Today's guest is Marshall Grant. Marshall and Luther Perkins were mechanics in Memphis, TN. During that period of their life, they allowed Johnny Cash to join them in their band which later became Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two.
About 12 years ago Joe went to Memphis, met up with Marshall and went to all the pertinent places that had anything to do with the formation and early years of Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two.
Hope you enjoy it.

Wow. This is a treasure. I’m so happy you have this interview and to hear Marshall’s account of meeting Johnny. He said as soon as he saw Johnny he felt chills. There is magic in this world. There is more than what we see. Things are meant to be sometimes. This is a first hand account of that spark, that magic that happens before something big happens. Thanks Joe Chambers for this. I wish I could do more to support The Musicians Hall Of Fame.

@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum I'm 21 years old Luther Perkins has been my number 1 guitar influence and guitar hero since I was 5 and was first beginning to play guitar Luther is still my number 1 guitar influence THIS IS MY OPINION I think Luther is the best guitar player that came out of the 50s/60s I'll take Luther's playing over Eddie Van Halen any day

@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum The stories you share are unique accounts of the most incredible music makers in history and without you and your efforts we would never know about them. We are all very blessed to be able to share their memories that in time would be lost, if not for you! So thanks again Joe for everything. I especially appreciate Marshall telling about his experience when he met Johnny. Even after all those years, he was still deeply affected by what happened. I got chills hearing him talk about it. I loved that. Marshall is a spiritual man and that's good to know! I hope you had a great birthday Joe. Actually, I googled you after I saw the interview you did with David Spinozza. That was a great interview by the way. I wasn't familiar with your history so I googled you and the Museum and they had your birthday listed as June 25 and it was June 24-25 so I wished you a happy birthday in the comment I left on the video. You did point out that your birthday was July 27th so I wanted to wish you a happy birthday on your birthday. Wikipedia is where I saw your birthday info just so you know. Thanks again for everything Joe, you are a vessel of great information and a richly talented man yourself. You should have someone interview you!!! I'd love to hear your story in your own words. The info on the internet was really interesting and I enjoyed learning more about the man behind the interviews! Great work Joe. God Bless you & yours...

I had a Johnny Cash Tribute Band in the 1980's where I live in England and on one of the albums we recorded there is a song I wrote called 'Johnny Cash, a legend in his time'. If you want to hear it it's on youtube, just type in Ron Ryan Johnny Cash and you can hear it.

I met Marshall and worked with him many times when he was managing the Statler Brothers. He was a really funny and fun guy to be around even at work. Of course business is first but he was there early and while we were still wiring the stage before the boys came in. He was a true manager. Lots of joking and having just just good ole boy fun. I didn't even know he was Johnny Cash's bassist the first time I met him and he didn't tell me either nor anyone else. He was the Production manager for the Statlers. that's all I lknew.

All of the video interviews you do are interesting. Many are important from the perspective of how the business works and humorous side stories about the individuals interactions with each other. These with Mr. Grant are a historic treasure. The value of recording what happened, when it happened, and how it happened directly from the last person who was a part of it can't be overstated. Thank you, Joe for capturing it and sharing it with the world.
