You should use a ball pin hammer for make those stamps. They have a more evenly distributed weight on the head and are used for precision hammer strikes in industry

Would it be easier for you to cast consistent weight bars if you weighted out the raw material before you melted it & just had the exact amount in the crucible before you heated it?

You should look into a more sensitive scale that goes into the thousands on the decimal place.

Great channel and video. I’m in the Marine Corps and I don’t get paid very much but I would still like to start getting into investing in silver. Your videos have helped and have given me insight. I am curious, you mention that you can't just melt 31.1 grams in a crucible and pour it because it leaves graphite pollution, how come eyeballing the silver instead of pre weighing it out avoids the problem? I don't understand. Also, if I use a ceramic dish crucible instead of a graphite one and put pre weighed out shot in it that should avoid that problem correct? Thanks!

Great questions - happy to explain. The graphite is lighter than the silver so comes out with the last parts of the silver as it is poured from the crucible. The first 90% of the pour is clean - it is just the last 10 % that has the graphite. We could indeed use a ceramic dish crucible and use this method but it is a very labour intensive one and also one that we are not very familiar with. I like the way we do it and it yields some lovely looking bars and hey, some free silver for people too!

If you weight your silver beads first than every bar will be the correct weight

Yes, but as I explained in the video the quality of the bar will not look nice. Often you get graphite come out as well as the silver and the simple act of dumping everything out yields a very different looking (and not so nice) bar. It's why we make them the way we do, so they look really nice.

Yes indeed we can - but you then get all the horrible graphite coming out the crucible. By doing it the way I do it allows a nice clean and attractive pour to come out the other end.

lulu0462 I bought brand name sterling table ware and refined it to 99.99+. All the sterling was bought below silver spot. Dissolved it in nitric acid. Dropped out the AG using pure copper. And lastly used electrolysis to get 99.99+.

Do you need a licence to make silver bullions? If so I’ll get one and add it to my collections of licences with include a fishing, sneezing and I also have a licence to cough. Just waiting for them to make a licence to breathe so I can get that as well.

You don't need a licence to make it - you need to have it hallmarked and assay tested if you want to sell it and call it silver. That is the law here in the UK.

Maybe you can help me with a problem I am having. When I see everyone pouring bars their bars look amazing. Last night i was playing with my new to me kiln and just attempting to pour a little 1 ounce bar in 925 my bars just look like trash, worse by far than any of your rejects. Im using a small amount of flux, im getting it nice and hot, im warming my graphite mold, im pouring fast but not crazy fast. What am I screwing up? is my silver too cold? not pouring fast enough? It just seems like it gets into the mold and just instantly cools into these ugly unamalgimated blobs. Help?

925 silver always pours like this, you want to try using 999 silver it has much better proporties for pouring and will get the same results I do!

No worries, glad to help. It is the fact that 925 silver oxidises a lot quicker so it's cooling rate is vastly increased

@@BackyardBullion that would be due mostly to copper content correct? I ended up getting some better pours using the map gas method but one of them has a copper color on the top. Im thinking I heated it up so much that some of the copper separated out? Short of refining with a silver cell is there a less work involved way to get it to 999? pretty much thats it isnt it? Ive messed around with smelting a little in the past but it was typically with aluminum....which is easy by comparison.

Why don't you put a tray on the scale and tare it to 0; then you can premeasure your 31.1 min grams of shot instead of the trial and error method you appear to be suing?

funny how the people overseas are so scared of their government they will not stamp things. one thing I am glade of wear I live is I do not have to worry about this. and places that do a lot of stamping actuley own a computer for testing and print the report selling it with the item.
