Skip since you like cherry-picking ststs heres another one for you.. Jokic this season has led in every advanced metric: VORP, PER, BPM, WS/48... Jokic was 1st in all of those stats and by a hefty lead. SGA was even 4th in some of them like VORP behind Luka and Giannis and 3rd in PER and BPM. One of the best ways to measure a players impact on a teams success is on/off metrics - points per 100 possessions. SGA added 10 points/ 100 possessions and was above every player in the NBA except for Jokic. Jokic added 19 points/ 100 possessions (nearly double Shai’s contribution to his teams success). Jokic clearly elevates his team unlike any other player.

Don’t punish Joker because we expect him to play great every game. He’s the only player, that if he doesn’t get a triple double, he had a bad night. That’s crazy. He’s a complete player and impacts the game with not only points, but rebounds and assists. No other player does that and does it at an elite level. Well deserved.

Russell Westbrook did that and only got 1 mvp. People hated his triple doubles but the W-L record for games he got triple double vs without they claimed was an overrated stat.

@@steveoshei1819 - I’m an OKC fan yet I love watching Jokic and Denver play - except when they play my team. If ya play straight up against him then he’s really a no-excuses, work hard kind of player. Luckily, we got the better of Denver (3-1) this year; I hope we get to play again in the playoffs because that would be a great series. I think there’s some truth to what Pierce says about the media influence, not just because he says it, but because I’ve heard others say very similar things.

Jokic 110% deserved it. He overtook Jordan as the most efficient player of all time (PER). Its not freaking close. The entire team revolves around him and he does everything at the highest efficiency. Not to mention 23 of those games were without 'all star' Murray.

@@HollaIfYaHemi392 you named two of the only stats of all stats SGA has the lead in. If you think only averaging more points and assists means you had a better year, thats crazy. Yes, the thunder is #1 but they literally have the same record as denver. So just because Denver lost to the Spurs at the end of the year, that automatically makes SGA the MVP. If the Thunder had way more wins than Denver I would give being #1 more weight. Thirdly, playoffs stats don't matter. All in all, Jokic deserved the award. The only reason there is even a debate is because we got used to Jokic's insane numbers so we act like averaging 26, 13, and 9 on damn near 60 percent shooting isn't groundbreaking

Anyone who watches Basketball can decipher from regular season and post season. It is a “regular season” MVP. Evaluate it on that. MVP is not a stat award. Stats can factor in the result. At the end of the day anyone who truly watches basketball without a bias opinion can see that clearly Joker is the most valuable player on a winning team. Shai is good, but he is not the key factor in why his team is good. Some can say the coach factors in just as much the way he has the team playing. As a Lakers fan. Joker is the MVP

SGA beat Denver 3-1, including a game winner. Took a worse , younger and less expirenced team to the first seed. Would have won potentially 60 games had Shai not gotten injured. He's a better defender and just MORE VALUABLE to his team, then Jokic is for the more veteran nuggets who beat the clippers WITHOUT Jokic or Murray this season. Regardless of the "stat stuffing". Jokic. 14-9-24. Just one assist shy away for another triple double in a playoff series. That's the number he's giving you night in night out during the season. That's why he's the MVP. MVP absolutelly deserved. Key is right, in upcoming years there will be fatigue with Jokic but there is 1 thing about Joker that only basketball experts talk. It is his advance statistics, his PER is of the charts because of his overall impact over game (points, rebounds, assists) and that is the reason why pools always put him among favorits + he is in champion team. Once you are marked as favorit you remain in the race till very end with good chance in wining.

Skip needs to get his facts straight. Joker was first in offensive win share with 12.0 and second in defensive win share with 5.1. He was first in combined win share with 17.0 The second place player for combined win share was Shai with 14.6. Based on advanced stats, Joker was far and away the best player.

I would agree with this if there was an actual noticeable lead. The Thunder and the nuggets have the same exact record. So basically all of the SGA voters are basically giving him the edge because Denver lost to San Antonio at the end of the year. Jokic has the clear advantage in stats. If the thunder won 60+ game to where they were the clear best team in the west, I would agree but OKC, Minnesota and Denver were all equally as good all year long.

it's not about politics, Jokic had a better year overall best player efficiency rating 30+ 4th year in a row. best player on the planet. Shai had an incredible year, but he faltered from his next level greatness in the last 10 games.. where Joker did not. ended up tying the regular season... It all goes back to Starbucks CEO Schultz selling the Seattle Supersonics (hope they can come back) to Oklahoma businessman Clay Bennett back in 2006 after failing to either renovate the old KeyArena or getting a brand new arena. Bennett, thus moved the Sonics in 2009, thus the hate for the Thunder plus OKC is a smaller media market so there's really no love throughout the league. Only Boston, NY, Philly, Miami, Chicago, LA, and GS gets the love because those are the largest media markets in the NBA as opposed to OKC, NO, Memphis, and Utah, smaller NBA markets.
