#joker #jokerfolieàdeux #moviereview Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix are back after 2019's Joker to bring us Joker: Folie à Deux! Does it live up to the success of the first film..? Enjoy!
That’s doesn’t mean that it makes for a good overall film. Comic books are comic books and films are films. Essentially take the character and make a good film with them like the first movie.
I have a feeling the creators were pressured to go out of their way to not appeal to the core fans of the first one, and it’s going to flop because of it.
I have mixed feelings about Joker Folie a Deux because, I don't think a movie like Joker deserves to have a sequel, moreover comparing Joker part 2 with La la land is like comparing David Lynch's movies with Quentin Tarantino's. So, it doesn't make any sense.
Why doesn't it deserve a sequel? First one made a billion dollars so they'd be stupid not to. Also I don't think anyone's seriously comparing it with La La Land, just tongue in cheek
@@spidercrash wtf what do you mean "look where it got them"? The movie is not even out yet. I'm just wondering why it doesn't deserve a sequel when it was clearly a huge cultural and financial hit
Remember the first film had musical parts in it as well. Like his dance after the train. I remember the director saying he always felt the Joker had music in him. So now maybe it's more of a thing since he's gone full Joker?
Of all the places they could have taken a sequel, this just seems… random. Like the studio demanded it or something. And I’m kind of annoyed with these villain spin off things going out of their way to avoid the hero that made them all popular. The first movie made sense to not have Batman yet, but this Joker never interacting with him at all just makes me question why this was even made. Their dynamic is such a huge part of what makes Joker so interesting
@@alonzoweaver7948 I agree but for most of those times the actual end product is safe and goes against their statement. I’m simply stating that the end product backs up Joaquin’s statement
Heads up mate, in your intro graphic you've got a typo. It says ENTERTAINTMENT. Unless we're talkin taint, I think ya might have a T that's not meant to be there.
Totally agree! I loved, loved, LOVED the first movie and I would've been happy with just that. But of course I HAD to see part 2! Stylistically it was gorgeous (like the first movie), but am I here for a musical, drama, or character development? Unless there's something after the credits, the ending did not surprise me.
I have seen the first movie at least 20 times, and i belive its awsome. In this second part, i would lie like Gaga if I ever watch it 4 times. Sooo I didn't really like how it ended and only left me with many questions
Him getting killed is ok for me and kinda poetic... But he rejecting the joker persona? that shit is character assesination! Fuck todd Philips man! What a cucked Ending.
As much as I liked “Joker 2019”, nothing about its story screamed “sequel” to me. Personally, I would’ve much preferred it if the “Joker” film franchise was an anthology series, with each film being its own, self-contained story focusing on its own origin/reimagining of The Joker, with Joker being played by a different actor in each film.
I like how the first one can technically spin off stories for us to create. Like we can theorize what was real and what wasn’t. It was a film that should only be one and it would make a dent in film history. But noooo the studio was like “hey great job…..so we want money”

They should’ve done the joker vs fake joker plot. Where there’s a fake joker on the street using and stealing the joker(Arthur) name. Willam Defoe is the fake joker vs Joaquin
I think the musical elements were bold and daring. At first I wasn’t sure in the beginning, but for me they were really taking big risks and I feel I respect that and had a lot of fun with most of these singing sequences, some I was completely blown away by them. The acting by Phoenix is phenomenal ! All the cast is great. People are going to hate this but I had a lot more fun with this one over the first. Just my opinion. I loved the movie overall.
@@ezm311 movie had no direction, horrible ending. Had people in my theater leave 15 minutes before the movie ended. However, the acting was great and the movie would have been great if James Cameron would’ve directed it lol
The movie was really bad. I don't know how anyone who is a fan of Batman can like this movie. It completely rejects what the Joker is suppose to be. It's not even about Arthur becoming the joker. It's about him rejecting being the joker. What was the point of all of it? It's not at all related to Batman. It's people with names from the batman universe but it doesn't follow at all what the universe is suppose to become. At least with the first movie you could view it as an origin story but this isn't an origin story, it's an ending to a story that never even began. Absolute trash.
@@StevenE-l9y never felt more disappointed leaving a theater in a while, this movie shouldn’t have been made. And I felt like I was dragging along the movie because there was no exciting plot points nor any climactic progression.
