I'm so glad you mentioned the influence of ''The King of Comedy" on the first movie. I enjoyed ''Joker'' just fine, but was surprised how plagiaristic it was of Scorcese's film. It just annoyed me after a while, from the era it's set in; the tone; the style; the plot, even bringing in Robert de Niro for a significant role. I mean, there's paying homage to something great, but there's also just copying something great to the point of absurdity. Phillips got lucky the first time around, but this sequel proves he really has no good ideas of his own.

He seemed so full of himself during interviews leading up to the first movie. About the topics the movie was gonna tackle, straight up virtue signaling. In the end he made a pretty good movie but stole pretty much every idea in the film. This is what he puts out when he wants to do his own thing.

this movie has the same exact vibe as Matrix 4, its like the studio wanted to make money and they pushed the writer/director to make a sequel(in the case of Matrix, the creator specifically said she didn't want to make this movie) I literally remember back when Joker came out in 2019 and interviewers asked if its a trilogy and he said its a Stand alone movie and there's not gonna be Sequels

they knew they had nothing and they didn't want to do it. they literally shit out a "movie" for the studio because they were paid to and the studios demanded it. that was the point of this movie. to show objectively how detached from the art the studios (who's whole existence is to produce art) are. I actually liked Joker 2. The whole internal conflict between Arthur and the Joker was great and thought it was well explored. Much more depthful than the first movie. All the actors are on their A-game (including the supporting cast.) The direction is a big step up, and I actually liked the musical numbers. They let Arthur express himself more than if it was just implied. And the ending.... I LOVED the ending

I think it's basically the director saying, "You know this is the bad guy, right? He's not a charismatic anarchist. He's a nut. He's not even the real Joker.". I like the idea of that. It's just a shame it wasn't executed well.
