I first heard this when I bought the album back in the 60s. Since I now have access to YT and variations of almost any song, I've checked this Jimmy Webb song out by others. Johnny's is the best IMO. It has the right tone. Tom Jones, Glen Campbell (not in the 60s but around '80), 4 Tops, Roberta Flack, B.J. Thomas, Ronnie Milsap and others have done it. BJ and Ronnie are closer to to Johnny's version and they both are generally considered country. I'd have liked to have heard Eva Cassidy do it.

I miss songs about love. Now we have people without talents who use computers and sing almost naked and that's supposed to turn anyone on? 🙄

This 1967-1968 album "Realization" by Johnny Rivers accentuates the deeply troubled and turbulent demonstrations and riots of that decade, with protests against America's involvement in the Vietnam war era. The album also emphasizes the vanities of the "counterculture's" hallucinogenic drug advocacy. The 1960's was a decade of sheer, heightened lawlessness! The real appeal for me about this album was Rivers's coming to his senses to "realize" just how dangerous hallucinogenic drugs can be as Rivers states "I nearly lost myself ..." This song's title "Look To Your Soul ([for the answer])" is a call for self-introspection (to look inside oneself). As for the music I find to my liking River's inviting Marty Paich's employing "strings and horns" in addition to his band. Other heightened consciousness songs causing one to contemplate and possibly change one's lifestyle are: "The Way We Live," "Going Back To Big-Sur," "Something Strange," and "Positively 4th Street."

"Do you wanna dance?" "Do You Wanna Dance?" "Do You Wanna Dance?"
