I am 32 now. I graduated from BMT on 29th Dec 2022. I had 98.5% on my overall PT score all because I was mentally and physically prepared. Everything you are saying is true. The kids in my dorm fell on me for advise and how to cope with the stress of BMT. I will graduate from tech school 7th Feb, 2023. At tech school I have received the academic ace award for scoring 100% and 95% on my block 1&2 tech. I am heading to my duty station in McGuire. I’m thankful to you for your videos and tips. @@iViCMychael You can do it man! I'm also 27. I take the asvab this weekend! A few years ago I was 245lbs. Now I'm sitting at 172 about 10-15lbs from defined abs for me at 5'8". Slightly visible already. What helped me was finding a way to eat the foods I like, while keeping the calories down, the protein high and my stomach full. To do this it just requires some substitution along with some work in the kitchen. Food come first. No matter how much you work out, if the calorie consumption is over the amount that you burn you wont lose weight. You may even get discouraged and see your weight go up because you may pack on muscle that you can't see. I highly recomend checking out James Remington and others who preach the same principles while showing you what works for them. His videos made all the difference because I love food and it doesn't feel like a diet. Only reason I haven't reached my goal yet is because i'm not perfect and have gotten lazy on multiple occassions. If you can stay consistent 90% of the time. You will make plenty of progress! Whether you join or not there is nothing that feels better than feeling good about yourself! Anybody can become the best version of themselves with the right game plan!

#1 tip should actually be to document every injury while in...everything from allergies, sinus, headaches, ringing of the ears, to neck strain at the gym. As a prior Marine who served in combat operations, one of the biggest misconceptions is that VA is only for combat injured vets. That's like saying the GI Bill is only for combat vets. I was lucky enought to have the right symptoms documented by my corpsman and on my post-deployment questionnaires. Unfortunately, lots of active personnel don't understand this (as I didn't either - just got lucky) and it makes a big difference when filing for VA disability. It's easier to join at 30 than to try to get VA benefits at 40 without any documentation. Going to medical/BAS doesn't mean trying to get out of performing your job. Just say, "I'm not trying to get out of work, but I have this/these symptoms, can you please document them in my STRs. VA compensaiton is the best hidden benefit that they really didn't talk much about when I was in and getting out.

How's it going! I got 88 on the asvab this past week. But I couldn't take the physical because I need a waiver, and I just emailed my recruiter my signature for the application moral statement. At 38 and watching your videos beginning a few years ago, I still was going to go to bmt and try to get in shape there. I haven't worked out regularly in 10 years. But after watching the unlocking your potential video, I'm not going to take a chance and go bmt out of shape. I'm an older person who was born with sensational physical gifts. My mind is more important than my body, and I'm in a great headspace! I developed masterful learning abilities over the last 8 yrs. I practice lifelong learning and being a student of the game in anything I do!

The Air Force is not only hard to get into, but harder to remain in. Not everyone is selected for reenlistment. There's also been programs to reduce ranks where members have gotten pushed out: Palace Chase, Force Shaping, RIFT, and Blue to Green. Seems like after every war there's downsizing. Many troops were married with families and intended on staying until retirement. A DWI is a career-ender. We know not all drunks are bad people. Some just make mistakes. So are disciplines, financial trouble, a bad divorce, dealing with peoples' egos and bad evaluations. You're out. The USAF is big on volunteering. Are you prepared to do this for higher evals? What about after a midnight tour, knowing you have to go in the same night for another midnight. Would you be better or worse off in 4 years if this doesn't work out?

Lol, went through BMT two years ago, at the ripe old age of 35. My takes on this video: -Yeah, definitely get into shape, because the workouts they'll have you doing at BMT will *not* help you for your PT test. -I wasnt the only over-30 guy in my flight, and I wasn't even the oldest. And all of us had our isht together. Sure our MTI's were younger, but we were mature enough to know that they were our superiors. It was the kids right out of high school who all had the attitude problems. All us older guys all agreed, that BMT really could have been like three weeks for anyone over 27. -Definitely get your finances squared away before shipping, because your first paycheck is going to be like $300 (you get charged for all the gear you get issued. It's BS but it is what it is). And even if you enlist as an E3 (whether you go in with college credits or sign a 6-year contract), you dont put on E3 until after you graduate BMT, and thus dont get that E3 pay
@NicoleBermz

You get the pay, just don’t wear the rank until after basic. People who sign 6 year contracts for E-3 don’t get the pay until after they complete tech school or 20 weeks after basic. Whichever comes first.

Looking forward to seeing if I can do Air Force Reserve after my active duty Army contract is up in the next few years. As of now I think the only thing that would make me want to do another contract for active duty Army is if I get married and/or have a kid. I want Air Force Reserve because I want an easier PT test and shorter deployments if I do have to deploy. I have a decently translatable mos (with a few years experience by the time my contract is up) and a bachelors degree in another field, so I'm not worried as much about guaranteed paycheck to have to stay on active duty. At fort sam houston, I've talked to several Air Force people in techschool who are "prior service" (reclasses, instead of initial entry trainees). They all said they don't do early morning formations and their accountability is when they show up to report for school. In contrast, we prior service Army had to do early morning formations, and in the MOS I was in, we had to do another formation at school (TWO morning formations). The prior service Air Force people also said they do their OWN PT. No organized group PT. That sounds sweet as hell to me as an Army soldier rolling in the dirt after standing in the cold in formation for 20-30 minutes. So maybe when you go to tech school as prior service, you'll have the same thing where you don't have to waste a few hours of your morning doing ridiculous formations and useless boring PT when you can use that time for your studying.

I definitely do not recommend anyone joining the military at that late age, especially as enlisted. However, if anyone is that late age and considering joining the military, then yeah, the Air Force probably is a better idea for a branch if you can get in. On one hand, yeah you will be bossed around by a much younger NCO in any branch, but on the other hand, the Army most definitely will treat you more like a little child compared to the Air Force. Believe me, I'm Army and I've been in school recently with Air Force and Navy along with other Army. The Navy is somewhere in the middle while the Army is at the bottom. I've seen initial entry (people who were straight from basic training) Army soldiers in their thirties who had to have "battle buddies" around them pretty much *EVERYWHERE* because the Army doesn't trust you to do *ANYTHING* not even going to the damn restroom by yourself. Meanwhile a 19 year old Air Force kid gets treated more like a grown up. And that's not "the grass is greener on the other side" Even the Army sergeants will tell you that's how Army rules are compared to the other branches. I've seen thirty year old Army guys complain about how they have to get treated like children while the other branches people half their age get treated more like adults. If you have a family, you'll probably be away from them more in the Army because often you'll have to go to the field for weeks at a time without being able to be in contact with them. Plus we have longer (longest) deployments. if you're not married, expect to be in the barracks for potentially several years longer in the Army (maybe E5 but not guaranteed till E6, probably six to ten years) than an Air force member who's guaranteed at most just three years to be in the dorms. All this on top of the extra physical demands. So if you're going to join the military at an older age, you might as well consider the Air Force first and foremost instead of the Army.
