Modern Hollywood never fails at destroying movies that never needed sequel or prequels

Of course it will bomb. No one who liked the first wanted a musical.

From the moment people found out the movie was gonna be a musical movie that's when they lost the audience... It'll be a total tragedy for the Joker to go from a billion dollar box office success from the first movie, then to have the sequel flop terribly...

Don’t know how it will do, but I’m not interested. For one thing, Joker didn’t need a sequel. For another I hate musicals. And lastly, Lady Gaga couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag. I have better things to do with my free time.

A lot of people went into the first film expecting something more traditionally comic-booky and weren't really that interested in what they actually got so won't be returning for a sequel. Many people like myself who do like the first film for what it is aren't interested in it becoming another Harley Quinn vessel and can't stand musicals so won't be going to see it. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it is no where near as successful as the first.

Joker as a standalone movie was ok. We knew from The Batman that this iteration of Joker would not meet Batman! I feel there was absolutely no need for a sequel.

Dragging Sid and Nancy out of the graves and casting them as bonnie and cylde but only unhinged clowns is a very bad theme.

I've seen less than 10 movies in cinema. Joker was one of them.

All of this stupid bickering back and forth over a movie they already know they F'd up. They gambled and took a serious BILLION DOLLAR, OSCAR AWARD WINNING MOVIE and screwed it up, chasing a market THAT DOESN'T EXIST. Then when it doesn't make a billion, they'll blame the critics and fans........including the fans who spent their time and money to see it. Then move onto the next flop..........Rinse n Repeat.

I was super excited when I heard about Joker 2 as I wanted to know more about Arthur, but all that disappeared when I heard it was a musical.

I really liked the first one, but I hate musicals. So it's a pass for me.

IMO there has never been a Joker as good as Heath Ledger's portrayal. It's just too bad that Tim Burton didn't use Nicholson to his full potential, that could've been truly disturbing, but Caesar Romero will always be classic though in his own right.

-Musical: Even if that is hyperbole, it is enough to scare off a large percentage. -Comic book movie, but not aimed at avid comic readers, not aimed at people who casual superhero films, and not aim at people watch popcorn flicks and shut their brains off. -Certain elements are aimed at edgelords that will say “being naive is cheering for Batman, maturing is realizing Joker is right.” And other elements are for people that can watch a sepia tone film about a guy that falls in love with an half eaten apple he found near a trash can. -People aren’t gonna hate-watch. People aren’t gonna watch it to fight wokeness. People aren’t going to show up to thank the director for listening to fans (á la Sonic). -It’s not fatigue or the economy or anything else. There is just no hype for this movie. No excitement. No mystery we are yearning to have revealed. No possible twist to excite us. You could literally say that it definitively shows us he is Bruce Wayne’s older brother, or biological father, we don’t care. -It’ll come and go. Maybe win a best sound or costume design globe/oscar/whatever.

The fact that it's a musical, and that it seems like it will focus more on Gaga/Harley than on the Joker, certainly gives me pause.

I went from avoiding the first film, thinking an origin story about a villain was a dumb idea (for the record I thought the same about the prequel Star Wars trilogy) to thinking the film was a work of art once I'd seen it. Then I heard they planned to make a sequel. 'Nooooooo!!!!!' I screamed, doing my best Anakin Skywalker impression. To me that's like making a sequel to The Graduate (1968), or Leonardo Da Vinci deciding to do a follow-up to the Mona Lisa. DON'T SEQUELISE PERFECTION! I don't know how many times I say that in a year these days, but it's a lot. Perhaps the low numbers reflect the level of esteem that the first film holds, and an overwhelming feeling that any sequel to it would cheapen the work. Perhaps many people are thinking like me. I have no intention of going to see this, you couldn't wrestle me into the theatre; I just love the first film so much and don't want to risk that love on the conceptual diluting one gets when you make a sequel to something.

I saw the first Joker movie and thought it was okay, not my kind of movie. I just don't really care to watch a Joker musical type movie and I doubt Lady Gaga will make a better Harley Quinn than Margot Robbie did in the first Suicide Squad movie. If the majority of the fans don't get what they want from this film it will surely flop.

They never learn. Complete creative freedom doesn’t always work. They had WW2, Birds of Prey and so on as examples. Sometimes studio intervention is okay.

When Joker trailer came out I remember a lot of people I know looking forward to seeing it and talking about it. I sincerely haven’t had one person I know even bring this Joker trailer up in conversation let alone be excited about it.

A lot of people are medically unable to watch musicals this is just spitting in their faces.

I don't want to watch a whole film of lady blah blah singing and dancing and being the main lead role and another harley is the real star. Musicals suck for me.

Sucked in , we want comic book accurate stories as much as possible not some bullshit Joker/Taxi driver artsy mashup. I don’t need my superhero movies to win Oscar’s. I want to be taken to another world for a couple of hours and blown away. Or a theme park ride as Scorcese calls it.

The first Joker film was nothing truly special it was a Sean Penn vehicle starring Joaquin Phoenix. It remind me too much of The Assassination of Richard Nixon that came out in 2004.

Just like how Man of Steel deserved a second film before adding Batman, a second Joker film didn’t need Harley. I don’t understand how so many people think Joker needs Harley to be interesting. Or fun.
