@@generalinbox3740 the age difference of me being older for my rank. But promotions come quicker. Your "boss" can waive standard promotion requirements if you kick ass. It's pretty easy to stand out in a good way when almost all of your battle buddies are 18-25 and you're pushing 40 (maturity level & work ethic). I have no complaints. 👍

I’m 27 and signed this month as a 68w in the Guard. Had my first drill today and felt really old with all these 18 years old 😑😂 BUT very little of them couldn’t meet PT and did not get the job they wanted because they did not have the confidence to advocate for themselves. I’m very glad I joined now, I’m older and more confident and I know what I want. So ready for basic in November!

36 and I leave for basic in a month. Never finished college, and I've spent most of my life playing in bands and working whatever jobs I could find. My local music scene really slowed down after covid, playing in bands just wasn't going anywhere, and I experienced a not so great job change at the end of 2023, so I decided to join the National Guard. I'm pretty excited tbh! I cleaned up my act and I've been working on PT stuff like doing lots of push-ups and running, which is getting easier, and I'm bracing myself for what's going to be a huge change in lifestyle for me. It's going to be tough, but I look forward to crushing it! Older guys can get it done too!!! Thanks for making videos like this. I've been consuming lots of Army content as of late, and this channel has become a favorite of mine. Cheers!

I'm 28 right now and joining. I really didn't want to when I was younger, I didn't have any desire at all. But for some reason about 1-1 1/2 years ago I started kind of getting the urge to go. But my wife didn't like the idea. But met a friend now that was a Ranger, another friend that's currently serving... didn't take long for them to talk me into going in. I'm wanting to go is as a 35P cryptologic linguist. I already speak 1 foreign language fluently, maybe I'll go in with another language. But I feel like right now I'm much more prepared for the military at 28 than when I was 18-21, I've lived in another country, I've worked jobs of 50+ hours per week, physically demanding jobs. I'm just a lot more physically and emotionally mature now
@Aknight292

None of those stupid excuses about being older so you can't work out.

I’ve been commissioning in the AF since I was 26, I just turned 28 in Feb and am tired of waiting around for a non-rated board to come up and I might not even get selected since I have a comm degree. So! I gave myself a July deadline to enlist and I’m still trying to decide Army or Air Force. I’ve heard all the reasons why or why not from both branches, but something about the Army speaks to me more. The level of discipline is higher from the outside looking in and their jobs appeal more to me. I’m looking for that shell shock environment and idk if the AF could provide that for me. More money because of BAH and BAS? Sure. But the Army let’s you pick your job and sign for it. (My job currently has a $30k bonus). Knowing 100% what my MOS will be outweighs the extra $$$ the AF could give me. The ONLY thing keeping me second guessing is the fact that at 28 years old, I’ll be in the barracks. I guess I have to let go of my pride lol

I'm 28, i moved from Korea last year as a permanent resident. I was a Korean Marine for 2yrs in Korea. And then worked as a Nurse in ICU of Hospital. But i had to move to USA with my wife. now I finished ASVAB, physical test to join US army. I'm gonna get the job 68W or 91B soon. It would be interesting and exciting even tho i already had degree for nursing!Doing what i want is the best for my life. And the point is Age doesn't matter! At least in USA🇺🇸 cheer up for older people like me 😂

Cool. I was even older when I enlisted. Still though, is it possible for you to get another kind of mos other than either 91bravo (wheeled vehicle mechanic) or 68 whiskey combat medic? I ask this because while pretty much all jobs have things about them that suck and while pretty much all jobs have long hours,. Wheeled vehicle mechanics have it pretty rough in the hot or cold motorpool all day everyday and it is arguably more stressful than quite a few other mos are. And in the army, this is all still after a hard early mornings work of pt, which maynot only be physically demanding but also pretty ridiculous (army does nonsense for pt which is why you'll hear people who like to workout saying they don't care for army organized pt) . Being married, you might not want to be THAT much more exhausted and stressed out when you go home after duty. As for 68w keep in mind that while you may get assigned to working in a clinic helping people sign into dick call, lots of 68 whiskeys, especially if assigned to a combat support hospital (which I've been assigned to before) end up doing the same nonsense as so many other soldiers in the army: screwing around a motorpool emptying and laying out connex (storage sheds) followed up by sweeping and cleaning the company building and being bored out of their minds waiting to be released by 1700. As the word "combat" in the name "combat medic" indicates, you'll never actually be doing your job unless you are actually deployed in a combat zone. So that's why you'll be spending most of your time doing the nonsensical stuff I just mentioned (along with everyone in a while sitting in the woods for a few weeks at a time). Being an older guy I doubt you'd want to be scrubbing toilets and treated like a little kid because you're coming in as a lower rank. I'm not telling you what to do, but as an older joiner, have you thought about other medical type mos (that would actually have you DOING your job like a 68e or a 68q or 68g), or anything else other than the two you listed?

I’m 23, turning 24 next month. I have a 2 year old, and plan on getting married this coming year. I’ve been helping my mom pay off her house after my dad (he was also an army veteran) passed back 2021, all she has is 6 months left to pay. I make fairly good money, about 3,000 a month. Won’t have much bills to pay after my mom’s home is paid. I realize I can save a ton of money if I stay with her a couple more years, or I could just join the army but, obviously I’d get less money. However, I’ve had a desire to join the military since I was a teen.

The Army standard is 180 (60 in each event) I am an older person, I could solidly get a 210. The problem is that Officers working with NCO's have this thing about having a higher PT standard. But STOP. STOP it. If the standard is too low, then talk to congress. If you want a higher a standard, train it for every Soldier. That might take time away from layouts or the motor-pool Monday. Fact, none of the deficiencies are ever getting fixed in garrison. If deployed, takes about two weeks. )

Better shape. Brotherhood. I’ve had a girlfriend for 2-3 years, she had a child before we met but she says she is totally open for me to join.
