I realize the choreography is also way more interesting with two females, while jojo is given more of the male part because she is taller than jenna, I enjoy that they switch between the parts and the dance feels more equal and dynamic as a result. Sometimes male choreo feels like they are just there to do lifts and showcase the female.
I feel like this could be studied in academia honestly. Ballroom type dances are known for usually having very strict form and it does come with some sort of social conservativeness that feels kind of inherent to it, to the point where I do think some people have a hard time imagining anything buy male-lead woman-follow paring. It would be interesting if someone would analyse specifically how moves subvert or potentially uphold the conventions (waltz seemed to be the most conventionally danced since they actually took prince and princess roles even in presentation). I found the redemption tango fascinating when they did the mirrored steps. It worked so well that if you were just looking at the feet it seemed almost like a mirror! I have a feeling like you actually couldn't have that look as good with male-female. Or when one takes a leading role only for the other to repeat it right after!
Guess what? I didn’t have Black Barbies growing up or Black dolls.. Guess what else? I didn’t see beautiful Black women on tv or in magazines like I seen white women! I didn’t have the representation I needed for my development as a young Black girl growing up in the late 70’s and 80’s.. You’ll be okay! 🤷🏽♀️
@@ItsHuntersChannel Based on your comment to me, you must be white and/or LGBTQ! Cause it’s obvious you don’t relate to my experience.. FYI.. I’m doing well in life.. I just stated my experience like the original commenter did! 🤷🏽♀️
@@emmachilderss And? I’ll say the same to you. You must be white and/or LGBTQ. You identify with the original commenters comment, but not mine?! Typical! 🙄
I’ve watched a lot of dancing with the stars and I think Jojo has to be not only one of the most skilled contestants but the most entertaining! I love every single dance from her. They never felt repetitive. I also felt real connected to the representation because I’m not only queer but I’ve only enjoyed dancing with other women as well. I’m so sad she didn’t win. But I hope Jenna takes home an Emmy for best choreography!
Honestly, the past 2-3 seasons have felt kind of like a drought, in terms of the passion put into the overall season. People like Jojo, Amanda, Jimmie, Iman & the Miz brought the fun and awe back! Jenna would definitely deserve an Emmy for quite a few of these dances! Although, if she was nominated, she'd probably be up against Derek; his horror night performance with Hayley was very good, don't get me wrong. But it def felt like a bid to repeat the Emmy win from their paso doble from last season. And regardless of the somewhat mixed feelings of Iman's win over Jojo (and also Amanda); Daniella's choreo was standout this season too. But I LOVE that there were this many standouts; we weren't coasting thru each episode for one good/decent performer! I wouldn't be surprised if both Jenna & Daniella get even more recognition in the dance industry for their work this season!
@@Jcsj_ she had dance experience, this is ballroom dancing. jojo has never trained in ballroom. all styles except ballroom so yes she did have a small advantage as she was a dancer but never trained in ballroom which this competition is ballroom
@@emily-rn9ti as a dancer who trained in jazz for 13 years and then moved to ballroom, i can tell you that she still had a huge advantage. the advantage can be seen especially in her contemporary and freestyle performances which aren't limited to ballroom. almost anyone who hasn't danced before wouldn't be able to keep the beat, be confident performing, learn choreography quickly and grasp technical skills (even small ones i.e. pointed toes) as much as jojo can because she had already spent years training to get those skills in other styles. To add to that, she still has an insane skillset (e.g. double pirouettes, stag leaps etc) that she was able to use throughout every dance and her flexibility is still incredible. It can take a while to complete a double pirouette and can take years to complete one with good technique so nobody with zero previous dance experience would implement one in their performances. She absolutely still improved over the course of the show and deserved to be there, but you can't deny the advantage that she had.
I don't think that anyone is appreciating the fact that Jojo was not only doing the male/female part of the dance, but she was also doing lifts and everything on heels! Much respect!
Omg ..... it is amazing. She was probably thrilled to dance with another professional. Remember, jo jo had to learn dances in just a few days weekly for competitions.... These were amazing dances for sure
YAASSSS! Thank you for recognizing that. Her choreography was amazing and because of that Jojo shines in every single dance they did together. Jenna is super talented and clearly very athletic. Jojo is star material but that is a LOT of work.
If the winners were determined by score instead of vote Jojo and Jenna would have won. They were the most entertaining and had the best chemistry and choreography.
I honestly feel like you’re right. They literally got 40’s multiple times because they were so good. But some people don’t like the idea of two women dancing so they didn’t vote for them. Also known as homophobia. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t think I am.
