I was at the "Save the old growth forests"prosest in the mid 80s,& heard this song:"stirs my blood gonna make a stand" Peter Garrett addressed the crowd at Bega Town Hall and encouraged us to fight for the environment, brilliant and inspiring speaker and I admire him for his past and present achievements in giving Indigenous people a voice. And his stance on nuclear weapons and uranium mining Aussie hero and legend. Fight the good fight brother!! Peace and justice for all
I don’t think I’ve listened to John Williamson since I was a kid. 11 or 12 at the oldest. I’ll be 26 in two and a half weeks. I randomly started singing the chorus of this song in the shower and had to hear it again. I’ve been a punk music fan for the last decade but I can still appreciate the true blue country music of John Williamson that I loved as a kid. I think I’ll listen to some more and go on a little nostalgia trip.
I'm a 52 year old Tech Death Hop Hop head these days. Still listen to his live stuff. Bad Religion, NOFX and the Dead Kennedy were my fave punk bands. Any new stuff with listening to.
John Williamson's voice is instantly recognizable, and, neutrally, wonderfully stereotypically 'Australian'. It's been almost 30 years since I heard this song, but I remember my Dad had his CD when I was a kid and I listened to it often. Marvellous!
I am one of the last Australian Northern Territory cattleman and I’m never to do a run again , gone days , I miss them and would give my last breathe for one more run , I’m 40 I’m broken bodied but I’d run none the less with a smile from ear to ear, still got my rifle swag but my dogs gone and no run would compare without him but hey he’s here.
Thanks for doing your bit John! I am the future generation now and am glad we still have gumtrees from before white settlement on our farm! I will do everything I can to preserve this pristine country for the future generations to come!
I Remember my teacher showing my class this song in primary school for a nature prayer and it just popped into my mind again for the first time in 4 years lol
Gday john I’m Brad Richardson from euedunda. I’m pretty sure we met at the eudunda area school. You helped my class write a song for Collin thieles 80th birthday. We performed it in the town hall as apart of a stage play. You inspired me to be the most fair dinkum Aussie I can be. To be proud of my land and nation to stand up for what’s right. You’ve been one of my biggest inspirations to keep going. 3 years ago I lost both of my legs. In 12 months I buy my own farm. Thank you mate.
Australians have grown accustomed to wealth and prosperity from the exploitation of all natural resources, be it timber, mineral, grazing land, or gas fields. It's a falsehood that natural Australia is somehow sacred, or that the majority would sacrifice any of their comfort and prosperity to make it so.
I think this is a good news song, Australia's timber trade is now done very sustainably, thanks to people from both isle of politics wanting to make the change.
@@buckminsterowski Queensland's highland forests are made of wood. They are planning to put wind turbines in multiple such locations because apparently they are the only places with enough wind. As of now these areas are high in biodiversity and often contain rare species. specifically flora, due to what is called sky island evolution. Now as turbines do not plop in to the ground like lolly pops. This will require large road networks for heavy vehicles and extensive clearing. All this when there is plenty of room for solar down on the blazing hot plains. And that is a much larger habitat, that can soak up far more disturbance. But you know politicians and their plans.
A song from a time where Australia was still Australian in spirit and ownership too! I love John's music. My parents had the cassettes when I was a little boy.
@@Jigsaw_442 It's changed a lot. a lot of bad ways I think. very few people are laid back and trueblue. everyone has been pushed to work work work and not live love and be with your mates etc.
Got to see John Williamson once in concert, he was just about ready to leave when audience cheered and he came back and sang this song. And this has been my favourite song of his as a child so it was an amazing moment for me.
What am I gonna do? What about the future? Gotta draw the line without delay Why shouldn't I get emotional? The bush is sacred Ancient life will fade away Over the hill I go Killing another mountain Gotta fill the quota Can't go slow Huge machinery Wiping out the scenery One big swipe like a shearers blow Rip rip wood chip Turn it into paper Throw it in the bin No news today Nightmare dreaming Can't you hear the screaming Chainsaw I saw more decay Remember the axeman knew their timber Cared about the way they brought it down Crosscut black but tallowood and cedar Build another bungalow pioneer town I am the bush and I am koala We as one go hand in hand I am the bush like Banjo and Henry Its in my blood gonna make a stand Rip rip wood chip Turn it into paper Throw it in the bin Don't understand Nightmare dreaming Can't you hear the screaming Stirs my blood gonna make a stand
Fkn as a 26 year old bloke from south Brisbane who never let down on the dream .. active in the regiment and never met down on that dream going hard and won’t stop until I make stand .love ya Johnny just like pop did

