelerating and maintaining your speed is a different story. Aries makes it look soo easy.
Doubt it. Did you see him throw out the first pitch at a baseball game? Looked like he never touched a baseball. Embarrassing. My eight year old throws ten times better.
As a track & field athlete myself, you have to give much respect to John Wall. In this age of prima donnas, many elite athletes like John Wall would never swallow their pride enough to even attempt such an arduous task as racing an Olympic sprinter. Again, much respect to John Wall!
haa! I was on a basketball kick at the time. I'm all through with John Wall videos. Saw him get toasted by the Hawks in the playoffs last June. I was like, "uh uh, I'm done, playa".
The race didnt even start but my heart went to aries when he said "kidneys" and the rest is history. Glad he is okay after the transplant. a good and humble man indeed
Why you hating? They obviously didn't shoot this with a razor. WTF does that even mean. They obviously shot this with a slice of onion connected to a cornchip extension.
It's quite clear that Aries was jogging. He took off fast to shake them quickly, and then just jogged the rest of the way. John Wall and Jameer Nelson tried. . . to no avail. I love watching Aries.
Top track athletes are always way faster than top athletes in other sports. Merritt didn't need to run his hardest to stay in front of Wall. However, Wall still runs really well to be able to even run down the track with Merritt at all. He is possibly the fastest NBA player ever. Merritt had a kidney transplant only two years ago and while he might never challenge his world record again he's already back to being one of the best in the world with 13.09 this year in the hurdles ... amazing.
Wall is fast of course, but his best attribute is his speed with the basketball in his hands, nobody dribbles end to end faster, Rose and Westbrook might give him a run for his money but John Wall is lightning.
1:15 this part cracks me up every time how Aries keeps looking at Wall dying😂 and that man Wall got a straight face, you can tell it was personal for him. Then Aries burns Wall with ease😭
The fact that John can even step to 1/5 of one of the best runners period. Besides, if y'all have the ability, don't y'all wanna see how y'all stack against the best? He already dominated the NBA in speed at the time, what's the harm in him seeing where he stacks up?
that would definitely be a big help, but imagine if Washington knew how to build a winning team in the 2010s. Wall did pretty well without having a megastar on his team (Lebron, KD, Kawhi, Giannis, etc.), not that he couldn't have made improvements on his own
If yall actually watch Track you'll see that Aries Merritt was just jogging. He's the World Record Holder for a reason. Watch his races you'll see how fast he really is.
Lmao to the ppl saying he was jogging like you see him take off full speed and he only started slowing down when he seen he was a few steps in front of john wall
Exactly why he isn't gonna beat his record it's not being a poor or whatever sport it's how in how hard you have worked and that it has paid off if I was usain bolt I would blow past the other guys Blake has beat him before in practices e claims
***** I understand maybe beating Wall by a wide margin in a race is unnecessary, but it's incredibly silly to say beating the world's best in a highly competitive race by a wide margin is as well. Not only are these guys competing on the highest level, they are going for world records. It is in no way bad sport to try your hardest through out the whole race. In the case of Bolt in the Olympics, I remember him being far ahead and he ran backwards for the final bit or at least slowed up in some manner. I see that more as him being cocky or at least wanting to celebrate his victory early rather than slowing up for the sake of sport. Not faulting him for that, but I doubt it was for the reason you say.
John Wall is great athlete and it seemed that he was running really hard. But damn Aries just won that race with ease. John isn't no slow poke either.. He's one of the fastest guy in the NBA.
Wall was running so hard kept up very well not surprised top NBA player but dude looked like he was running light n was much faster , the way it looks when Olympic sprinters run is different ! Respect too sports
Welcome to the RU-vid algorithm. Just here to say; y'all be talking about John Wall and Fox and Westbrook being fast. The olympian was jogging the whole time...
We need to organize an all around professional race with speedsters from all the different sports! I'd pay to watch that! Perhaps: Usain Bolt (Olympian) Tyreek Hill (NFL) DeSean Jackson (NFL) Mike Wallace III (former-NFL) Tim Locastro (MLB) Trea Turner (MLB) Billy Hamilton (MLB) Andre De Grasse (Olympian) Matthew Boling (J Olympian) Teddy Ginn Jr (NFL) This would be awesome to watch!! Thank you.