@@CommanderCodey if homophobia was so strong throughout the voting of Dwts I doubt she would've come 2nd. If anything the representation would help with voting (along with the great dances) since usually, & I say this is why she didn't win, people don't like when celebrities who have professional dance experience appear on these shows. Guarantee if she had been paired with a guy and had danced just as phenomenally, she wouldn't be in the final because the public would just be complaining about the unfair advantage she had.
@@neadod2902 It’s probably a mixture of both if we’re honest here. Tho, I know a majority of people who are prejudiced would use that excuse as a guise
I totally agree with you. JoJo is one of my favorites on this show and I have to say her grace and her technique in her dances were absolutely amazing. The two of them together have a crazy chemistry when they are performing together it really feels so good. She should have won in my eyes but I am more than happy that Iman had won this season because he had lots of charisma, confidence and swag. The clarity of movement and his partnership with Daniella is so good.
Honestly you can see how much JoJo and Jenna improved from the start of the season too the end. With their movements and costumes. You can also see how in their theme nights you can see how their characters represent friendships. And how good they are, the grease night is an example.
Facts anyone saying that she had no improvement is clearly blind af and probably knows nothing about dance. She was easily the best dancer of this competition despite not being the one with the most experience. She was also playing the man’s role and doing some intense lifts despite being 18 yet no one seems to care about that either
@@ste.p3209 It’s nice that you care but there are a lot of others who sadly don’t and continue to bash her unjustly. I was never a fan of hers but after seeing the amount of hate she gets despite her dance skills I really feel like she was robbed and underappreciated
I honestly feel like she should have won.... She is having such a good time you can tell she's a great dancer and I just love watching them dance together it's beautiful
I feel like the reason why they didn’t win is because the “point” of DWTS is to take people who are somewhat good at dancing and seeing them improve over the weeks. But JoJo didn’t improve as much as others because JoJo has already had tons of experience dancing and is really good.
Even tho jojo didnt win she is already a winner and the mirrior ball would have just been a plus jojo slayed this show and she had fun and thats all that matters
This was amazing! As far as LGBT+ representation goes, to me, it was just as important for Jenna to fully embrace her role in this female-only duo as it was for Jojo to get to stand up and represent the LGBT+ community. Jenna put her whole heart into this. Not only do we need LGBT+ representation - we also need good allyship representation!
Tbh I didn’t see any of this as LGBTQ+. I saw two friends who are good ally’s dancing together and having fun. Two woman dancing is completely common in the dance world but some shows may not focus in that.
OMG this is SOOOO good, Jojo just got better and better each week, absolutely brilliant. Jenna's dancing and choreography is unbelievable. This duo made season 30, they are the real winners mirror ball or not...
@@chileyork you'll come to find that people who tend to cry about seemingly silly or random things are the people who have had real life struggles already or are currently facing them 💛💚🖤💜
I watched a bunch of dance shows growing up. I always liked them, but they only ever had straight couples dancing together. It always felt like there was something missing. This is what was missing. I’ve never seen two women do a ballroom lift. It gave me absolute chills. This was beautiful.
@@maryduke1018 Samee, that would be just awesome, I love dancing even if I'm not that good at it, but I do enjoy dancing and doing it with a girl would be perfect.
@@maryduke1018 it's actually pretty common in dancing jut not in televised ballroom dancing. Some of my favorite duos I've ever done are always just us gals. Somehow the male partners and I just don't rlly look great lol
Honestly? I prefer watching girls dance over guys, the girl always seems more like the main of attraction or the focus, the girl feels like she always does the cooler moves, so TWO girls, both taking the lead and the "spectacle" part is awesome and so much more fun to watch
Some of these had me so emotional! I love seeing the masculine and feminine duality in both Jojo and Jenna. It really reveals the capabilities and energy held within women. I love it!
She so should of won!! Her scores were so much higher than everyone!! Like in 8 DANCES IN A ROW she got 40, 40, 39, 39, 40, 40, 40, 40!!!!! Like wtf!! How did she not win!! She stole the show every week!! She got absolutely robbed of that Mirrorball!!
She was already a dancer… if they had two categories one for dancers/background in dancing then yes she should’ve won, but it’s for amateurs ppl with no experience
@@flamingkitten1 exactly. Jojo was already a dancer and people are mad because I said she didn’t deserve to win because she had an advantage of understanding dance and the technical pieces even if it wasn’t a dance she was trained in.
