it’s kind of irritating for her to use her queerness as shock value. just rubs me the wrong way, like her being in a queer relationship is her being a “bad girl”? like yeah ig you’re subverting the norm of heterosexuality but it just doesn’t sit right with me
My thoughts exactly. I feel like she is using homosexuality as like her “big bad girl thing” and I think that’s horrible bc we are trying to normalize LGBTQIA+ and people are out here making it look like a huge bad girl crime it’s dumb
it was never released. at first it was produced for miley (probably why jojo is so obsessed with "wanting to rebrand like miley") but the song was scrapped and then given to brit smith, which sang it and made a music video so we know that the lyrics are EXACTLY the same except ONE thing and that is jojo changing the "if ihad one wish i would have never messed around" to f'd around 😭😭😭 i feel like it's fine to use songs this way bcs it's really common but the way jojo is claiming she made the song/wrote the lyrics is just icky
Your comment is the thrift store dumpster version of saying what every single top comment on every single JoJo rebrand commentary video that's been made has already said.
@milly4556 I think the crimes is abusing her child dance crew. Allegedly one of the young kids had a medical condition and she "made"? them dance despite the condition, and to the point where the kid was bleeding? And still made the kid dance through it? And also apparently Jojo was verbally abusive to these kids as well??? Sorry I'm not too informed. I've just been lurking on RU-vid.
It annoys me so much that she references people like Elton John, Michael Jackson, Bowie and Gaga. As if she could hold a candle to any of them. Give me a break!
@@MeowMatee Glad someone else is talking about the vocal performance. Some performers tread a fine line between singing and just shouting lyrics, but JoJo for sure trampled that line.
Miley has a phenomenally powerful voice. I regularly listen to her hard rock covers, shit goes hard Jojo is a dancer... Maybe she should've became a rapper instead lmao, that way you can focus on your visual art without vocal skill
@@mesquitegirl2013 OMFG IM SO HAPPY IM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT NOTICED THIS😭🙏 Fr though and it's disgraceful In my op as a massive kiss fan. She literally looks like the party city version of kiss with that outfit💀💀💀 As a lesbian and a kiss fan I don't claim her and neither is anyone else either it's so funny istg. It's like when corporations do the "hello fellow kids" thing even though it's a board of 60-70 year olds but it's Jojo siwa trying to act like an adult with them wack ass temporary tattoos straight of inkbox.‼‼😭
"im flattered that anyone would compare me to that" , she says, being The Person comparing herself to that. Discount KISS at best, the "rebrand" deflection is just embARASSING
She has no sense of history or anything outside her Dance Moms and bows bubble. Just one note: ELVIS was NOT "the first to not be afraid to be different." Little Richard, among many others, came before him.
Bloody Mozart and Beethoven dared to be different. Let alone Berg and Schoenberg and John Cage. Art has progressed throughout the centuries because people decided to do something different. Otherwise we'd still be listening to the Etruscan period flute
@@Andromyway not a race issue. Elvis did dare to be different in that he was quite sexual for his tie. But he wasn't the first person to be different fro the current genre. Jane Austen was different from her peers
@@MsJubjubbird didnt make it a race issue, hes just a basic white man, the common type of entertainer of his day. And he was barely more sexual, just more popularized. jane austen is irrelevant in this conversation about musicians though
@@Andromyway yes you did. Whether someone is white or black doesn't make them groundbreaking or not. At the time he was very sexual and controversial and his music had more edge to it. Elvis the Pelvis. Remember we're talking decades go.
all of those people she mentioned did great things for the music industry- what has she done? nothing. do not compare yourself to people above you. embarrassing
@@mmarquelno way. She’s definitely delulu enough to believe she’s on the same level as these literal pop superstars. I believe she thinks this is her break out moment and she’ll eventually become like these other artist. Unfortunately for us we have to deal with it while she continues to embarrass herself.
Everything about this "rebrand" feels ungenuine. If this really was the biggest switch we have ever seen, she wouldn't need to tell us. Even her outfit is just what she used to wear before but in black and white..