People have no idea how fast top-flight sprinters are. Basically, think of the fastest pro-sport athlete you've ever seen and then beat him by 8-10m in the 100m. I've heard that CJ2K ran a 10.45s 100m at his best, which is 0.9s slower than Usain Bolt's record. They finish the race running at about 14m/s, so at his fastest CJ2K is 12m behind Usain at his fastest! Everybody in the finals of the 2012 Olympic 100m Men's Final ran sub 10s, so no pro-athlete could ever touch that.
Well put. I have said the same thing to friends of mine who might watch the 100 meters and say that the dude that got last is slow. No he's not! I always tell them to look at the time he ran. They'll say, "He ran 10.3. Is that fast? And i'm like "Are you kidding me? Hell yes! That is moving!" To anybody that thinks that the last place dude in the Olympics is slow, go race him and then say that!
Darrell Green had a ridiculously fast 100. Trindon Holliday is up there as well but for the most part you are right. That being said, Bolt beats other top-flight sprinters by 5-6 meters to start with.
+Relbl while that is true many of these NBA and NFL players like CJ2K, even John Wall are running at speeds relatively close to Olympic gold medalists without any formal track training. You take John Wall give him a year of track training and this race is much closer. To add to that, if you take John Wall and Arries and put them in an agility drill and John Wall probably wins by a larger margin than Arries wins in a straight sprint. my point is the NBA players are better overall athletes than sprinters.
The pro was in second gear. If he wanted to he would have blown him away. There’s a huge gap between Olympic sprinters and the fastest football/bball players and most people don’t realize that.
You know certain people do both right? Especially in the NFL, you'll find tons of former high school track stars. A few D1 Track stars and the rare Olympian in certain eras of the NFL.
tghetto5 dude Carlin isles who set the fastest recorded 40m dash in nfl history at 4.19 could only run the 100m in 10.13 usain bolt and the rest of the top world sprinters are on another level.
Razatiger Ault My argument was against the guy saying no one from other sports can beat a "true sprinter." First of all, 10.13 is good for someone who doesn't spend all their time training in track. Second of all, 40 is different than 100m, there have been faster NFL 100m times, some even sub 10, go look it up. Even Aries said he can't run sub 10 as is. There are tons of NFL players who run in the low 10's. Tons of NFL players were former high school track stars and a lot were former NCAA track stars. Some even went on to the Olympics. If only the top 10 sprinters in the world are "true sprinters" then that is a pretty stupid definition. My point is, the guys comment was pretty dumb. "I ran track for 18 years" if he's claiming he's a true sprinter than I'm willing to bet there are tons of NFL players that would dust him. His statement doesn't seem to make sense since a ton of athletes have track and field backgrounds.
You name one person that plays any sport professionally that can beat a 100m professional sprinter. Prime example Adrian peterson but he is not running the 100m. I "was" a true sprinter I never said "is or am now". I am 44 years old I can be dusted by anyone now. I am still insanely fast for my age even though I don't play any sports or exercise at all. Once you commit to a sport you change how you train. Do you or have you ever even run track? www.flotrack.org/coverage/251077-News-from-the-Track-and-Field-World/article/29026-Suspended-Peterson-Considering-a-Career-in-Track
John Wall is not the fastest player in the NBA, neither is Derrick Rose or Russell Westbrook, there are guys with better full court sprint times. Ish Smith, Toney Douglas, Ty Lawson, Trevor Booker & Nate Robinson all had faster times.
There are levels in every endeavor. John Wall had as much chance of beating Merritt in a foot race as Merritt does of beating John Wall in a game of one-on-one basketball.
The result would be he would still lose badly. He's competing against an Olympic gold medalist; he's literally out of his league. People who've never competed in track have no understanding of how fast a great sprinter really is.
Your A Failure hes not trying... you can easily see that aries isnt driving at all & he slows down & he lets his form fall apart before the race is even over
To be fair, Wall's a ball player. If Aries played 1 on 1 with Wall he probably wont even get 1 point. You're being too serious compairing them. They're just trying to have fun. Sheesh.
Bro I'm so confused what race did this guy run, because the 100 and 200m gold medalist obviously was Usain Bolt from 2008-2016 so obviously he couldn't be a gold medalist in those, but any race longer than those isn't a sprint. So what race does he run???
who is faster with the ball in their hands though? That is all that matters. Honestly with a ball in their hands you are splitting hairs between a healthy D-rose and John Wall.
This has to be the stupidest comment I've ever seen on RU-vid. Not only can he not shoot, but he's not the quickest. What was going through your head as you were writing this comment? Are you on drugs?
