I just heard. Guess I've been living under a rock for a few days. I can't believe he's gone. A true comic legend, talented writer and one hell of a friend I bet. I'll never eat my 🌯 without signing to it because of this man. R.I.P John Witherspoon. Thanks for the millions upon millions of laughs.
Harlem Nights is and was so far ahead of its time. To have 3 generations of comics who had commercial success doing it there way in one film even before you get to the rest of the cast. Thank goodness for Sanford and Son so maybe a few more generations will know Redd Fox...maybe they find Redd Foxxx in his albums. Maybe they find Jojo Dancer as well. Also I am a 44 year old Afghanistan veteran with many Vietnam veterans in my family so glad you made it and thanks for still going.
Jay Leno as well grew up the ranks with them. Did you know that Leno was on the episode of Good Times? The episode when JJ had to go to the clinic to get tested for STD and a young Jay Leno was the guy JJ was talking in the lobby. LOL
I can’t believe no one in the room picked up on that gem of a joke when they were talking about Richard Pryor’s house: “he was on fire, and he gonna run PAST the swimming pool”.
Such sad news to hear about John’s passing. I just got done watching this podcast a few days ago and I was laughing my ass off. From Friday to the Boondocks, thanks for the great laughs.
I saw Richard Pryor and Robin Williams and Jimmy Walker on the same night at the comedy store!Robin Williams kept add lining from the back while Richard was doing his set and then they switched I almost died laughing that night!RIP Richard and Robin.
I seen John at a comedy show In Dayton Ohio about 6 months after Friday came out. He told us funny stories of when he was young growing up in Detroit and there were times during the show that I just scanned the entire place and everyone (including the employees and John himself ) we're laughing so hard it was amazing. . He had everyone there in stitches the entire show. , actually my stomach muscles were sore for two days because I laughed so hard. Good memories for sure
John Witherspoon was the one of the greatest guests on JRE. Just pure laughs all through out and a ton of insight on the industry and his story coming up. RIP Legend. Pops Forever🙏🏽
I didn't cry when I heard he passed, I smiled because I thought of all the joy he brought to me and everyone. I'm watching all these again just happy he was here for as long as he was. And after typing all that I'm now sad lol.. still he was greatly loved
I am beyond blessed to be given the opportunity to open for this hilarious man in 2017 at Tommy T’s in Pleasanton, CA. I offered to pick him up and drop him off the whole weekend at the nearby hotel, he gave me a lot of useful advice and really opened my eyes about the business. He was gracious, hilarious, and an absolute gentleman. RIP John Witherspoon.
John Witherspoon was an awesome comedian. We were lucky to see him in Austin,TX may 2018. He had us laughing all show. He immediately did his famous Friday one liners and once he did them all, it was an hour of original material and it was hilarious. Met him after, and such a nice person. RIP
I saw him around the same time in Tampa. He did the same routine and had me and my ex in tears. Hell of a show! Wish I had gotten a pic with him, before he passed.
Can't beat these old stories from legit guys that were there like John Witherspoon would love to "See/Hear" more of these from others great podcast it was
My first exposure to Witherspoon as a kid was seeing him on Letterman. Letterman loved him and had him on all the time. WItherspoon was one of the most naturally funny people of all time.
Joe was one of the last guys to be able to sit down with the great John Witherspoon. He passed away 4-5 months later. YOU BETTER PUT SOME WATER ON THAT SHIT….”dont nobody go in the bathroom for bout thirtyfive/fortyfive mins..SOMEBODY OPEN A WINDOW!!!!” Rip to the original john legend
@blámaðr Loki Kult Did I say I was complaining? I'm racist as a mother fucker. I could care less if he is. It doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that double standard.
