My parents weren't as bad as other parents, so I struggled with the idea of X being just as bad as XYZ in the long term. You are not wrong at all. These individuals' parents and agents and entourages do not have their best interest in mind at all. Sure, it is normal to grow up and not want to be seen as a kid, but I don't know who tells them all to go the route of obscene or envelope pushing or whatever other term is used.
