Joker 2 Good, Actually?? 

Well done, sir, I was successfully clickbaited.

If the original was about watching an ordinary man descending into madness, then the sequel was about watching people in a courtroom talking about him descending into insanity, with inexplicable musical numbers.

It was kind of self-indulgent, but did play with some good themes. How people fall in love with a fantasy. When the fantasy dissolves, they move on. (A comment on today’s shallow protest movement?) The musical aspect enhanced this - escaping into fantasy through song. Then there was the whole Jungian, shadow self/NPD/NPD projecting thing, which kind of worked. The court room scene where the little man rips off the Joker mask was the best scene.

I thought there was a pretty clear insinuation that Harley had a hand in the bombing of the courthouse. Her absolute confidence that Joker will "walk right out of prison" wasn't delusional. Consider also that she's rich and well-connected (as shown by the fact that they just let her visit Arthur, in his cell, in solitary). At the very least, she understood the situation in Gotham well enough to know he wouldn't stay locked up for long.

Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga and Leigh Gill all delivered strong performances, far better than the material deserved. It's worth watching for them alone. I actually enjoyed some of the songs as well.

I'll always appreciate bold experiments in the superhero genre like Joker 2 and Glass no matter how much they might not work as films. They add something unique to a VERY stale genre.

Hey, I have been a subscriber for a while, and I have disagreed with multiple of your takes so far (especially the one with The Menu), but I have to say, this one articulated my own thoughts so well. What I would like to add here is my own interpretation of this extremely flawed film screenplay and narrative-wise. I think Phillips was going for a circular narrative where the first film conveyed the inadequacies of an unjust system that breeds insanity and violence. The second film brings the systemic issues down to personal failures and taking accountability for the same. However, even if one takes accountability for being a criminal in such a system, the systemic issues remain, and so will the resulting violence, leading us back to the first film's messaging. This was probably evidenced by Arthur's death at the hands of another deranged victim of an awful system continuing the cycle of violence.

For something so bold a concept as a courtroom drama+love story+musical, the execution was sadly lukewarm. I wish they went harder with it, even if it risked dividing audiences like the first Joker did.

I wanted so much some la la land + joker movie that in my first watch i totaly ignored the big "fuck you" the movie was in reality, until the end... But reality kept coming at me, this was a well made bad movie.

A movie like Joker 2: Still Jonking should not cost more than $10 mil without music licensing. If Phoenix and Gaga and Phillips really are stars people flock into theaters for, they should have no problem working for a percentage of the box office.

Just because a movie has that post modern commentary on a franchise or movie genre doesn’t make it bold or interesting. They’ve been doing it since 2017 really and quite frankly it’s getting old. If anything, a movie in the comic book genre with an original well crafted story is more welcomed than another cheap commentary to add to the pile. That takes real talent and creativity, not just lame commentary that makes certain RU-vidrs feel smarter than they actually are. Nobody even wanted a joker sequel, let alone a musical, but no one wanted a lecture about comic book movies or sequels that we’ve been complaining about already. So they’re not doing anything bold besides giving pretentious RU-vidrs an ego stroke and a middle finger to normal people who actually wanted to give the movie a chance

It's not lying, it's filmmaking

The little story that was there with Harley’s obsession with her idea of Joker was great, what ruined the movie was the awful singing and pacing. Just as you’re getting sucked into the story you’re interrupted by a slow song usually sung by Joaquin in a quiet mumbly voice. It really ramps up in the second half and it just becomes cringy and groan worthy. People literally walked out of my theatre during the singing scenes. The story itself they were trying to tell was definitely them rejecting the first movie but it was still depressingly interesting IMO.. but again, I could never get fully immersed in the story because of the off beat singing.

They hate incels so much they turned Joker 2 into a musical, had him get raped, lost his girl, and then had him shanked in the end. Think about that.

There is no such thing as good or bad movie,music etc ,each one has its own audience (with different levels of accessibility to education ,movies, other artistic medium,even free time,history they were born in to,socio economic influence on that particular demography) In short an adult person who has watched 50 to 100 movies has different likings and dislikes than a different adult person who has watched 1000 plus movies in their lifetime, Also music ,movies are not universal culturally. What i mean is standards to judge and like/diskike and analyse art from a certain culture will not be the same as the movies ,music from different culture. If u disagree with that(u lack materialist understanding of the world) ,then u r a lib or may even a conservative ,but surely not a leftist.

I'm so disappointed, I liked the first joker movie and I like lady gaga. I thought a musical was an odd choice but I accepted it... too bad. But it's just another movie after all.

Love it, hate it, it's just a movie, and if people get angry about it, it's because modern media has taught them they're not allowed to feel joy. i think both the first one and second are kinda boring… however the second one has more interesting concepts but has worse execution than the first…

I thought Joker 2 was good. I feel like the negative reviews are from people who wanted Joker to fight batman. What the movie feels like to me is this “if u even tried to be joker, this could be you. Your followers would turn on u because ur not as crazy as them.” This never happened in the batman universe because I guess Joker was more crazy and powerful. I like seeing a version tht chose to do what’s right. He saw how evil Joker is and was like “I Arthur Fleck, killed all those people” he could’ve been free and lied but he told the truth. Having a Joker admit that he did all the crimes is pretty cool. He felt bad about what he did to Gary Puddles. He felt bad that the other inmate got killed because being the Joker. So he gave it up.

See, I don't think he *is* trying to wipe his hands of the first movie. To me, this movie is the inevitable *consequence* of the first movie. A guy who pulls all the shit Fleck pulls in the first movie *is* going to be arrested and stand trial, and Fleck *was* a horrible person in the first movie. Yes, he was abused. Yes, he is apparently mentally ill. But mentally ill people generally are *not* homicidal. Fleck doesn't just end up killing his mother or the subway harassers. He ends up killing Murray Franklin, who was a bit of a dick, but didn't really do anything to him, comparatively. You can kind of compare this to Falling Down, the Michael Douglas movie. The guy gets shat upon, but it's not a license to kill. The other reason I think people didn't like the movie is that they didn't like the fact that this wasn't the real Joker. But that was obvious from the first movie. They had Joker interacting witha pre-teen Bruce Wayne, which would make Fleck far older than the Joker who was Batman's nemesis.