I mentioned elsewhere: this gives me the same energy as when Build a Bear revealed their 18+ “adult” section on their website and it was just bear clothing with cheeky puns and vague alcohol references 😂
Which when I read somewhere was it song scrapped from the bangers album and was given to Brett and then I read somewhere that JoJo bought it off of her to make it seem like you wrote it is just dumb
@@mesquitegirl2013 it’s literally so insane, like why would you lie to people about writing your song when you bought instead smh. Plus, she’s like obsessed with having a Miley phase like girl please. 😭
I'm just over singers "rebranding" themselves just to be more sexual. I get they want to show that they are adults and want to move on from the kid stuff, but being over sexualize is not what being grown is all about.
It’s how kids think they can look more mature. Adults don’t have to prove they’re mature adults, but kids have to “show” like see I’m mature now because I have sex
Sexuality is a large part of most adult lives. Especially young people who want to explore their identities and express themselves; sexuality and exploring it is a huge part of growing up. I can criticize Joelle Siwa and entertainers all day but not for that.
@@Andromywayit’s not. Many adults choose to not engage in sexual activities. That doesn’t make them less adults or less mature. Maturing is actually realizing sex isn’t even a big deal. People identities are far more complex than their sexual preferences
@@GabrielaReyes-gr2qb yes it is. You can deny it all you want but the vast majority of human adults engage in sexuality. It is a very small minority that do not. Sex is not immature, and it is a very big deal for many. Nowhere did I claim people who choose not to engage in their sexuality immature or less "adult" even choosing NOT to be sexual is an aspect of exploring your sexuality.
Her talking about being obsession with Elvis right after a movie about him came out has the same energy as Gabbi Hanna right after Bohemian Rhapsody came out and being obsessed with Freddy Mercury
When your original no one has ever done this rebrand is conected directly to songs you didn't write just proves the whole smoke curtain thing trying to divert attention from the real problem: abusing kids, just like her mom and Colleen and so on.
I wonder if she defended Colleen because she new she was guilty of mistreating and exploiting children for profit Similar to todrick hall knowing he was guilty
jojo siwa legit stole a smaller artists song, and didnt even bother recording it herself. theres a video of her at a launch party or something saying "i wRote this abOuT mY eX" and its not even her singing.
Yes the song was originally created by Emeline who sold the rights to the song but she didn’t know it was going to be given to Jojo. Emeline’s version is so much better, hopefully she will be able to release it after Jojo’s song drops
Honestly so tired of these people in your shit going “stop talking on women” and trying to make it out like you’re some sort of misogynist and like there’s some sort of disproportion in your coverage of women vs your coverage of men These people regardless of sex or gender and the things they’re doing need to be discussed and they need to be held accountable
I don’t think it’s as bad as people say but I will say at times I feel as though he goes easier on men he covers than the women. Not all the time like some people act like it is.
She doesn’t even kiss any of the girls in the music video😭it’s literally just posing and feeling them up with the most awkward, clumsy looking dance moves
Jojo is a dancer. Not a singer, lyricist, or artist of the same caliber as Miley, Gaga, or Micheal Jackson. Though I guess by using Elvis to reference how he “did his own thing”…..the man that met his future wife while she was 14…yeah, his own thing, sure.
Jojo Siwa had a "scandal" back in 2018 or something when everyone was shocked to find out that she was 15 years old because she dressed and acted like a young child. I know that choice was actually to stretch the amount of time that they could make money from selling those bows, but she defended herself by claiming that being more childlike was her most authentic self too... so did she lie back then, or is she lying now?
I have always wondered as soon as the rebranding happened like why she did it? After I found out from this video and just in general, I’m just so….disgusted? I do not know how else to describe it. This rebrand IS awful!
I feel she’s not relevant enough to have a rebrand. And it feels so so forced. Like when I was in elementary and thought I was “rebel”when I dyed the tips of my hair black. 😂😂😂😂 like girl, no.
Not to mention wrecking ball came from Miley’s soul she was so hurt and destroyed she just didn’t give a fuck anymore. It was such a perfect storm and will never be replicated
THANK you!!!! It made me so mad on H3 they literally didn't mention this when they were talking about her rebrand I was like ummmmm are we gonna address how the "bad thing" she did was literally abusing her dance team??? hello? Thank you Adam we love you
your lil “rant” about the bangerz era was so real, i was 14 at the time and i also got it, i thought it was iconic and i wish she didn’t have to struggle mentally because of that era.. the shit she was getting from EVERYBODY even people she publicly called her idols/inspiration. that era was so iconic and like you said the music is just incredible if you look at that aspect alone. i still listen to bangerz a lot too, i will defend it and protect it till the day i die!