I think it's because if she did people would be saying she had it in the bag just because she had been on dance moms. She's still a winner regardless. If they do dancing with the stars all stars and she comes back then bring it OONN ❤️😎
Both these women are so strong! Jojo for constantly being able to lift support Jenna effortlessly. And Jenna for the absolute control over her body and ability to make herself seem as light a feather.
Jojo had told Jenna she would NEVER let her fall. Jenna got them exercising a lot so they could do lifts and other physical moves like the guys. And when Jenna slipped on Jojo's skirt, Jojo held her up. YAY
Watching 2 women dance together is simply breath taking. Jojo made me a fan after this. She is super talented. Jenna did amazing with the choreo. Taking on a new challenge and making it memorable for all the right reasons. Fantastic job, both of them.
Can’t say enough about Jenna’s choreography. Such a beautiful job spotlighting Jojo, switching seamlessly between parts, highlighting Jojo’s athleticism and stage presence…this assignment came with a lot of expectations and she crushed it
Most people only got back to watching because of Jojo and Jenna. Watching Jojo grow up was amazing, this girl is a star. And please someone for an award for Jenna this woman has shown many times that she is one of the best if not the best choreographers on the show. They deserved this award, they loaded the program.
How was this even competition, this was the JoJo Jenna show and I'd pay for it!!!! I don't watch DWTS never have but I watched this compilation riveted, if she didn't win it was robbery, this was INCREDIBLE!!
Jojo should have won 100% she and Jenna were the only reason I got into dancing with the stars. Jojo and Jenna were the best couple and they deserved to win. Even they didn’t get the trophy I think we all know they won in heart at least I do 😊.
Well they didn’t 🤣🤣🤣 na am playing tbh she was really good in this but I guess what was also a part played is that she is and always has been a dancer so it was a huge advantage for her… I loved all her performances though every single one.
I disagree because she was never trained in Ballroom before the show started and she deserved it as much as everyone else. Everyone did good. So I felt that she should have won too. But regardless of a rank doesn't determine who anyone so she's still a winner always regardless of a rank.
JoJo is the one who inspired me to take dance classes! After 27 years of living, I discovered that I LOVE to dance 😂 It’s all thanks to JoJo! She makes it look so fun!! And it is 😮
To be honest, Jojo and Jenna should have won. They were the most talented dancers in the whole competition and had the best scores overall. Love you. They rocked it till the end. Cannot wait for next season!!!!!!!! :)
watching the dance off with the rumba at 12:32 was captivating but the contemporary at 15:20 was out of this world, it's so fucking beautiful and my absolute favourite. the lifts? the passion? the dips? it was everything!
Yesssssssssss. I haven't enjoyed watching 2 people dance since 7 years ago, Meryl Davis. The dancing, joy, chemistry, talent, and choreography was STUNNING! Jenna deserves an emmy award! I only watched this year because of them.
Totally agree! A lot of the other dances felt like they were just dancing next to each other but this one they were really cohesive and the dance song and costumes were really beautiful.
I disagree I’m sorry! I love Jojo but she was GOOD from the beginning. Iman literally grew and improved incredibly. His foot work, posture, etc. you can even see it in the scores. Jojo from the BEGGINING was already getting 8-9-10, while Iman went from pretty low scores to all 10s! I really think Iman and Daniella deserved the win. Also having an ex dancer defeats the purpose of the show, which is the shows fault not Jojo.
@@motivationwave1525 yea but there are similar styles of dance to ballroom. I used to dance, and yes ballroom is difficult, but it’s definitely not the same experience for everyone. Someone who has even dance before will have an advantage
It's amazing to watch this and then see the comments from haters claiming she didn't grow over the course over the season when it is shown so beautifully in this video. Thanks OP for compiling this! Did anyone notice how Jenna had JoJo confidently enter on her own in both her finale performances? The only sole intro for her besides that was the vulnerable entrance for the grease foxtrot so it felt significant that Jenna did that. It was like she wanted to showcase Jojo's new found confidence and how bright of a star she is and I really love that she did that. What a great partnership! I was rooting for them to win but seeing the joy on JoJo in their two finale performances was a win in and of itself.
Some people don't like Jojo's energy, her "big" personality. I find it lovely ! She feels joy, happiness and isn't afraid to express it. She is so appreciative to others and grateful. It's sweet and fun to see how excited she is over this show and life in general. Aren't we supposed to feel joy and be grateful? I look forward to seeing her move forward and see what she accomplishes in the future. I'm actually a senior and it makes me feel happy to witness such a joyful person who so enjoyed dancing.
