Hello, I'm from Taiwan I have a question to ask, how to grade the joint play when we were in the testing ? Is there a scale that to tell us whether our joints are too tight, too loose, or normal? Thank you so much.

Could you guys do any videos explaining how to locate and palpate certain areas e.g. Bony features, muscles and tendons? That would be great!
@Physiotutors
@Physiotutors 8 лет назад
+ADDERS Hi Adders! We are planning to do videos about applied anatomy (and how to find a palpate structures) in the future. Our focus at the moment is however still on assessment, because there is still so much more to talk about! A product we both think is great is the "Trail Guide to the Body" which is a book including a DVD.

Hi Kai, what the exact purpose of joint play? Why do we perform it? As part of joint mobilization?
@Physiotutors
@Physiotutors 8 лет назад
Hey kar, the aim of joint play is to assess the capsule through movements that are not possible to be actively performed by the patient (e.g. Tractions, glides). These movements are small (roughly 4mm in each direction) but they are essential for proper joint functioning. The joint play modalities can also be used as treatments. Hip traction for example is pretty popular for hip arthritis

I have a question for you smart people! If you’re doing a posterior glide and you feel limitation does that mean their flexion or internal rotation is bad. Also if you notice that their anterior glide is bad does that mean their external rotation and extension may be bad? Thank you!
@Physiotutors
@Physiotutors 5 лет назад
Hi Marija, it is tempting to couple an osteokinematic movement (limitation) with an arthrokinematic limitation, which often go hand in hand in practice. So in case of limited internal rotation in the zero position, we often see a limited dorsal capsule, same with external rotation and ventral capsule. However, there is also research out there that for example shows that posterior glides improve external rotation: Johnson et al. (2007):www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17416123 So it's never that straight forward... Flexion is a spin movement of the joint btw., so no particular part of the capsule is stretched.

What if there is excessive movement on one side??

Hey guys, great videos. what kind of clinical information can you deduce from these tests. Is decreased play more significant and an over-lax capsule?

Hi thanks for excellent video. What grade of oscillation to use to assess glide. I am pretty sure you are using grade one distraction. waiting for your reply
@Physiotutors
@Physiotutors 6 лет назад
Oscillations are a treatment technique to decrease pain. During an assessment we are interested in the amount of distraction or translation.

Hi :) what about the fixation of scapula to make this mobilization more precision?
@Physiotutors
@Physiotutors 5 лет назад
Hi Tomasz, the scapula is fixated by the weight of the patient.
@tomaszpacut8590
@tomaszpacut8590 5 лет назад
From my practice i think that it is not enough :) try to fix it by the passive move of kaudal direction before mobilization :) hava a good day

Hi, so why do we do traction and distraction? What are the benefits for the patient? :) Thanks

Mainly used in a very reactive joint with high frequency to decrease pain

Is there any exs for a ulnar nerve subluxation ? And triceps syndrome ? What imaging tests do you suggest to know the difference. Been to different therapists who had diffeeent opinion. Ulnar nerve subluxation bs triceps syndrome

Hey Marianne, we've never come across these pathologies during our education or practice to be honest. Maybe you wanna have a look into this research article: www.researchgate.net/publication/244912943_Snapping_Triceps_Syndrome_A_Review_of_the_Literature
