Johnny was a great storyteller. The inmates loved him not only because he did a show for them, but he was relatable. He had been to some of the same dark places and fought some of the same demons; he was a star but never treated people as inferior.

What is great about that recording is that was recorded in Folsom prison, at the end you hear the prison guard call out the inmates numbers that had visitors. The reason he kept saying 'hack' in this song was because it was a slang word for a dirty prison guard. It was his way of digging at the guards for the inmates. He figured they couldn't punish him for saying it, while showing the men he was with them.

He's singing to convicts back in the 60s at Folsom Prison. You can hear them "screaming" in the background. Far as I know, it's not usual for a band to come play a concert at a prison. But Johnny got big time famous for that. He wears black in memory of all the ones in jail. He had an album or song called Folsom Prison Blues.

I never heard the Australian version, so I don't know if he did that whole thing with Australian cities, or tried to do American cities. Pretty interesting story, however it turned out. But no music people ever heard of Johnny singing that song. He made about a million albums, and it was a buried album cut. But somebody at some advertising agency decided to use it in a commercial, and now people think it was Johnny's song.

Not that think heavy drug use is a great idea but we would have ground all the youngens partying now into gibberring lumps. Read some reddit pages they worry about things like weight of mushrooms trips or how strong their acid is no its bad to mix these 10 drugs together. Us holding a handful of mushrooms, 5 hits, a couple beans, some K , lortabs and some roofies thinking well that should last me a few hours.

Johnny Cash is the godfather of punk rock. You can't pick a bad song from him. But watch the Live at Folsom Prison videos. They're some of the best performances ever.

I was in my grandfathers old truck as a kid. I asked him if he had any cassette tapes ( yes im old ). He said look in the glove box. I opened it and there was 5 tapes. Every single one was a Cash tape. I asked him if he had anything else and he said to me...... Thats all ya need. Iv never forgotten that. That was like 35 years ago......you know what.... he was right.

That's why I never understood why people get upset at some of the vulgarity in rap music. Like dude people have been singing about drugs and murder forever and now you gonna complain? Lol.