JoJo should've won. Seems like they punished her for being a professional dancer because she and Jenna were TOO good -- they were a powerhouse team of two fully-trained professional dancers. They were awesome.
She danced as a child and it had been years since she was dancing in competition. I agree they were somewhat prejudiced against for her previous dance work. For me, there is no shame in placing in this show, 2nd is wonderful, too.
I love her contemporary but lowkey my favorite might have to be her Cha-Cha from week 2. Definitely not her best dance technically but the energy is just so good
Okay but like, Jojo is fucking incredible. The strength and versatility she displays being the leading partner is so unique. The dynamic between the two of them is 🔥
I love the dances, what i love more was the fact that people thought JoJo and Jenna were a couple because Jenna is 27 and married to someone else on DWTS.
As a 28 year old bi fem, this made me legitimately cry. I wish I had Siwa as a roll model back in the days where I was scared to be masculine in times where it felt right. .. This is fantastic. What an amazing person to represent diversity.
I really like the villain night. It was so powerful and just... explosive! But other dance is really so good too! The chemistry, the sexiness, the fun, it's like it just doubled compared to typical male-female partners. I would really vote them as my most favorite pair
Jenna was putting moves together that were so perfect and looked great together. When they would move across the floor it was Not awkward or had gaps because she filled it with great dancing moves. Just flawless.
The way she was absolutely robbed of the win. In my heart she and Jenna are forever the winners , this video doesnt lie, and neither do the jury and our hearts. Also, there s so much that they do that opposite sex dancing partners cant do(those are absolutely boring), I was absolutely stunned by the way they d swap lead during the tangos so easily; the way they both enrich each other and show each other , its not a one way thing; the absolute elegance that opposite sex dance partners lack; they literally floated on the waltz...i could go on forever, but the whole point is as a lesbian im stunned by what they did and im glad they have opened the doors to many opportunities for lgbt people who dance or have the dream to do so who didnt get to see this sort of thing while growing up, or before JoJo and Jenna or simply gifted such beautiful moments to our community to remember; in itself watching two women dance on such a famous competition TOGETHER is already a massive win.
Why even have an America's vote then? There's no growth with her as she was already professionally trained this was the issue I had with Charli dimilio and why I was kind of annoyed when she won Iman started from scratch and I find that way more endearing in a partnership set aside that it was the first same sex duo she would've done just as well with a male pro DWTS is supposed to be about taking someone with little to no experience and turning them into a certified dancer and JoJo was already that besides that she didn't even have the dance of the season Iman did on horror night between that and Iman having the backing of his wife and lebron James it's not that surprising she loses
The choreography was more interesting with them, more versatile and more fun to watch. I loved how comfortable they looked with each other whereas sometimes with a girl and a guy they can look a little stiff. You can sometimes see some nerves, but these two looked really at ease with each other :)
Sincerely, I think Jojo would deserve to win for her consistency, wonderful dances, for being the first same sex couple, etc. I do not say Imann did not deserve to be in the finals, but Jojo is miles better in all her dances. Imann was focused more in liftings than dance. For sure he had a great choreographer, but not compared by Jojo. One more unfairly result from DWTS
Jojo was better because she had more experience with dance. They picked Iman because he improved by a lot. Jojo didn’t improve because she was already good. The point of the show is to put a pro with a inexperienced person. Jojo was experienced. It was fair the Iman won
@@L4Z_ Yes she was good in the beginning but there is obvious improvement. It might not be seen as clearly by people with untrained eyes to dance but there definitely was. Not only did she take on a whole new role as the lead, which comes with its own difficulties, but she also executed lifts as well. I would say Jojo did more improvement. When you're bad in the beginning the only way forward is just a straight line ahead, however, if you're experienced and already reached a certain level that way up to improvement becomes 10 times as steep.
@@L4Z_ if that is how they are judging then why put her in the competition in the first place??? that is like telling that she would never win it from the start.
Jojo had the most creative performances she totally deserved the win 🥇 this girl is amazing her personality is unique and I’m glad that she is turning into a mature woman ❤️
@@PHSDM104 i would consider male/male or man/man even if the persona isn’t. It’s definitely queered so I still appreciate it if it isn’t considered man/man.
I've never watched this show but damn. I didn't know I could be this invested. Had I known I'd have watched! They truly are talented and become better with each dance!!! And Jojo has a feminine grace and a masculine grace depending. She is truly talented!
