This year the JHB had the honor of closing the festival with a blistering Sunday twilight set outside. Here's a killer slow bluz instrumental that was one of the highlights of his show and the festival. Tone to the bone on this one and some relatively rare slide. Even Solon looks like he's diggin' it :-) Sorry Cody, couldn't get your face in the video again. Buy the new CD and support this accomplished band. Johnny said they may be coming back to Texas soon.........bring it on, we need more.

OMG! Johnny Hiland is my new favorite. Just watched him for the first time today. He has that dirty, nasty, Texas blues sound down. He makes it like hot swamp water that gets in your boots no matter what you try. I can smell the mesquite from Virginia while listening online. God bless you-tube. Johnny Hiland is one of the top session players in Nashville. You'll not find a more versatile player anywhere. He's also one heck of a great guy. I think the thing about Johnny that makes him so great is that not only can he play many styles but all the styles he plays he owns them. He's a very special player as well as a very special human being.

If you didn't like this, you didn't feel it. If you can't feel this, you don't fully understand the blues. Blues is powerful. It's not just something to listen to. Blues is felt. It's a story, be it your own or someone else's. From the first note played, my head went back, my eyes closed...and I was there.

He is one of those dudes - like Danny Gatton, or Shawn Lane - that just plays MUSIC. Whatever style, whatever venue, the guy just plays his ass off, and beautifully. So awesome.

As jealous as I am as a player, let me say there is something magical in his playing that brings tears to my eyes . . . love this guy - truly special - wow! If you can't feel these notes - you can't feel anything. And for those of you don't know nothing about musicians, for a player to say this about another says a lot!! Awesome; Go Johnny Go!! This blows me away. What playing. I'm struck by two things...his amazing talent, and how unhealthy he looks. He looks heavier now than ever. I hope he takes enough care of himself to have a good long life. What an inspiration though.

I saw this show, Johnny is a amazing guitar and person. We talked for a while that day and he is so down to earth. He does not let his fame or anything else get in the the way of being one of the most humble guitarist I have ever seen or heard.

The best I've ever heard anybody on a PRS guitar . Most players that seem to play them use a high gain sound whereas the way Johnny plays brings out the true sound of the guitar. Of course he'd make my mothers broom sound good . The man can play !

mark summers And his playing is very clean and articulate, even those fast licks. You can hear every single note! Also his tone is great he uses a compressor pedal a lot which is really helpful. He is a exceptional guitarist and musician.

Incredible guitar playing! I honestly just discovered this guy and am truly blown away by his talent. What amazing feel and tone, combined with awesome technique. I haven't heard blues this good since SRV left us. Genius comes in all shapes and sizes, but you know it when you hear it and this boy has it in spades!

It's called being a contributing factor less pretentiousness. It's an aura and an essence one senses when they become one with the music both player and listener alike. Johnny can reel you in because he believes what he's playing. He's inside the music not outside where you can't feel him and only see him. I see guitarists today playing 57,000 notes per second and all I see is a guitarist playing 57,000 notes per second. When Johnny plays it's soul without eyes but extraordinary vision.

He is so goddamned frickin' FANTASTIC it should be illegal! I have been a Johnny fan for a while now, but every time I hear him play, it's new and refreshing, never the same old boring crap! He's playing here like SRV and the OLD ( Duane Allman ) Allman Bros. are sharing the stage! I think both SRV and Duane would have absoulutely flipped out over Johnny, it's about time he's given the credit that is his so richly due!