They had the chance to make one of the best villain arcs in cinematic history and instead they made musical numbers for lady gaga cause DEI , Nah I'm watching the penguin instead.
I’m sorry, but I think this movie will be attacked because of what happens in the end. I love Lady Gaga & her Lee character is amazing, but for what she did & how it all ends we all know is going to make all the male 🧌 s who hate females winning are going to tear this movie apart. I saw this at the the festival & I’m sorry, but the chatter after the movie was just WTF did they just do after the 1st movie was an Oscar winning, billion dollar club movie, winner, but what they do to “Joker” is just unforgivable & what Lee gets to walk away from is just not adding up. Sorry, tried not to spoil it, but spoilers have been out for months now sadly, & sadly they’re all correct. Putting the bomb in the trailer was also a hugely bad idea, bc I just backs up what people are saying. Again, love Lee & Lady Gaga, but she’s not even in the movie enough to warrant the outcome she alone gets.
Sorry mate, in a huge DC fan and I think you and your son will walk out disappointed. It's very very bad. I actually ended up enjoying the music than the actual movie . It's that bad
Trailer just felt whiny, like all the worst moments of the first film summed up with some A Star Is Born thrown in. I'm going back for another round of Alien Romulus instead.
I want to see it of course but I kinda wish it didn’t exist. Just because the first was so unexpectedly good. I just hope it takes nothing away from the first. I really really liked the unanswered things like Zazies character being dead or a live and the Wayne thing.
Unfortunately the movie was made it seems with no narrative purpose. Sort of aimless the cinematography was the best point but everything else seems hallow and empty.. sometimes even boring. The first trailer really showed the energy it could of had but a courtroom drama rehashing the first movie was not interesting and seemed pointless from a sequel story standpoint. Also this movie costing 200 million dollars in lunacy.
Imagine in all those batman characters never existed and it was a real asylum and all those characters were made up in every prisoners mind and Bruce Wayne is just the main boss lol
I completely respect the desire to try something new and offer audiences a fresh experience rather than just rehashing the original. Whether or not the new direction resonated with everyone, I have immense respect for how boldly the creative team approached taking it in a new direction and not just “playing it safe” as it’s not something we see a lot.
The problem with the movie is not that it tries something new. The problem is it completely rejects what the batman universe is suppose to become. It's a movie that uses names from the batman universe but has nothing at all to do with the universe. It's cheap BS. It uses the batman property for marketing purposes only. If you are going to use a popular property to tell a story you need to have some allegiance to that universe. To completely reject it is not commendable, it's a lie to get people to see a movie they probably wouldn't have seen otherwise.
@@User_6126 The joker is a character in the batman universe. You can't completely separate the two and that's one problem with this movie. If you do that then you have a movie that's not related to the universe in any way except in name.
@@User_6126 At least the first film could have worked as a competent origin story to the joker in another Batman universe. This one throws that away. It's not an origin story about how he becomes the joker but rather a universe in which he doesn't become the joker at all. A universe in which there is no joker because he turns away from it.
I've seen it in pre-screening and I hated every bit of it. I don't think it's good at all. I was actually annoyed by the musical bits, but that's just me.
@@ezm311 I don't understand why you laugh, it's just a movie, not the second coming of Christ 😉 I neither love nor hate Lady Gaga, it just seems to me that the presence of such a famous face in the movie absorbs all the energy of the Joker character. I think it goes against the spirit of the first film. The real Arthur would have killed her, ("kill the rich", do you remember?) he wouldn't have started singing and dancing with her.
@@MasonGrant0704 why do u think that? I understand we all have our own opinions but margot is the queen of harley and she played her masterfully she is harley quinn so it's not enough for u to say she sucks tell me why
Havent seen this movie yet obviously. But, this isnt the real Joker or the real Harley Quinn. So I will be ok with this movie, just like I was ok with the first film.
I'm really sorry but I stopped watching at 4:37 as soon as you said you and your girlfriend were invited to the premier in Imax by Warner Bros. That tells me your review is going to be positive because you want more invites like this in the future. Your opinion cannot be trusted.
It wasn’t good at all.. unnecessary to have Harley Quinn .. didn’t do much.. felt like law and order.. and joker died at the end. Not supposed to happen
