Retired super-assassin John Wick's plans to resume a quiet civilian life are cut short when Italian gangster Santino D'Antonio shows up on his doorstep with a gold marker, compelling him to repay past favors. I love the use of background speech to reflect the inner plight of characters. When John stabs Cassian in the heart, you hear "This is the end of the line" as the subway train comes to a stop. Here, as D'Antonio is running away from John -- literally running away from the force of nature he brought upon himself against the warnings of literally everybody he talked to -- the door closes, showing just his reflection staring back at him. Simultaneously we hear "We hope your journey through the exhibit has been one of reflective contemplation." As if the world itself is mocking those who dare test John Wick.

This is what I want to see in movies, the hero being injured, but still being a badass. Like alot of movies, the hero barely gets touched. But John suffers ALOT of damage. Although it's not that realistic, still great to see the hero injured and still kicking ass.

Realistically, when shooting a gun, if you're shooting downward and using the sights to aim with, unless you compensate for the angle, you're going to shoot high, which is what this guy does. When shooting level, the bullet arcs upward, then downward. The more vertical you shoot, the more that upward arc has to be compensated for. It's kinda hard to make that type of compensation on the fly since distance would play a pretty big factor in that compensation. With that said, after the 2nd shot, if they were professional, they should have been dialed in.

I think Ares death is kind of underrated in terms of meaning behind it. John got her the way he got Cassian, with a knife in her aorta. But unlike with Cassian, he pulled it out and let her vleed to death since he had no respect for her. Little, beautiful details...

The complexity of the chess-playing level mindgaming is insane, Ares is fast and aggressive, full throttle, but it's no match. Wick can keep up, I love that the dance reveals that Ares' arm is broken from trying to do a face stab, and because of that broken arm she cannot use any strength or weight to push her own hand (with the knife inside it) away from her. She met her demise because John literally reversed her move and left her defenseless, intense stuff. John is the baba yaga for a reason
