Really glad you could enjoy my donation, Johnny. I'm make sure to try and give you another game this year. I'm also really glad you enjoyed Psychonauts, one of my favorite games. It's competing against Ristar for my all-time favorite platformer. I made sure to prepare for a roasting just in case, but luckily, I had no heartbreak. 2 side notes to anyone who's getting the game: Eric Wolpaw, the writer for the Portal series, worked on this game, so there's your explanation for the complete hilarity that occurs here. And 100% completion does grant you more than bragging rights; at rank 90 and 95, you get regenerating health and infinite ammo, making the game very much a breeze. Not that it matters at that point, I guess, since your at Meat Circus (BTW, Johnny, how DID you get through that without entering Censored Mode? True, in my most recent playthrough, I didn't have nearly as much trouble there, but you were going at it for the first time) And at rank 100, you can watch a special FMV that reveals what happens to a couple of side characters.

This game... man... A great game that nobody played. Oh and it has the rep of being the poster child for the recent failure of innovative games. It's a really fun game and a shame it didn't get much love back then. Nowadays, it has and people are liking it.

I'm so excited for the sequel. I met Richard Horvitz at FanExpo in Toronto in 2018 and he told me about it before they announced the game at E3 2019. My favourite part of this game was Waterloo Land because I'm a huge Napoleon nerd and my Four Time Great Grandfather fought in the Grande Armee at Waterloo

There is also a creepy easter egg inside the game that includes a certain woman with a tragic past that was locked away in her mind.

I played both Psychonauts games in recent times and, boy, do they kick ass!

I was lucky enough to have this gifted to me on steam, around Christmas. Now I'm just saving up for a decent PC so my lil' pisser of a laptop doesn't explode if I try to play it. Anyway, one of your tightest reviews yet.

Tell you one thing my face learning that the same guy who did the soundtrack for Psychonauts Peter Mcconnell is the same man who did the Sly Cooper series soundtrack my mind was officially blown

I played this myself after being recommended by a friend. Gotta say, I think everyone deserves to play it just for the experience alone, it's a rather compelling story and the various tiny details that paint a much larger story (such as the hidden room in Mila's mindscape, boy that was a heck of a mood whiplash) adds so much to the overall experience. I'm surprised you can even get a 101% completion rate on it which unlocks an extra scene, though I personally won't recommend trying to go for a 100% completion since figment cleanup was a hell of a chore, especially in Fred's mindscape *cringe*

I kinda hope Ty the Tasmanian Tiger is in there... It probably isn't, since nobody knows what that game is.

I actually think this is one of the best platformers I've ever played. It was so unique and it reminded me of my childhood and how imaginitive it was. I respect that you think this is just another solid platformer, but to me it's more than that. :)

Johnny, you are my hero. I love every video you make, regardless of wether or not you think a game I like is bad or vice versa. Keep making videos until you can't make anymore, because you are just one of the awesomest people I know! 😄

One of my favorite parts of the game that almost no one touches on is the sheer amount of content that can be so easily missed. For many, this may be a disadvantage, but I think it gives the game a lot of replay value. There are some cutscenes that can only be accessed at a specific time in a specific area when you don't need to be there. That's why some become Steam achivements, such was Maloof's Transformation. There are the bulletin boards that most wouldn't even think to read, and the log in the parking lot too. There are all of the reactions to Mr. Pokeylope, the crow feather, the GPC button, clairvoyance, TK, etc. Also, adorable idle animations, such as dancing in Milla's mind and bowing to the audience in Gloria's Theatre. It feels like a world, not just a sequence of areas you have to get through. Things are happening around the camp, whether you see it or not. Students have stories, and some development that can be entirely missed. It all depends on the gamer's preference. If they're a completionist or simply want to get through it. And what's great is the game is still great without it. It doesn't rely on the extra stuff that no one would notice without a complete walkthrough on IGN, it is just enhanced by it. You can feel the passion when you play, that this game wasn't just rushed out for a quick buck. And that kind of dedication speaks volumes.

