One of Johnny Cash’s greatest songs! I recommend you see the movie, “Walk the Line.” A great movie about Johnny Cash’s life-his music, the love of his life, June Carter and his struggles with addiction.. He was surely one of the greatest singer/songwriters of our time!
If you want, see the film Walk The Line, Johnny Cash’s manager didn’t want him doing a live album at a prison, but he wasn’t going to be told what to do, and the album Live At Folsom Prison, was the top selling album, even topping The Beatles
I'm a big fan of Johnny Cash, but he never outsold the Beatles. Live At Folsom Prison sold 3,000,000 copies. The album the Beatles had out in 1968 was their The Beatles album, better known as the White Album. It sold 12,000,000 copies. Folsom Prison only went to number 13 on the Pop chart. The Beatles album went to number 1.
Lol, I know, I was hoping he would catch that line, he'll have a treat during listen #2...my poor parents trying to explain that it wasn't a real story to Little Me in the 70s
I am not a country fan, but I love Johnny Cash's music catalog. Walk the Line movie helped me appreciate him more. Joaquin Phoenix played amazingly. He had all the nuances down pat.
There's a reason Johnny Cash is in three halls of Fame, Country Music Hall of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Great reaction
Ol' Man in Black was bad ass back in his day! Johnny actually spent some time in prison so he can relate to the prisoners. A boy named Sue is a good Johnny Cash song.
Love Johnny Cash. He was very open to all kinds of music and it was shocking when he brought Bob Dylan on his show and they sang together. It was very healing because we were divided over Viet Nam War among other things and Dylan was seen as a new generation counter culture icon. He wrote a lot of protest songs and yet Johnny Cash brought him on his show. It was incredible.
OMG! If you want to have your soul touched, watch Johhny Cash sing HURT. You will watch it over & over again. More melodic than Nine Inch Nails' version, and just as touching, as Johnny Cash nears the end of his life, and misses his wife.
My father totally wore this album out when I was a kid 👏👏👏 Always want more Cash. The song Jackson by him and his wife, June Carter Cash, is one I think you would like.
I know Cash's voice better than my own parents'. Him & Neil Diamond. I was 6 when this came out & they played this like every night. Somehow I never got sick of either singer 😅
Cash never went to prison, but he did go to jail seven times for misdemeanors. Asked why he perfomed in prisons: "The prisoners were the most enthusiastic audiences and he was a Christian.
Johnny wrote Folsom prison blues. Partially taken from his time when he was in prison. If you get a chance, read his bio or watch the movies made about him. They are excellent. He led quite a life.
Tim,if you have not done so yet, please consider watching the movie Walk The Line. It's about John and his life & how he met his second wife June Carter. I have seen it a few times and always enjoyed it. 😁👍🏻
I listened to this album when I was 20 and now I'm 38 I still listen to it constantly and love his style. He wrote this when he was serving in the air force in Germany .
Adore Johnny cash he is my grandad favourite singer and he often sings his songs very well also I love to listen to it it will always remind me of him especially the song I walk the line
First version was recorded in Memphis and hit #4. He then recorded a “live” version at Folsom Prison with inmates in the audience. It was a more upbeat version and it went to #1 on the charts.
The Danish band Volbeat did a reimagining of this song that is epic. It’s called “Sad Man’s Tongue”. Their vocalist Michael Paulsen idolizes both Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Their music mixes Rockabilly with Metal. It is fantastic and I seriously doubt you have ever heard anything like it. Cheers from Texas!🤘🏻😎
The Outlaw Movement in country is sometimes used as a counterpoint to the frequent complaints about rap and hip hop. And perhaps that retort is valid, to a point. But listen closely to most Outlaw songs, and they wind up being cautionary tales. Get right, this ain't the way to be. Definitely do watch "Walk the Line." Joaquin Phoenix just nails it with his rendition of Johnny Cash singing "Cocaine Blues."
“- Record Company Executive: Your fans are church folk, Johnny. Christians. They don't wanna hear you singing to a bunch of murderers and rapists, tryin' to cheer 'em up. - Johnny Cash: Well, they're not Christians, then."
If you like this which is great please react to Keb Mo’s Folsom Prison - Tribute to Johnny Cash. It is incredible too but he puts his own spin on it. I think you guys would love it. It’s kind of Bluesy!
He played at San quentin to. He played many years at prisons befire and after. Until a riot Broke put once My relative knew cash so glad ive saved pictures, wrote duwn all crazy stories. There is one thing when he recorded this at folsom prison that go beyond everything else :) Anyone know? :) Iam not from US But been lucky enough to have amazing stories about some of the most important People in US music history(cash and The totally insane tour, 2pac, lil Wayne, Dre, nipsey) And from sweden :) I work with music, some famous US artist. But they actully has nothing to do with it
I love this type of country music not just bc the music and stories are good but because singers like Cash talked about issues that the lower class experienced. Contrary to the country of today old country was more progressive in their song topics.
This was televised, and not his last performance for people behind bars. Have you watched the movie Walk the Line? It's the closest biography I've seen about Johnny Cash...and June
I gather he wrote the song and found out it was a hit at Folsom Prison when he got lots of fan letters. He went there and recorded an album "Live at Folsom Prison". At least that's my understanding, I'll throw myself at the mercy of the trolls in here if I got it wrong ;)
Why don't entertainers today go to the prisons today? You do know Johnny Cash did time in Folsom, there's a live of him going back there as an entertainer, filmed in the 60's or 70's ... there's a funny scene with Johnny and the prison guard .
I WATCH THE MOVIE " WALK THE LINE" AND WATCHING THE MOVIE 🎬 I LEARN ABOUT "JOHNNY CASH) LIFE AND MUSIC. IT WAS A GREAT 🎬 MOVIE. I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT (HIM) BUT GREAT SONG. TILL NEXT ⏲️ ⏳️ 🕐 TIME
FYI, Johnny had substance abuse issues. He had spent time in jail, and a short time in prison. That's the only thing white washed in the movie Walk the Line (the time spent incarcerated). You really have to watch that movie. Lots of music, but the closest biography of Johnny. It brings a whole new meaning to his last videos before his death.
Watch Tool maybe Pneuma, Alice in Chains MTV unplugged any of the songs, Kiss, ACDC, all music that is new and exciting to the channel. You guys are great but even if you are alone. Just new things
Dude. Ya got excited and stopped it right at the wrong time. So you did not hear the full sentence of what was said. Man, chill a little bit so ya get the complete picture. Many times I've watched ya also get so caught up in a groove that it flies right over your head what they be singing bout. Just sayin, bruh.