This song has been in my head for 35 odd years. It comes up whenever I think the word "rip", for whatever reason - I find myself singing, "Rip, rip woodchip, turn it into paper.." I suddenly realised I could Google it and probably find out where I'd heard it... Aaah! It's John Williamson! Of course it is! I just knew it was an Aussie with a guitar! (A guitar made out of WOOD, I'll just say, but enough about that! 😆. ) Great song . And I might add, that he was one of the first to openly sing in his Aussie accent, and as jarring is it can be, it has become far more common now with Aussie artists - though few quite as "occa" sounding as John's 1980's 🇦🇺All Australian Vegemite accent!

Hope you come visit us, like anywhere we have the good n the bad but you’ll love the true characters most of us have along with so many stories that will bring laughter, tears, make you think we’re crazy and see the true blue Aussie battler spirit. Much love to Sweden, personally would love to travel and see many places including your country. Deep down we all one family as humans, it’s terrible shame the most influential often delve into politicians and politics using communities against other communities of the world to fracture the love, the learning/ skills and the support many us feel we could truly share. Yet absolutely beautiful how we as individuals can reach out n pick each other up and remind we all have some amazing individual and patriotic experiences to share. Each our states n territories here so different yet not, wonderful mix of the smallest details which can seem similar or rather contrast. Definitely be an amazing trip for you and us (with your company and tales) when you make it down under, I don’t doubt you’ll be shouted few beers n fed few times by our people, never know which age, gender, race or religion/spirituality you’ll come across that will reach out to shake yours and I love it.
@@bushguidebaz6540 it is The Bush that are calling me to australia ❤️The big citys dont intrest me so much. You just spend your time by yourself. Then i moved up to The north of sweden. To a small place called Lannavaara. Here i learned how to work with Stones and shape them in to jewelery 💎 And I meet so many wonderful People that welcome stranger to thier home with open arms. So when i moved up here my life started for real. And my life goal is to move to australia ❤️
Im not an aussie myself but I just wanted to say this song means a lot to me. Although Im an american I grew up listening to a lot of folk music from many other countries and im a huge nature activist as well. I think that this song still holds up today with whats going on in the world especially when it comes to corporate greed and not giving a shit about the environment or the cultural significance of these places and what they mean to people. I think its super important to preserve our world and I encourage anyone who reads this to do what they can to protect our planet. We live in extremely hard and vulnerable times so take care
That was early on old mate . I have worked in logging myself , it isn’t like that now . If anything their to restrictive on what you can log . I honesty reckon they will faze out native plantation harvesting and supersede it Into pine plantations . But yes as my pop would say it was a good initiative that Bob Carr locked it up in the early 90s without that we wouldn’t have any native timber left . But I do believe in logging for bushfire prevention , as we seen this year with the holocaust..
I sang this in year 3 for a concert RIP RIP WOOD CHIP TURN IT PAPER THROW IT IN THE NO NEWS TODAY NIGHTMARE DREAMING CANT YOU HEAR THE SCREAMY CHAINSAW I SAW MORE DECAY
"Why shouldn't I get emotional the Bush is sacred" Truth. It really is. If you've been out in it and have the understanding and love for it. It is. It really is.
Normally things that got introduced in high school in class get forgetten this for me is the one exception to that rule, i got introduced to this song in year 9 and graduated from year 12 in 2016 and still singing it to this day
Only grew up for 8 years in Australia before my folks took us to the states. Still remember all the lyrics to his Warragul album. Probably what prompted my love of classic rock
The trees help in bringing rain in an indirect way through the process called transpiration. Through transpiration, trees leave the extra water through the stomata on the leaf surfaces. The water evaporates into the air and adds to the moisture of the air. So the air gets saturated faster and brings rain. 21st Century economics = clear the land and pay those doing it Drought Assistance! - go figure!?????????

I loved this song when I was 9! I couldn't understand, back then, why it wasn't a bigger hit. I kind of understand now, lol. That being said, at least journalism is a dying industry, and everything is increasingly going online.
Linda Lee hill jeffery here This song was one of my favourites I'm now 41 and I still can't stand anyone cutting down trees back in 96 I was 17 a group of us tied ourselves to a beautiful big tree on our highway in coffs Harbour so the council couldn't cut down a tree that was there over 50 years we all got arrested but let go and the poor tree was cut anyway to this day I walk past that spot with my husband which is now a crossing and I remember and still feel sad