I recommend reading about his musical life; he actually would constantly credit artist in a time where his peers did not. When he was asked how he got his image; he would specifically cite Arthur crudup, fats domino, little Richard etc. At a time where music was very segregated; Elvis was looked down upon because he played music from black artist and frequented black owned clubs and events. There is a Doc called ‘Elvis and the Black Community’ that sheds light on the music and cultural climate of the 50s and 60s and how Elvis fit in to all of that. There are lots of artist of that time that did in fact steal music from black artist; pat boone, The Beach Boys-those who would pass black influence of music off as there own. Where Elvis was different; he recognized where his influence and music came from. His records and his words do cite the musicians who wrote the songs. And in his personal life, he spent money donating to various causes like the naacp and "While they were civil, they never really had much to say and I might feel a chill between them and me. But Elvis was different. I remember him distinctly because he was friendly, polite to a fault, spoke with this thick molasses southern accent and always called me 'sir'. I liked that. When he appeared at the Goodwill Revue, a yearly benefit for needy black kids sponsored by WDIA, he did himself proud. Remember, this was the 50s. So for a young white boy, by then a big, big star, to show up in an all-black function in 1957 took "guts." (Bb. King, autobiography) I’m not saying that appropriation and stealing of black music doesn’t happen, but Elvis is not a good example of such. Also, back to JoJo. EVEN ELVIS WOULDN’T SAY HE WAS THE FIRST. Every time someone would give the credit of being the ‘king of rock n roll’ he was vehement against it; “ A lot of people seem to think I started this business,” said Elvis. “But rock 'n' roll was here a long time before I came along. Let's face it: I can't sing like Fats Domino can.”
Idk if y'all remember this but it kind of reminds me of when m&ms redesigned their characters to distract from the fact that they were sued over child slavery. Obviously this situation is much smaller scale but they both have to do with child labor it seems like.
adam! i wonder if you’d consider doing a dedicated video about Miley and the Bangerz era?! i love your takes on literally everything and ive grown to love Miley Cyrus as we’ve aged together (im one year older than her) and i love her now, but Bangerz had a ton of fetishization and appropriation of black culture, and whit women get praised for being “authentic” i completely agree it changed the conversation around child stars, it changed culture in a lot of ways but it also further harmed POC communities and stigma surrounding them and their relation to wealthy whiteness.. and i totally respect your opinion but id love for you to expand on it, because i do agree it changed the game a lot. amazing video as always ❤
and i love the idea of growing and authenticity that Miley had during that era but it felt planned, at least to me, not by a team but by Miley herself wanting to change (which is honestly more respectable) because she’s completely let go of most of the AAVE, and she got rid of most of those qualities from that time once people realized she was an adult and she made her point right? i could be completely wrong, you know more than i do
tbh it takes a LOT to produce a song, get crew hired and trained for the dances, sponsorships, media posts, and EVERYTHING for a rebrand like this. I'm talking months to a year plus. I do think it is nicely convenient for the news to come out in February and her promotions shortly after. I think that she isn't doing it to cover up the story, but perhaps they accelerated the beginning of the promotion season to showcase the rebrand, but tbh two months is NORMAL. I don't think it was all motivated to cover the scandal here
i saw a vid on tiktok about how someone already recorded karma in like 2012. like EVERYTHING IS IDENTICAL!!!! same melody and words. the only thing that was changed was instead of "effed up", it was "messed up". i just started watching this vid so i'm not sure if it was discussed yet. it's insanely similar
Jojo is unaware how cringey she is. It’s too bad no one in her camp can tell her she needs to take a step back and work on herself before trying to be prolific.
Miley was wronged by the system and fought against it with her rebrand. JoJo was wronged by the system, but she continued to benefit from it and support it. What makes it so fowl is that this girl has her mother and the same people who held her up into stardom in her team. The same people who warped the other other girls in dance moms. She’s not on a bad girl rebel revamp. Not when she’s still being surrounded by the same folk you talk so highly of.
I believe what would have been better is getting back with the Dance Moms girls and doing a 'sexy' dance just like the Irreplaceables did in Season 7 for their last performance.I doubt the Dance Moms girls wish to have any relation with her now so maybe it wouldn't work in her favour. It isn't hard to break the scene without destroying whatever respect people had left for you. Now, you've just made people hate you even more than before. Adam is right; it's clearly a way to distract the media from the lawsuit and allegations of the XOMGPOP group.