I randomly picked this game up during a twenty-minute visit a second-hand video game store that I went to with a friend who lives hours away and I only visit once every couple of months. And it was one of the best decisions I ever made as a gamer.

Pychonauts has run-of-the-mill gameplay with imaginable worlds and great writing.

john i know i'm beating a dead horse hear but the problem isn't necessarily that silver is slow, but that his level design is huge because just like other sonic characters with huge levels, he's designed to be fast and blazing through these levels and running through whole cities, except he isn't. he's probably faster than crash banicoot and this guys, they definitely don't run circles around him. the thing is, they are designed in good levels that compliment their abilities rather than throwing rocks at giant penis monsters.

Such a shame what Tim Schafer has become, being a traitor to the modern media with pushes for Jack Thompson-esque censorship and very poor spending habits for his projects, not delivering on his promises. This was an amazing game, so to see him lose his edge hard sharply is depressing. :/

Welcome to the Under 300 Club, how tough are ya?

I'm glad you got to play this on one of the original console versions, Johnny. I've had the Steam version for some time now, and it doesn't run well (which is typically to be expected from console to PC ports). I've gotten constant pop-up, glitches, and on the first level I wasn't able to continue the game even when I did what I was supposed to in order to complete it.

Psychonauts is one of those games I keep meaning to check out- sort of like what you were talking about at the beginning of the video. I've been a fan of platformers for years, so it seems like this would be up my alley.

I actually sort of freaked out when I played this game for the first time and heard Raz speak because I instantly recognized his voice considering Angry Beavers was one of my favorite Nicktoons growing up.

Megaman Battle Networks were some of my favourite games when I was younger, but never played Battle Transmission, will be looking forward to it

Megaman Network Transmission! Oh YES!! I loved playing that game as a kid!

growing up, Megaman battle network was the only megaman i knew. (anime and games). when i saw the actual megaman with colour changing upgrades - i was confused but intreeged. now i know what reboots and spin-offs are.

Psychonauts is propably my 1st great indipendant decision in life. My parents gave me the oppertunity to get 1 game from the store shelf and it eventually rounded off to a struggle between The Hobbit and Psychonauts. Considering all that I've heard, the Hobbit wouldn't have been an awful choice either, but let's be honest, Psychonauts has more than a handful of qualities to admire. It's also one of the 1st games where I was completely invested in the plot. Before that, story in video games was just that thing I skipped whenever possible or in the case of Kingdom hearts, just kinda didn't pay attention to. This game though roped me in with that cartoony charm. It emmidiately snapped my attention with it's funny jokes and quickly began to engage me by the end, especially by the final stage. It might also be the 1st thread that would get me interested in very psychological stories, a setup I find to be propably my favourite for any pompus, artsy fartsy narrative. Between Pink floyd The Wall and Neon genesis Evangelion, if you wanna impress me with thought-provoking storytelling, the easy way is to center the story around internal turmoil and generally the consepts of the character's psyche.

Hey Johnny! This game made me think of a game that is a major chunk of my childhood. The game is Blinx the Time Sweeper: Masters of Time and Space. If you haven't played this game, I HIGHLY recommend that you check it out. It shouldn't cost that much to get and it is well worth your time and money. Stay awesome! -Origami1105

5:32. If you use the bacon cruller gives you he will say "jump into this guys mind" but, like the door portal, its easy to forget it even exists and since everything up to that point was pretty straight forward. so its easy to forget. So i don't blame you taking time to figure it out.

It might be interesting to consider a future marathon of games that were critical successes but commercial failures. We've already got Psychonauts, so next we could see Okami and... that's all I've got off the top of my head.

Johnny, a tip for Network Transmission. Upgrade the mega buster as soon as you can. Seriously, it becomes broken as hell once it's maxed out.

Also I forgot that Raz voiced Invader Zim, quite possibly due to the fact that I was not a big fan of the show so that may have something to do with it.
