Reading all the comments h ere, especially those of Vietnam vets,..it's made me cry. In a good way. Fills my heart, and I am so glad Johnny Rivers music is a part of your lives in such an inspiring way. Thank you all.
as the years go by Johnny Rivers just gets better and better. I grew up listening to his music, but now I hear the words. will Love Johnny Rivers forever. he gets better and better.
My Sgt had two tapes in Vietnam.... This Realization Album and Cheap Thrills...... These songs would play in my head while on patrol in the Nam.... The songs really had a different meaning.... I can still hear the Artillery firing as we listened to these...
I lived my youth in the '60. Drafted in Feb '69 and was in Vietnam by June. IMHO, that special, never to be forgotten decade, would never have been as memorable as it was had it not been for Johnny Rivers & his music. Sing on Johnny, for all my days.........and beyond.

I probably have a thousand albums packed away. Out of all of them I played this record into the grave. I bought the CD's and I think this is one of the best albums ever recorded by anybody. To bad they don't play these songs on the radio. people are really missing out...
All Johnny Rivers's career is full of excellent songs .. and if one is good the other is better! Johnny is one of those singers who have accompanied me throughout life ...... and this issue is so incredibly well .... I find a jewel of creation!
the best album ever. i was in the columbia record club at that time and forgot to pick an album that month and they sent me this one. one of the best albums ever and the songs are just wonderful. love that johnny rivers. listening to it, is like being in 1968 all over again. thank you johnny.
+Christine Holmstock Hey Christine same thing happened to me with Columbia. Having worn the thing out in a month I could not understand why DJs all over the country did not embrace the emotional appeal this album had during a time that we all had friends and brothers living and dying in the jungles of Southeast Asia. Thanks JR!
@@jab353 OK, this is crazy. The same thing happened to me. I was in Columbia record club and kept forgetting to send in my picks, so over two years I got sent 4 albums I didn't order and probably never would have. Those albums included Realization, Let It Bleed, At Folsom Prison and Wichita Lineman. Turns out all four are classics.
@@jab353 , i understand. i still have my original album from 1968. it is all worn and well used, but i love it. it belonged to a time when there was more love and compassion. and his songs reflect that feeling. and i too am surprised that the country did not embrace the emotional appeal of this album. every song on it is a winner.
The music I am now discovering in albums I didn't know existed is amazing. I forget that others think thoughts like me. Thank you for sharing his wonderful songs and talent.
One of the most honest & finest albums ever done by Johnny Rivers. After all why do you think he titled it "Realization". Just PLAIN GREAT ! One of those "Listen with your Soul" albums !
@@mikeericks3112 What a great memory & an introspective tune of note ! That whole album was my 'with or without acid' accompanyment albums. From a time of deep thoughts & lifestyle changes, Thanks for your reply !
As a teen ager in 1968 this was my favorite album. Believe it or not, I still have a copy of this album unopened. Now at 65 years old it is still the most relaxing album I listen to
John, I so loved and related to this song, thank you for bringing back an important and relative message in this hard, miserable time. We've come nowhere. L/Y. Aunt Ann
I used to have this album back in 1968 when I got married; I loved it then & now that I stumbled upon it (thanks to you!!) I 'm loving it again. I was at that spiritual place then & have been searching ever since and making progress. Beautiful album!! THANKS
Amazing Spiritual connotations evident in several of the songs on this album without any reference to scripture. Realization is absolutely the most complete record album to ever capture the emotions of any particular time period as we REALIZED in the late sixties! All time best effort by JR!
Yes, I agree knowing that Johnny Rivers is a born-again Christian. Not the popular way to go in Hollywood - but Johnny know Jesus :). Check out his 1971 Homegrown album. Johnny is just great and this his BEST album and I've followed him since 1964 - I'm 65 years old. Roger C.
jab353 Howdy...Johnny Rivers is a very private guy, hates publicity, etc. I have followed him from 1964. He is a nice person - and I appreciate fellow believers saying it like it is. In Hollywood, to be a born-again Christian - the established stars like Johnny Rivers and Jon Voight can say how they feel as they need them. Johnny Rivers is 7 years older than me and still can sing so beautifully. God Bless, Roger C. Matthew 6:19
jab353 i wwould have to say this is my favorite especially the 'the material things' IT HIT ME DURING THIS SONG WHAT HE OWNS IN THE MUSIC BIZ AND THAT IS WHEN HE REACHES FOR "ALL" i KNEW IT BUT IT NEVER REALLY HIT ME. THE BEST DESCRIPTION FOR JR IS the "CHAMELEON"
Yes, Johnny Rivers recorded Classics and should be in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I have his LP "Anthology," on Cassette including the "Realization" LP this Single was off, including, "Going back to Big Sur; Look to your Soul, Summer Rain & A Whiter Shade of Pale."
To my earliest man crush: I think you should re-release this song, perhaps triple it write a few new verses. You still get my heart all twitterpatted! Hope you're well and feeling great!
Thank you. Been looking for this song for a real long time. This song is so true now as it was when it was released. I listen to song many times through out day. I"m back in 68 again Ft. Meade .
Found this lp at goodwill the other day. Was pleasantly surprised. This song is totally a Marty robins gunfighter ballads and trail songs type of tune, but the anti war version. The formula reminds me of Utah Carol and they’re hanging me tonight. Pretty dang good.
Wow! Wore out my vinyl copy many years ago, and have been looking for it ever since. Just occurred to me to try here! Bless you tube! Got great memories and goosebumps!
Was fingering my stack the other day and ran across this L.P.. This song hit me right between the eyes just like it did the 1st time I heard it. This type of music isn't made anymore.
His name is Joe Osborn. He invented a peculiar way of play the bass guitar. You also hear his bass on Mamas & Papas, Association, Scott McKenzie and many other artists records.
